:::::::::Done the pair. Do they work? May I ask what platform, browser and skin you are using? (the skin is set in Preferences. Idle curiosity. --Tagishsimon (talk)

::::::::::Hopefully that now works. The Cologne skin does indeed demand wider tables. It would be better if the template sized to the unwrapped content in it, but I can't see an easy way to make it do that from the current starting point. And we've probably spent enough time on this matter now, yes? Thanks --Tagishsimon (talk)

lots of edits, not an admin

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 13:43, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

WA Cambridge

Please do not create tables that are wider than they need to be. What is the point? There is no good reason to, unless you can adduce one. --Tagishsimon (talk)

That's the spirit. I suspect you have copied a template which included a long string, and which justified a 23% width; and employed it where 23% is inappropriate by reason of the short strings ion the table. Tables conventionally do not have masses of white space to the right. Conventionally they are sized so that the borders are roughly equally spaced from the text. Think about it: what reason is there for masses of blank space to the right? If you can give me any good reason, I'll eat my hat. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Perhaps the problem is that it is being specified as a relative size. Try 120px - never wraps. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Yes, my bad. 120 did wrap. 150px does not. I am on a 1600.1280 monitor. I assure you that relative tables look very bad at this res. Fixed widths will work better, though I grant that I made Cambridge too narrow. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Ah. And I understand the bold problem. Give me a couple of minutes. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Finished. Does that work? --Tagishsimon (talk)
Thanks. Would you leave them as they are for a couple of minutes and I'll look some more. --Tagishsimon (talk)
Okay, I've upped each by 10px. I checked in IE and Mozilla before committing, and they worked for me at the smaller sizes. I can only think we are into the vagaries of which skin and which browser is being used. They certainly look a lot different between IE and Moz. I'd like to suggest that we continue toi increase the point width until they work for you. I continue to think that absolute is better than relative since, as I said, relative looks pants on wide monitors. Do they yet work for you? --Tagishsimon (talk)
