Spytty the Dog is a fictional dog, the official mascot of Newport County Association Football Club.
His name is a play on Spit the dog, the puppet popularised by Bob Carolgees on the 1970s British children's television show Tiswas and the location of Newport Stadium — Spytty Park.
Despite Newport County being sponsored by Acorn Recruitment, Spytty's shirt has been sponsored by other companies, initially by the South Wales Argus and from the 2009–10 season by Budget Vets. Spytty's squad number is K9.
Spytty was introduced in the 1999–2000 season and for the first ten years was played by just one person.[1]
He is a regular participant in the Mascot Grand National with his highest placing being 4th in 2005,[2] and the Welsh National Mascot Derby with a win coming in 2002.[3]
