Coagula (real name Kate Godwin, birth name Clark Godwin) is a former member of Doom Patrol. Kate was one of the first transsexual characters in comics, and remains one of the only transsexual super-heroines. She is a male-to-female transsexual. Kate gained her powers while working as a prostitute (although not directly referred to in the series it can be assumed Kate went broke after having her operation). One of her customers is Rebis, a radioactive hermaphrodite; after Kate has sex with him/her, she discovers she can coagulate liquids and dissolve solids at will. She first tried out for the Justice League, but was rejected by them. She met Doom Patrol, while battling a villian called the Codpiece. Early on Kate is identified as a lesbian, but as the series progressed it became clear she was bisexual. She began a romance with Cliff Steele. Years later it is revealed that Kate died in an explosion caused by Dorothy Spinner's mental breakdown.
