Template:Future television episode Template:Big Brother housemates Big Brother 10 is the tenth season of the American reality television series Big Brother[1] that premiered July 13 2008 on the CBS television network.[2] The show airs three times a week; Sundays at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), and Wednesdays at 8 p.m (live ET/delayed PT). Julie Chen returned as host, and Allison Grodner, Rich Meehan and Scott Einziger are the executive producers. The show is produced by Endemol USA and Allison Grodner Productions.[2][3]

Only one season of Big Brother was intended to air during 2008 but due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike, CBS announced Big Brother 9 for the regular television season[4] and Big Brother 10 for the summer of 2008.[1]

Big Brother 10 has been noted as a "back to basics" season by both CBS and the production team. As part of the back to basics format live audiences returned for the live eviction shows and the HouseGuests are complete strangers.[3][5]

Pre-season

Casting for Big Brother 10 began on February 25, 2008.[6] Applications were due on April 25, 2008 and video tape submissions were due on April 4, 2008.[7][8] During May 2008 interviews for the 40 semi-finalists were held with the finalists being chosen on May 21, 2008.[7][8][9] Casting calls were held in various cities across the country including Los Angeles, CA, Charleston, SC, Louisville, KY, Minneapolis, MN, Pittsburgh, PA and Phoenix, AZ.

Big Brother 8 winner Dick Donato announced on House Calls that Big Brother 10 will feature a wider range of HouseGuests.[10] E4 will not air Big Brother 10 as they did with Big Brother 9 due to conflicts with the ninth edition of the British version.[11]

A live audience will also be present during the live eviction episodes on Wednesdays. This is the first time since Big Brother 1 that an audience will be present for the live weekly eviction shows.[12][5]

Broadcasts and Interactivity

On April 14, 2008 CBS announced Big Brother 10 would return on July 13 2008, with episodes airing on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.[2] During the season finale of Big Brother: After Dark on April 27, 2008 it was confirmed that the companion show would return for Big Brother 10.[13] House Calls: The Big Brother Talk Show will also return for Big Brother 10. CBS and AirPlay announced on July 9, 2008 the launch of the first interactive Big Brother game called “Big Brother Live TV Challenge”. The game will allow fans to compete against other fans in various live Internet and text messaging challenges tied to knowledge of past episodes and predictions of future events on the show and will begin on the premiere night. CBSMobile.com will continue to provide mobile wallpapers, breaking news text alerts and other features to subscribers. [14]

HouseGuests

CBS advertisements revealed that 13 HouseGuests would be entering the House,[15] the same number as Big Brother 4, the first time the number of HouseGuests has decreased.

Also, for the first time since Big Brother 3, all the HouseGuests are complete strangers. CBS touted the diversity of the Big Brother 10 HouseGuests in both age and background.[5][16] CBS released the names of the HouseGuests beginning with a series of advertisements that revealed seven HouseGuests; the remaining six were revealed when the official website launched on July 8, 2008.[17][18] Host Julie Chen formally announced the HouseGuests that day on The Early Show.[16]

Weekly summary

Week 1 Events

  • On Day 2, Jessie and Renny were nominated for eviction.[19]
  • On Day 7, Jessie used the Power of Veto to save himself from eviction; Jerry replaced him with Brian.[20]

  • PoV: "Sweet Dreams, Honey"; Players go outside to find a giant bed covered in different colored pillows, and a pool of honey. Players must tear open the pillows that match the color of their sleeping wear to find teddy bears. Then, must dive through the honey and deposit their teddy bears in jars. The first player to find all five bears and put them in their jars won the Power of Veto. With a close race, Jessie won the first Power of Veto.[20]

Competitions
  • HoH: "Majority Rules"; HouseGuests were asked to guess how the majority would respond to questions. After the final question, there was a four-way tie with Libra, Ollie, Jessie and Steven. With Jessie having the closest answer in a tie-breaker round, he became the second Head of Household.[21]
  • Food: "Stop Your Wining!"; HouseGuests go outside to find two elevated barrels and empty wine bottles for each team. Teams must fill the bottles up with wine that dripped from holes in the bottom of the barrels. Two players from the other team were in the barrels trying to plug the holes with corks provided by another player. After 5 minutes, team Chard-o-nay nay, consisting of Angie, Dan, Jessie, Michelle, Ollie and Steve, won food for the week. While the Pinot-wah-wah's were put on slop.[22]
  • PoV: "Big Brother DMV"; players have to guess common Big Brother phrases displayed on vanity license plates to earn points. When a player buzzes in, they have to declare the names of states that make up the phrase. Keesha and Michelle are left after being tied with ten points each. Keesha then buzzes in and incorrectly identifies the plates, making Michelle the Power of Veto winner.[23]
Exits
  • On Day 16, Steven was evicted by a unanimous 9-0 vote.
Week 3 Events
  • On Day 16, Keesha became the new Head of Household.
  • On Day 17, Angie and Jessie were nominated for eviction.
Competitions
  • HoH: "Alien Abduction"; in the days leading up to this competition, various items from around the house were "stolen". The first two HouseGuests were chosen at random, earlier in the day, to face off in the competition. The HouseGuests would be read a statement regarding the items that had been taken. They would then have to guess which room it was taken from, "Kitchen", "Spa", "Living Room", "Bathroom", or if the item was not taken from the house, "Not Stolen". The HouseGuest would buzz in to give their answer; if they were correct, they would win that faceoff, but if they were wrong, they would lose the faceoff and be eliminated from the competition. The winner would then choose the next two to faceoff. With only Keesha and Libra remaining, Keesha won the faceoff and became the new Head of Household.

Voting history

The voting table below records whom each HouseGuest voted to evict during his or her time in the House. The Head of Household ("HoH") and nominees are not allowed to vote, unless the vote is tied, in which case the Head of Household breaks the tie. Twists to the normal nominations process are noted, such as immunity from nomination and eviction (referred to as "exempt") and double evictions. The last seven evictees of the season are part of the Jury of Big Brother 10, who vote for the winner during the Finale.
