The video is set during World War II. The "Band" plays young soldiers, scheduled to participate in the D-Day Invasion. It starts out at a wartime dance where the band is performing as members of the armed services, for other service men, perhaps a USO event. Soldiers during the dance are behaving as if it were some peace-time event. Interjected are scenes of the soldiers (mainly the band) at a bar, seemingly pondering their immediate future. Other flashes forward show scenes from the D-Day invasion (reminicent of the movie Saving Private Ryan) are abundant. The video effectively bundles the stages of denial, fear, and reality of the oft repeated line "never coming home".

Lyrics:

I never said I'd lie and wait forever,
If I died, we'd be together,
I can't always just forget her,
But she could try.

At the end of the world,
Or the last thing I see,
You are,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Could I? Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me,
And all the smiles that are ever ever...
Ever...

Get the feeling that you're never,
All alone and I remember now,
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies,
She dies.

At the end of the world,
Or the last thing I see,
You are,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Could I? should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me,
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Could I? Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me,
For all the ghosts that are never gonna catch me.

If I fall,
If I fall (down).

At the end of the world,
Or the last thing I see,
You are,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
And all the things that you never ever told me,
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me,
Never coming home,
Never coming home,
Could I? Should I?
And all the wounds that are ever gonna scar me,
For all the ghosts that are never gonna...

Video: In the Video for "Ghost of you" everyone at the USO show is wearing the 101st Airborne "Screamin' Eagles" patch, while in the invasion scene which is presumably D-Day, they were invading beaches, the 101st Airborne never invaded the beaches, they were used in parachuting behind enemy lines. The video also shows a German heavy machine gun ON the beaches with the Allied troops, this has never happened on either beaches the Americans landed on.

"Ghost of You" is a song by the alternative rock band My Chemical Romance, from their second album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The song deals with the fear of loss.

Music video

The video, for which frontman Gerard Way cut his hair short, was shot over two days in Malibu, California, and cost over $500,000 to make. Most of the video takes place at a wartime dance where the band is performing, but the rest depicts a D-Day scene, in which the band members play United States soldiers in fierce combat. (The uniforms bear 101st Airborne "Screamin' Eagles" patches; however, the 101st Airborne weren't involved in beach landings, but were (as their name suggests) parachuted behind enemy lines.)

The video takes an emotional turn when bassist Mikey Way is shot and killed by German fire, adding emphasis to the aspects of loss in the song. On September 9 2005, on its fourth day, it surprisingly rocketed up to number one on MTV's music-video countdown Total Request Live.
