who decides what is 'extreme sport'?
Why do you think extreme sports came to be?
- Marketing. Extreme sports is just a name that sounds "cool" in advertisements and TV-programming lists. Tp 11:17, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
- There is a lot more to extreme sports than "just a name that sounds 'cool' in advertisements and TV-programming lists." Extreme sports are a whole different genre of sports and sometimes aren’t given the respect that they deserve. If the current trend continues, extreme sports will become more and more popular games. Look at snowboarding for example, it used to be just another extreme sport but in 2002 it was introduced in the Winer Olympics. 21:46, 23 May 2005
I think there is an issue here with formally constituted 'extreme' activities' groups and what the general public might regard as being an 'extreme' pastime/event/activity. Just like the term 'sport' itself; we can't limit discussion/pages to simply what has official bodies. horseback riding
I removed the following statement because it appears to be POV: Please Note: Horse Riding, Cross Country Riding, Show Jumping, Hunting and any other form of riding a horse is not an extreme sport. And should never ever been considered an extreme sport.
I wasn't aware that anyone was ever trying to consider horseback riding or anything similar as an extreme sport. The statement just appears to be too much of a violation of NPOV (though there's still a little bit of POV here and there in this article). --Elkman 20:56, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
