Hello. |
|||
Just a reminder about song sample length and resolution recommendations. |
|||
Our sample guidelines state that song samples should not exceed thirty seconds. Samples should be around 10 percent of total song length up to the maximum of thirty seconds. |
|||
Another thing to consider is the sample's resolution. They must be an Audacity setting of 0. I'm just stopping by to reiterate the instructions. |
|||
Quite a few of your audio contributions are ''full length'' and ''full resolution'' tracks. Please stop uploading these as they're fairly blatant in terms of stepping on the copyright holders' toes. Welcome!
Hello, Jcooper1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Jack Cooper (musician, composer, arranger), may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.
You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard. Thank you.
There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. Speedy deletion nomination of Jack Cooper (musician, composer, arranger)

A tag has been placed on Jack Cooper (musician, composer, arranger) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Empty Buffer (talk) 22:17, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 06:26, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you.
You really shouldn't be writing an article about yourself anyway, but since you insist on doing so you must leave the maintenance tags in place. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 17:43, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Please stop. Continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to may be considered vandalism. Further edits of this type may result in your being blocked from editing Wikipedia. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 18:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
You can't assert your own importance on Wikipedia
I've reverted some of your recent edits because they're just your own assertions of your own notability. In fact, nearly all of your edits, including creating an article about yourself, fall into this category. This is explicitly not allowed on Wikipedia - other editors will keep reverting them. You obviously have lots of knowledge to contribute to this project, but please do so in areas that don't constitute any conflict of interest. - Special-T (talk) 16:41, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Your point that less-valid instances of this same abuse exist in Wikipedia is not really valid. They still shouldn't be there, they just haven't been removed or cleaned up yet (this is mentioned in a policy document somewhere...). Read the policies in WP:COI. The basic idea is that one's own contention that he/she is notable doesn't qualify as notability. There are times when editing in "close to home" subject areas is OK - your additions of recordings to an existing article on a record label would be fine. (if I mis-read that edit, my apologies, it's fine to restore it). But in general, stay away from editing or creating articles about yourself or your work, especially when those edits involve your contention that you or your work is notable. That's for others to decide. - Special-T (talk) 19:51, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
I assume the post to my talk page from an IP address was from you. You are missing the point in several regards. 1- it is not OK to assert your own importance. You keep trying to skirt this core issue. Please, please, please, read the policy guideline link above and any other associated policy documents. 2- I am not some "editor" editing contributions from "civilians" like yourself. I'm an editor, you're an editor. We all play by the rules, or we can't complain when our edits get reverted. 3- There's a lot of stuff that doesn't belong in WP, especially in the music/performer articles - bands/musicians that are not very notable, inflated importance given to works because the composer inserts them into the repertoire lists, etc. That doesn't make it OK. That stuff shouldn't be there either. - Special-T (talk) 21:14, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm not going to edit-war, but I reverted your last edit, since, again, it's in clear violation of WP:COI. - Special-T (talk) 23:29, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- The best way to show that something is encyclopedic is to cite to WP:Reliable sources that state facts that show that the information is important. For example, an album of Cole Porter songs that is a platinum seller can be mentioned in the Cole Porter article, as long as there is a WP:CITE to an article or review that confirms that it was a platinum seller. If you can show that you are discussing a major recording, comparable to the recordings by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, then it should be mentioned. See also WP:MUS. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:41, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
There's some important, core Wikipedia stuff that you're mistaken about: 1- I have no more "clout" as an editor than anyone else, including you. Did I make some bad edits/reversions? It wouldn't be the first time. Please re-do or fix them. 2- Your assertion of your own notability and your self-promotion are frowned upon at best, and grounds for being blocked at worst. 3- The fact that there are numerous violations of WP:COI, WP:OR, WP:POV, and WP:NOT doesn't make it OK for you to violate those policies. Clean up the other bad stuff if you find it. Don't add more. 4- None of this is my opinion, it's Wikipedia policy contained in the above documents and many others.
So please, keep editing - you obviously know a lot about many areas of music. But please also read the policy documents.

License tagging for File:ALBUM COVER, Big Band Reflections of Cole Porter.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:ALBUM COVER, Big Band Reflections of Cole Porter.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Cuban_Fire!_cover.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Cuban_Fire!_cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 04:15, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Key Palmer, trumpet photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Key Palmer, trumpet photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 00:09, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Chiswick Chap (talk) 17:08, 1 November 2011 (UTC)File:Dekajaz_CD_cover.jpg
I have tagged File:Dekajaz_CD_cover.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Otherwise, it will be deleted in seven days. Melesse (talk) 02:37, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
So what you are saying is that the image of a CD cover really needs to be the VERY last thing one adds before the page goes live? Right? I did included it in my work page if you look at that.
Thanks,

Please look at this article and possible take off tags. I have done EXTENSIVE work on this article due to the fact it had many problems and I know the subject matter (person) far better than the author did (to be honest here). Honestly, I owe this to Dave in a way; a labor of love so to speak. He was a world class person and instrumentalist and deserves a great deal more respect than the author had done. I was glad I found this and hopefully fixed it. Please help edit, proofread, and give final approval.

Non-free rationale for File:D Edwards alto II.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:D Edwards alto II.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Problems with upload of File:03 Out Of The Bluffs.ogg
Thanks for uploading File:03 Out Of The Bluffs.ogg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is.
