Hi Scorp. Wow, it's been so long since I used my account I've forgotten all the code. |
|||
As you probably know I've gone in a different direction. I moved away from Wikipedia after I found other ways to express my writing skills. I probably won't return as a dedicated editor, and I most likely won't be trying for any more GAs. Glad to see you guys are still getting there. :D |

Thanks for the barnstar, and good luck for the future. Tell Gran2 and those other guys I said hi/bye. |

Revision as of 08:58, 12 June 2010
The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:23, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Homer Defined
The article Homer Defined, which you nominated as a Good Article, is undergoing review. The article does not seem to meet the requirements for a good article. It has been put on hold for a week; if these issues are addressed satisfactorily within that period the article will be promoted to GA, otherwise it will be failed. Lampman (talk) 04:10, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- One one hand I felt I couldn't condone the approach certain editors were taking to fair use images, but on the other hand I realised I couldn't fail it over this issue. That's why I put it up for a second opinion, and the matter seems to have been resolved now. At least I managed to give it a bit of a copy-edit, so my review wasn't a complete waste of time. Good luck with further articles! Lampman (talk) 23:52, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Request
Hey there, when you get the chance can you take a second look at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Olympic women's ice hockey players for the United States/archive1 and check that your concerns have been resolved? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 21:30, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Also, not sure if you noticed Felipe Menegaz's comment at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/2010 Winter Olympics medal table/archive1. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing; just a note that Resolute responded to you at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of NHL players with 50-goal seasons/archive1. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. So should I assume that you don't intend to add a medal map per Felipe's suggestion (just to clarify)? Dabomb87 (talk) 21:55, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing: can you take a look at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Olympic medalists in luge/archive1? You're a pro at bringing those lists up to FL standard, so if there is anything that needs to be fixed, you'd probably recognize it. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 19:13, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. So should I assume that you don't intend to add a medal map per Felipe's suggestion (just to clarify)? Dabomb87 (talk) 21:55, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
I've promoted the article. Thanks for your patience. J Milburn (talk) 12:55, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I left some stuff for you. Theleftorium 14:40, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Good luck arguing with that guy about the images. He is apparently on an anti-non-free image campaign. He also made similar arguments at my current FAC before opposing claiming the single non-free image, the book's cover, failed NFCC and therefore the FA criteria. He's done this on half a dozen other FAs so far, and no matter how you try to reason with him, he still turns around an opposes. On the good side, it seems like he is also mostly ignored by other reviewers and by the delegates because his arguments really are badly made and seem to reflect a complete misunderstanding of the entire non-free policy. 14:20, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Blood Feud (The Simpsons) revert
Hi. You recently reverted my edit to the Blood Feud (The Simpsons) article with no explanation. If you looked at my edit, you'd see that I converted a hard to read, disjointed paragraph into a number of bullet points. I see no reason why you would object to that. -Roger (talk) 04:56, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- You've again reverted my edit with no explanation. Please at least acknowledge my original comment before doing so again. Thanks. -Roger (talk) 15:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the barnstar! You're a great help to the project too!

Greatest 500 Albums
Hello. I'm Moisejp and I'm part of the WikiProject Bob Dylan. How are you doing? The WikiProject Dylan is currently working on trying to bring The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan to Feature Article status. As you may know, this album appeared on the Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Albums of All Time list. We used the Rolling Stone website to cite the album's ranking, but lo and behold, Rolling Stone appears to have recently removed the list from its archives, and it cannot be accessed with the Internet Wayback Machine either. I was thinking of citing the published book or magazine versions of the list. Some of the bibliographical information I can easily find online, but other info, such as the page number, I can't. I noticed you have done a fair amount of contributing to The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. I was wondering whether you might possibly own a book or magazine copy of the list, or know another editor who does. Then I could hopefully track down all the necessary bibliographical info. Please let me know if you know anything, thanks! Moisejp (talk) 11:24, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks so much!! You've been a big help! Moisejp (talk) 21:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Please discuss the links with me on the talk page
Let's not continue reverting at List of Nobel laureates in Literature. I've started a discussion here. [1] Regards, JohnWBarber (talk) 02:52, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
WikiCup 2010 April newsletter

Round two is over, and we are down to our final 32. For anyone interested in the final standings (though not arranged by group) this page has been compiled. Congratulations to Hunter Kahn (submissions), our clear overall round winner, and to
ThinkBlue (submissions) and
Arsenikk (submissions), who were solidly second and third respectively. There were a good number of high scorers this round- competition was certainly tough! Round three begins tomorrow, but anything promoted after the end of round two is eligible for points. 16 contestants (eight pool leaders and eight wildcards) will progress to round four in two months- things are really starting to get competitive. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Judge iMatthew has retired from Wikipedia, and we wish him the best. The competition has been ticking over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. A special thank you goes to participants Stone (submissions) and
White Shadows (submissions) for their help in preparing for round three. Good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn, Fox and The ed17 17:38, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter message
It has recently been brought to the attention of WP:PW that the newsletter is being to delivered to several users who have not been actively editing for several months. As a result, their talk pages have become increasingly large, unmanageable and slow to load due to a lack of archiving.
In response, this message is being sent to all editors listed in Category:WikiProject Professional wrestling participants to say that anyone who does not list their name at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active before May 16 will be automatically listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, and will no longer receive the newsletter or any notification of it. If you are added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, please feel free to remove your name if you desire.
If you wish to continue receiving the newsletter as normal, please add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active. If you simply wish to receive notification of a new issue, but not have the full newsletter delivered to your talk page, please add your name to the notification only list.
If you have any queries please contact me at my talk page or leave a message at WT:PW. Thank you for your co-operation. ♥Nici♥Vampire♥Heart♥ 00:36, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: Lisa
No problem, sometimes I miss comments that an editor made, particularly if it was only one time and they never followed up. As for Lisa, I feel like there could be more about her overall character: she's the middle child, more of her activism (she lived in a tree to prevent its destruction, that one comes to mind), she was part of MENSA.... come to think of it, a lot of that is redundant with what you have in "Personality", so that section probably doesn't need much (if any) more. I think more pressing are details on the Yeardly Smith audition (which is important to Lisa Simpson as an encyclopedia article), and the negative reception (which is how the real world looks at her). Let me know when/if you nom it again. --Hurricanehink (talk) 02:54, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, since I reviewed yours, I was wondering if you could review an FAC of mine - Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Cyclone Gonu/archive1. Thanks if you get the chance! Hurricanehink (talk) 17:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yea, that audition stuff is better, how it's a little clearer. Good luck w/ the negative reception, tho. --Hurricanehink (talk) 23:09, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Go Leafs / National Parks
Hey Scorpion, Radiowallah here. Sorry not to use the Sandbox for National Parks list. New to this. I'm going to construct the table with as many photos as I can find and reinsert it complete. If you still think it doesn't work, no doubt you will want to revert it. I think there's much to be gained with the photos as part of the table. Maybe it's premature for a Descriptions column. But see what you think. Anyway, as we're both Leafs fans, surely we can agree... Radiowallah (talk) 23:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Radiowallah

Articles for deletion nomination of Rock the Park
I have nominated Rock the Park, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rock the Park. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

What's the point
... in reverting the "sortable" option from the coaches section? What harm does it do? "As far as you know" there won't be any new coaches anytime soon. How far do you know? Have you done any research? LarRan (talk) 20:03, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did do some research. I looked at the coaches of this year's final teams. Joel Quenneville and Peter Laviolette have never won Olympic gold medals. As far as I know, there aren't any Olympic Games or World Championships coming up any time soon (I could be wrong, but these things tend to be spaced out).
- So considering that, I concluded that there won't be any new coach members any time soon, so there's no need to make a table of one sortable. Simple enough. -- Scorpion0422 20:08, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- My reasons were (1) uniformity, (2) future use (you never know...). But whatever. LarRan (talk) 20:13, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Re: Phil image
I'm not really sure, I did mention other, more recent images, but the implication was that this was the only useable one he had. Not that I'm complaining. I'll probably mail him again in a few months to see how the star campaign is going (apparently the Canadian Walk of Fame attempt failed, so they're trying for the Hollywood walk before they attempt it again) so I’ll ask if he has others. It's a really shame nobody close to the show is reachable though (apart from Bill of course). I've contacted Hank, Yeardley and Silverman on Twitter touting for images, but none of them responded. Gran2 20:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- He said Phil "came in third" and thus doesn't get on this year. I've no idea if that makes sense but you're the expert on the process. I'll probably message Josh at some point... Julie Kavner is now chief image priority. Gran2 20:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
WikiCup 2010 May newsletter

We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is Sasata (submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by
Hunter Kahn (submissions),
Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and
White Shadows (submissions) respectively.
Two of last year's final 8, Theleftorium (submissions) and
Scorpion0422 (submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to
White Shadows (submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! Proposing categories for deletion
Hi Scorpion0422. FYI, when proposing categories for deletion, you should add {{subst:cfd}} to the top of the category, not just {{cfd}}, as you did here. I have fixed that one for you. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 23:03, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Oops. I see you've been around a long time, so you probably already knew that and it was just an error. Sorry. DH85868993 (talk) 23:04, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Planet Simpson list
I reverted your edit, as noted above the list the order isn't in order of his favorite but by air date, if he said that a particular episode was his favorite then of course that information should be added and sourced to a page but it's no reason to destroy the entire list. I copied the list order from page 70 of the book by the way in case you want to check my sourcing. I'll add the page to my watchlist and will happily discuss any changes on the talk page if you would like. Cat-five - talk 17:28, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- I added the information about his favorite episode above the list, conveniently it was on the same page which made sourcing easy and I hope that it works for you in trying to get that information out while still maintaining the list. Cat-five - talk 17:40, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

FLC review urgent
Hi! Since you are familiar with reviewing Lists of National Treasures of Japan, I thought you could help out with the following... List of National Treasures of Japan (archaeological materials) is presently a featured list candidate and marked as Nominations urgently needing reviews which means that it is in danger of failing the nomination due to a lack of reviews. I'd be happy, if you could have a look at the list and leave comments, questions or suggestions at the nomination page. The criteria to be checked against are found here. Thanks. bamse (talk) 14:24, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Honourary Stars - Canada's Walk of Fame
Hi Scorpion. I had a question to ask you about the Canada's Walk of Fame article. I found an article on the web a couple of days ago, while checking out information on this year's honourees. It was an article about the director of the Walk of Fame surprising a radio reporter with her very own honourary star. I have not heard anything else about the previous honourees and do not know whether it should be added into either the main page or the list of all honourees as the other 6 have not. I'll leave it up to you to decide. Thanks.
