LBC radio show
Since January 2005, Iain Lee has hosted a live phone-in talk show on the London radio station LBC, 97.3 FM, going out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 10pm to 1am. His style is less political and more irreverent than other presenters on equally high-profile slots (such as Clive Bull with whom he has a running mock feud). He is known to have a penchant for Mr T and the Beach Boys, as well as various video games, and regularly refers to them all (and anything else he approves of) as "bruwyant".
There is currently a campaign to get Mr T to come onto Lee's radio show. Lee claims he will "hand in his notice (of resignation)" should he fail to have Mr T as a guest by Christmas, 2005. [1]
Lee was extending a tentative hand of friendship towards the eminent Igor from Montenegro, a regular caller to Iain's show, who resides in Redhill. However, this relationship was brought to a dramatic closure on 29 July 2005, when Igor was banned from the show for ringing up Iain's nemesis, Clive Bull. Some cynical listeners have suggested that Igor is actually a real-life friend of Iain's and that the whole thing is an elaborate hoax. Igor has now been allowed back on Iain's show for singing him an apology.
Iain has a number of correspondents, who are regular listeners, appointed by him to report on subjects such as 'business', 'Clive Bull', 'Daisy Sampson' and 'Wikipedia', all via 'The Platypus'. The opportunity to become a correspondent is a rare one and much valued by his fans. To celebrate his birthday, a small number of correspondents have been favoured with the even more prestigious title of "Uber-Correspondent". This hallowed status can only be dreamt of by most.
Lee's callers on his LBC phone-in are many and varied. Estimates suggest that he is the third most popular presenter on LBC. His callers vary from the middle-aged woman (often with a very sexy voice) to children who would not even be allowed to go to the cinema on their own. He also has a small group of lunatic callers, who may well "keep a knife down their sock", although he has not yet received a call from the legendary William from Sutton, who has been banned from Clive Bull's show.
In August 2005, Iain's show was added to the short list of LBC programmes which are podcast via the internet. As of August 27th, the show is the 22nd most popular on the iTunes podcast chart, beating Nick Ferrari, James O'Brien and Sandi Toksvig.
