Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! Herocore

I noticed you started an afd for Hero Core. You might want to include Iji with it, as both were made by the same person (who's article has already been deleted, apparently). -WarthogDemon 21:13, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to do that, but Hero Core has seen some improvement since you nominated it, and seems* to be headed for a Keep. decltype (talk) 21:27, 11 June 2010 (UTC) *Of course, my view of the consensus may be somewhat slanted.[reply]
Yes, I agree decltype. Seems I was wrong :(. I have no reason to believe Iji doesn't meet the guidelines for inclusion. I nominate only by a case-by-case basis. Airplaneman 01:31, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I actually didn't even notice that it seems that one article seems to be here to stay. If I had, I wouldn't have brought this up. My bad. -WarthogDemon 01:44, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK - it's not final until it is final, anyway :) Airplaneman 02:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would "delete because I'm butthurt after looking like an idiot" be a valid argument? Nah I'm just kiddin. :P :) -WarthogDemon 02:24, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
lol - to be honest, your note seemed like a valid proposal to me. And I think that this is the first time I have spoken to you, so, nice to meet you! Airplaneman 02:28, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Hello Airplaneman, Thank you so much for the welcome message and the chocolate chip cookies! They're definitely one of my favourite kinds. I really appreciate you offering to help in wikipedia. I'm pretty sure I'll need help at some point soon too :-)

If I knew how, I'd for sure send you a glass of cold milk or perhaps, post cookies, a glass of cold beer?

Anyways, I really appreciate the welcome, and I love that plane photo! Does this mean I should look for a picture for my profile? Yikes! More wikipedia stuff to learn. How bout that huh?

Bye for now.

Hello! Thanks for dropping by :). There are directions for how to give a cookie at Template:Cookie, for example. As for the plane photo, I think it's a unicode symbol - a fellow editor found it for me and I found it nice. That's why I have it in my signature as well as on my user page (our word for profile here). Read the userpage link for more info (you may also want to visit the userpage design center). User pages are not required, though, and editing articles is encouraged over designing personal pages. This is to minimize social networking, which is frowned upon (conversations related to Wikipedia, on the other hand, are encouraged). You can sign your username with the time of your edit by typing ~~~~. When saving, Wikipedia will convert it to your signature. It was my pleasure to welcome you - we can always do with more contributors ;). Happy editing, Airplaneman 01:28, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:AlexNewArtBot - New Article Bot

Hi, I have made a new feed for the New Article bot. The bot reads all the new articles for a day and puts suspected appleinc-related articles into User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincSearchResult, the articles are suppose to be manually put into the portal page and/or removed if irrelevant. Or whatever you want to do with them.

The list of rules are in User:AlexNewArtBot/appleinc, there is also the log on the User:AlexNewArtBot/appleincLog explaining the rules that sent an article to the search results (the log is cleared every day, so try to look into the history of the log). Please contact me if you are interested in the fine tuning of the rules

That is all. Any suggestions are welcome. mono

User page help?

I can't think of any clever ideas anymore for my "new" user page... any suggestions? (actually feel free to play with that copy of the user page, since the general community won't see it). Brambleclawx 22:57, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I'd downsize it, removing more personal stuff like what's going on in your life (which affects your activity levels and is therefore related to Wikipedia, but still…) and your favorite songs (or move it to a subpage). I'll tweak it as well I guess :) Airplaneman 23:38, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

documentary evidence

monosock 01:09, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr Airplaneman,

Two or three days ago I sent you a lot of photos taken by me offering evidence and sources about Andreas Savvides. I also begged you warmly to write his biography, since I am not expert in writing biographies. We see so many biofraphies of persons in Wikipedia who in fact are not so notable. Why then not to write the biography of a person with so many talents?

I sent you the photos though "photosubmission@wikimedia.org" because I don't know any other way to send them. I got extremely tired in gathering all that evidence. Have they given them to you?

Meanwhile,I'd like to help by translating into English anything you want to (even medical vocabulary). Please don't hesitate to ask my help. Just send the document you want me to translate, to my e-mail address: "chrdemosthenous (at) cytanet (dot) com (dot) cy".I can translate from Greek into English anything regardless of the kind of contents.

Dear Airplaneman, where are you going to pass your holidays this summer? My plane has landed at your "talk page airport". Are you ready for a flight with it?

Your's sincerely, Christakis DemosthenousCHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 19:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mr. Demosthenous. I've tweaked the code on your email so spam bots don't pick it up. I think you sent the email to Wikipedia, not me, as indicated in your post (photosubmission@wikimedia.org is not my email address). You may directly upload the picture to Wikipedia if it is free (make sure it passess this policy. See WP:IMAGE for a guide and related pages. As long as you do that, it should be OK.
It pains me to say I tagged the biography you submitted on Andreas Savvides because, as the note says on your talk page, it did not have references, something required for biographies on Wikipedia as a buffer against false and potentially libelous material. I do not find pleasure in asking administrators to delete somebody's hard work (on the other hand, I relish the chance to annihilate vandalism!) Someone else then tagged the page as being a recreation of something deleted from a discussion, in this case, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/THE HISTORY OF THE CYPRUS OLYMPIC COMMITTEE. I think that Andreas Savvides was a major part of the article. See this as well. Now, on to how you may be able to create this article, once and for all!
I am very grateful for this encyclopedia that you and other users, especially new users, come and give their valuable time to enrich the knowledge of others. That being said, not everyone may have an article on the encyclopedia. They must be notable first. I think this guy is notable enough, so that is one passed. You need to make a claim of notability without making the article sound like an ad or a resume. Also, sources have to be reliable and verified. It'd be awesome if you can translate any Greek sources you have found that meet these criteria (I neither have the time nor the motivation to do research myself right now—I'm reviewing an article for good article status and am otherwise generally busy in real life). I'd be more than glad to help you write it: you or I can ask an administator to un-delete Andreas Haralambous Savvides to User talk:CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS/Andreas Haralambous Savvides where it will be out of harm's way. Regards, Airplaneman 21:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Airplaneman,
Last night I landed at "Andreas Savvides" airport in the country of "Facebook". I saw some interesting profile, and also about 80 photos of him from his arthletic life. Please come to "Facebook", and look for "Andreas Savvides". Tell me if we can use some information from there.
Note: The word "air" comes from the Greek word αέρας (aeras)= wind. "air + plane" in Greek means "something which is moving in the air".
Yours sincerely,
CHRISTAKIS DEMOSTHENOUS (talk) 13:24, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Charls Andre/Andreas Savvides and User:EGLI ANDREOU/ANDREAS SAVVIDES - THE HERCULES OF CYPRUS might help shed some light on this... Christikis: if the information is not published in independent reliable sources then we cannot use it; also, there are guidelines for notability that help us determine whether an article should be created or not. WP:V, WP:RS and WP:IS explain sourcing, WP:N and WP:BIO explain notability (ignore my shorthand and click the links) --Jubileeclipman 13:49, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mac FAR

One of the FAR people posted on my talk page wondering what's up with the delist nom. I posted back and said we'll get our act together in the next few days. Which means {{cite mac}}. Is there anything you want to add to the template? If not, we need to go ahead and use it. (We can copy over a section into a sandbox and test it there first.) It's much easier to save an article in FAR than to promote it in FAC. So are you on board? </airplane pun> HereToHelp (talk to me) 04:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think anything needs to be added; I've already implemented it in MacBook Air, anyways. Am I ready for takeoff? Yes! Up we go! Airplaneman 04:34, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thank you very much for your great assistance on that Wikiquette. I have to rigorously use discipline in keeping Wikipedia at arms length or I actually fret for 20 to 40 minutes as I try to fall asleep. Given my real-life responsibilities, fretting over battles on the Internet is A) easy to find oneself doing, and B) that is an indicator that something isn’t *right*. Getting “down in the trenches” with someone like OnePt618 just isn’t for me.

First off, he was 180° incorrect when he wrote “Your preference for HTML headers is actually frowned upon; according to H:HTML”. In fact, H:HTML actually says “however there are some situations in which the HTML alternative is useful” and it lists <h1> - <h6> as examples of permissible HTML markup that can be used.

Then he accused me of WP:OWNERSHIP, and ignored that I wrote that I normally used regular wiki-style header markup by writing “your preference for using HTML”, and accused me of trying to prevent others from editing articles, and totally ignored my reasoning for why I was using the HTML in that unique circumstance, and went back and reverted my edit, and then concluded with one of those cop-like “Have a nice day” when they hand you a speeding ticket.

I simply don’t believe he is in any way a “newbie”, nor do I have a flying clue what he meant when he wrote that he had 20 edits under his belt. Rather than get myself wound further around the axle—and in deeper hot water in a venue where insincere wikipleasantries acting as a facade for mean spiritedness is very often a successful ploy (“Gosh, I suggest you fuck yourself, pretty please”)—I disengaged. My instinct was to give him more plain-speak, where I would say what was actually on my mind:

Better to let him vent and not feed the fire. I deeply appreciate your efforts to smooth things over. Greg L (talk) 21:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was glad I could help and am glad it was resolved peacefully. Best, Airplaneman 00:50, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GA question

Hi Airplaneman! I see that you review articles for GA class so I guess you could help me out a bit. I'm trying to get Ranger's Apprentice cleaned up and maybe even to GA class. I found a source from the actual publishing company with a lot of reviews. Would these qualify as reliable source? Thanks! Derild4921 13:06, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I wouldn't use them (yes, I looked at it ). Since it is from the publisher, they will only put positive reviews on their flyer. You need to access reliable third party sources. Since many good reviews are subscription-based (not all, though) you may want to try sites like http://www.accessmylibrary.com/ or something to get reliable, unbiased reviews. Airplaneman 23:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's what I thought too. Reviews are so hard to find! It took forever for me to find one review for The Glitch in Sleep until I found the accessmylibrary site. That makes reviews easier to find if they actually exists. Thanks anyways! Derild4921 00:02, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
