Welcome to my talk page!

  • To leave a new message, click . But first, please read below...
  • Due to my recent RFA, which passed 58/1/1, I am now an administrator. This means that I edit as I used to, however I have some more tools which allow me to protect and semi-protect pages, delete pages, block users, and have access to some more pages. I can also undo all of these actions. If you would like to contact me about any of these actions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page, or if you're blocked, or it's a private matter, I can also be contacted on email. Please keep all messages nice.
  • Be civil- I will remove messages that are vandalism.
  • I will respond to all messages on your talk page, unless it's a "group" conversation here.
  • PLEASE SIGN YOUR COMMENTS by putting ~~~~ after your post. I don't really want to be searching through the page history to find who posted the message!
  • And a special thanks to Riana for some codes I found on her talk page, and also thanks to Erich and Editor at Large, who helped with the codes on her page. I have put these codes onto my own to make them look colourful! :)

Unprotection request, please.

Can you unprotect Courtney Chetwynde? It has been protected for 1 month. Thank you. --Blake3522 03:30, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

my name is Nathalie Rees and I'm from the UK. I am doing a Masters in Library and Information Management and I'm currently writing my dissertation about Wikipedia. I am doing a case study on the Panic! at the Disco page, seeing how it gets edited and what changes occur. I would be incredibly grateful if you would let me do an email interview with you, as I would like to talk to people who contribute to the page. I am also interested in your clean-up project for the page.

The email interview won't be for another couple of weeks but I wanted to check if I had people to interview!!

It would be great to hear from you soon. My email address is nathalierees@hotmail.com

Thanks, Nathalie

Cattle anatomy

I'm having an ongoing disagreement with my boss: do bulls/steers have udders? I'm convinced that they don't (what on earth would they use them for??) but if I'm right why does Otis the cartoon bull have an udder? We need an objective expert opinion to sort this out - please help! Shanti07

Haha, hi, Shanti07.
In answer to your question (which is probably one of the best I've been asked on Wikipedia) no, neither bulls nor steers have udders, that's only cows.
So you are right, and I have no idea why Otis has an udder! You'd think they'd research.
I hope that helped you- CattleGirl talk 08:12, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Male mammals I am familiar with have breasts (including humans). They are not just vestigial organs: when there is a certain kind of pituitary tumor, or when hormones are injected, bulls produce milk [1]. So even though they might be the very epitome and watchwords of uselessness, a careful search should show that there are indeed 'tits on a bull,' if not udders. Deletion of Article name Sydney Consulting Corporation

Ok. So you are an Administrator. Why don't you go and look at the entry in the encyclopedia titled 'Management Consulting'. How is it precisely that a company like Accenture or Cap Gemini can get an article up (which is nothing more than a fact list about their company) so that their name can be mentioned under the entry (management consulting) but when I do it (with more meaning they they even attempted in the context of the article), the article is deleted. I considered the distinction I raised under types of consulting firm to be a real value add given the purile twaddle that was there before I arrived. I have introduced a really interesting, practical and important distinction to the types offered in the existing article. Just explain to me how they can be named and have supporting article and Sydney Consulting cannot. My point is that these larger firms all fit into the slot of 'report writers'. Where will you let someone tell the story about implementation and risk management? Is nobody worthy of a mention in that category. If you delete my reference to Sydney Consulting you should explain why the references to other firms are left to stand. Give it a try. I am exited to hear your reasoning cow girl.

Hi,
I've looked at the pages you've said. The reasons Accenture and Cap Gemini have an article is because they're one of the largest companies of their type in the world, as stated and referenced on their article page.
I did not delete the article because of the entries to the Management Consulting article, which may have been very valid, as you say. I deleted it because of the guidelines we have in place for these articles.
You see, whilst the company may meet the notability guidelines, the article didn't assert the notability of the subject. I have nothing against you or your company, and be assured that I am in no way biased.
If you can supply some external third party links to establish notability that conforms with these guidelines, then by all means the page can stay on Wikipedia.
I really hope that helped you. If you have more questions please feel to ask. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 10:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attack pages

Just a quick note, when deleting attack pages such as ShanE159, sometimes the default "content was 'blah blah blah'" summary is a slight WP:BLP problem. Doesn't seem like a big deal in this case, just something I happened to notice when deleting it a second time (somebody's persistent). In any case, nice to run into you, and keep up the good work. ;) – Luna Santin (talk) 08:23, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

How does adoption work? Im a little new with wiki...stuff.

Philippe Auguste 19:54, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, how are you?
With adoption, basically the 'adopter' would just help you with editing and things, and really help you learn the ropes on Wikipedia. You can ask questions, and work on things you're interested in... Really, it depends on what you want to do, and your adopter would help you with that.
Are you interested in adoption? I'd be happy to help you out, or if you need anything, please feel free to ask. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 07:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Iam interested in adoption, CattleGirl. But how do you start it? Thanks for your speedy reply. :)Philippe Auguste 19:20, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! You're welcome- as for starting adoption- that's good, right there! :) I'll add the adoption templates to both our user pages, and then just feel free to ask any questions you may have, or help when you need it. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 03:53, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Blake3522, how are you?
I'd nominate the list (I can't nominate just that section) however I don't believe it yet meets the featured list criteria just yet. Perhaps you can edit the article so that the tags at the top of the page are gone- such as trimming, and adding some sources- and then it can pass.
Any questions, you know where to find me :). Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:41, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Holmes.Sherlock

Can you adopt, if yes, put the adoption template on your userpage and my userpage, thanks, and you are so kind, are you a girl?Holmes.sherlock 09:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't you afford so many adoptee? Holmes.sherlock 04:08, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean can? I do have a lot of adoptees, but many are not active, or only ask a question once in a while, so I have plenty of time on my hands.
Have you thought more about what you'd like to work on on Wikipedia? There's plenty to do- you could work on building or improving articles that you are interested in, and join Wikiprojects of topics that you are also interested in. Or, maybe you'd like to do some more behind-the-scenes work, like have a look at deletion debates or backlogs. It's up to you :) CattleGirl talk 07:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your kind reply, can you train me to be an admin, tell me the basic skills to be one, my wish is to be an admin and to help wikipedia and be aa nice editor. Please train me to be one, please! Well, if not, I will choice another to be trianed. Anyway, I don't really understand why editors can 'adopt users, and why users need adoption, no need to reply on your talk page, just reply on 'my' talk page, thanks, I may give you a barnstar later, because you are so nice and kind to me, thanks! Cheers, Holmes.sherlock 13:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again :)
Definitely, I can show you the ins and outs of becoming an admin, but before you can have a hope of passing an RFA, you really need to know the ins and outs of editing. I suggest for a maximum chance of passing an RFA, you choose something to work on, and then do it. For instance, take me as an example. Whereas I am an administrator, this means I edit as per usual, however I have a few more tools to do the job- if you have a look at my contributions, you'll see that they're almost identical as they used to be, however now I have logs as well with tasks that I need administrator tools to do the job quicker. Adminship really isn't a big deal, but you do need trust within the community that you will use the tools in the best way possible- and the only way to gain such trust is to do a lot of work in the community.
If you're so interested in being an administrator, I suggest you familiarise yourself with the behind-the-scenes things on the wiki first. For instance, administrators close deletion debates at WP:AFD- so it's a good idea to read up on the deletion policy, and state your opinion on the discussions over there, as this shows that you're familiar with our deletion policies.
Another good thing you can do is, as administrators can also block users, is to become involved in the vandalism side of things. Because Wikipedia is so popular, many come along and add anything, and some of this, especially the nasty things added, needs to be reverted. If a user has all four levels of warnings (you can read more about warnings at WP:VANDALISM), then they are eligible to be put up on WP:AIV for an administrator to review the contributions and decide whether they warrant a block.
However, at the moment the most important thing to do is to get involved in the encyclopedia. You can do all of the things I've mentioned above, but remember that Wikipedia is first and foremost an encyclopedia, and everyone's main concern is to make sure it stays as reliable as possible, and expand it as much as possible. There's some Requests for Adminships that have not passed because the community is concerned about their lack of activity in the article mainspace.
As for adoption, I think it's a really good idea, as it means that a more experienced editor can help you along, and help you learn the ropes, as I am doing. So you have someone to respond to your questions.
I hope that helped, it was quite a long reply! As always, if you need any help, you know where to ask- CattleGirl talk 03:50, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rawiri Hinder

Why was Rawiri Hinder "Speedy Deleted" I was editing the page so the article could meet the criterion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by R hinder (talk • contribs) 10:30, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
I've had a look at the page mentioned, and the basis on which it was deleted was that it does not yet assert notability. Perhaps if you could provide me with some notable third party sources about this musician, I could review the request again? CattleGirl talk 03:34, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Management Consulting deletion

Dear cow girl, The overriding logic in your response was simply "size matters". Accenture and Cap Gemini are large so they have no problems getting third parties to write a lot of twaddle about what they do. A lot of this stuff is paid for directly or indirectly.

Do you know how the spin industry works? They buy academics, journalists and media and their marketing arms generate spin ad nauseum. Can I see the body of references that are relied upon by wikipedia to establish these gushing 'big guy' credentials for Accenture and Cap Gemini? Which articles exactly does the wikipedia rely upon to allow for example Accenture to enter the hallowed ground of 'notable'(for any other reason beyond size). Keep in mind the guidelines are specific about size NOT being and adequate reason per se. Where are the articles that assert a notable distinction relating to Accenture or Cap Gemini. Is all this notability about Accenture and Cap Gemini you assert simply anecdotal? Can you show that their inclusion is not simply because (a) they are large organisations and; (b) there are a LOT of articles relating to them? Please provide the references wikipedia relies upon to demonstrate their'notablility'. Surely the references relied upon are accessible to any editor of wikipedia? Remember, "encyplopedia content must be verifiable".

By the way, you are the first person I have heard describe themselves as 'objective' in about 25 years. If you have the time please explain what the word means. You must be quite young. Go and read "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" by Thomas Kuhn. You need a dose of relativism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sydneyconsulting (talk • contribs) 06:30, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
If you want to know why I deleted the page according to policy, please read WP:NOTABLE. I have, actually, googled the page name, with minimal ghits ([2])- not enough to establish notability at this time. However, if you could show me some more coverage of the company, then I could review your request again.
It isn't of my interest how Accenture and Cap Gemini have so many third party references- the fact that they do, and fit our notability guidelines are enough. It does not matter whether they are paid for or not.
The size of the company does not matter. The fact that the company has been covered by a third party indicates notability (but of course, that depends on the source), and generally, if the company is covered by multiple sources, then they probably would be larger. That's not of my concern, just the fact that they are covered, and fit into our notability policy.
The references of these companies are readily available, in the references section. And on terms of coverage, a google search [3] shows plenty of it. The content in these articles are verifiable, but the other articles are not my concern.
If you can supply me with some more references, please do so and I will review your request again. Or, if you want you can always bring it to deletion review.
I said "be assured that I am in no way biased" and I stick by that. I have no doubt that you know what objective means, as do I, quite obviously by my choice of words. I have nothing to do with your company, I have nothing for or against the other companies you mentioned. I have never heard of them before now. And as for a dose of relativism, I'm not the one comparing yours to the other companies. In this case, it is actually me who is reviewing just your company- not the other ones. I honestly have no interests in the other company, the issue here is Sydney Consulting. Whether it is bigger or smaller than the other companies, it doesn't matter, it still may or may not fit into our notability criteria- which in this case, it doesn't, but as I said before, you can try deletion review.
I'm only here to help, and I ask that your next reply be more civil than the previous one. Thankyou, CattleGirl talk 09:41, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Questions From Phil

CattleGirl, how do you upload pictures. Like say I had a real good one from Google Images and I waanted to make it available for wikipedia and, ahem, my gallery? what would I do? Also how can I get WikiAdvertisments? .P.S. Thanks for adpoting me! I can really use the help. :) Philippe Auguste 18:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again :)
Uploading pictures is pretty easy once you know how. Really, everything in a nutshell is at Wikipedia:Images. If you've found a good photo on google images, that's great, but before you upload it make sure it has the correct licensing for Wikipedia, otherwise it would be deleted- see here, and there's some links in there that explain it more thoroughly that you may want to have a look at.
As for uploading images...
Wikipedia:Uploading images explains it in detail. Basically once you're sure that the image you have has the correct licensing for the project, you're free to upload the file at Special:Upload.
Sorry for asking, but what are WikiAdvertisments? I've looked, and I can't seem to find them.
Goes to show, you find out something everyday- I'll go ask at the Help Desk. I hope that helped you- Cheers- CattleGirl talk 01:22, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes wikiad templates is what I mean. Sory for the mistake in context. Thanks.--Philippe Auguste 02:44, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NEEEEWWW QUESTION!! I'd like to be part of counter vandalism now but I dunno how? Also I am a WIKInew-comer welcomer now(Sp?), just if you cared to know.Philippe Auguste 04:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And anywho, say someone vandalizes my page by redirecting every thing or erases a bunch of stuff thats hard to get? I know the 3 step process like revert to last time page was in good condition.Philippe Auguste 20:03, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK RMS Titanic got COMPLETLY deleted. Now its my one of favorite articles and I think the who did it was User:Wildhartlivie. Please check RMS Titanic's history to make sure I did the right thing. Don't worry I was careful with my words that I wrote there. Thanks.Philippe Auguste 05:12, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry it's been a few days since I was last online :S. You seem to have been doing very well!
As for joining the counter vandalism unit- there's some userboxes at the bottom of the page which add you to the category of members in the unit- or if you'd prefer no userboxes, the category is also there for you to add to your userpage.
And that's really cool that you're welcoming new users- a huge tick in my book :) That's really good, well done.
If someone vandalises your page like that, then you should be able to revert it, either by moving it back, or going through the history and saving the page before the person put the redirect in. Just make sure that the edit wasn't legitamate first.
I had a look at RMS Titanic, it's there- it seems that there's problems with blanking, from looking at the page history, in the edit summaries. I'm not quite sure what's happening there.
Hey, just a tip- when you edit, it's a good idea to fill in an edit summary, so users can quickly see what you're doing by just glancing at the page history. It's a bit more comprehensive than the automatic summaries. If you want, in your preferences page- on the top right- when you click on the editing tab, there's a box you can check which says "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary'- that way you'll have 100% accuracy, and users can see this when running checks like [4] and [5]. Just a tip- CattleGirl talk 11:22, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:holmes.sherlock

Hi, my talk page is getting more message and more, it is now 33 kilobytes long! Can I delet some of my messages? How can I know users in wikipedia? Or if I saw something they did wrong or they vandalize wikipedia, what can I do? I just warn them on their talk page, no, but I am not an administrator, so,what can I do to stop users vandalizing wikipedia , but not blocking them? As I am not an administrator. So, thanks for your long reply on my talk page, you are so kind to me, which barnstar should I give you for your kindness? Thanks a lot, Cheers, Holmes.sherlock 04:13, 26 August 2007 (UTC) Again, no need to reply on your talk page, just reply on mine, thanks[reply]

Hey,
Wow, thanks for the barnstar! I appreciate it :).
For your talkpage, what I do, which I'd recommend, is to archive your talk page. Pretty easily done- for instance, just copy and paste your current talk page to User talk:Holmes.sherlock/Archive 1 and save, and delete the messages you just copied and pasted over on your current talk page (Remember, it won't come up with a bar that says you have new messages when someone edits that page, you'd have to add it to your watchlist).
If you want to get to know users on Wikipedia, the best and probably only way to do that is to edit! You'll bump into plenty of people on the way.
Vandalism... you can easily help, definitely, and no, you're right, you don't have to be an administrator. What you do is when you see users vandalising a page, you revert their edits. This is done by saving the page on the version before they last edited. For instance, if you click on the history tab at the top of your talk page, you'll see a link in the form of a time and date next to the username of the user who made the edit. If you wanted to revert an edit, you'd click on the time and date link before that edit, and it will take you to a page with a pink bar at the top saying that it is a previous version on the page. Then click on "Edit this page", and save the page.
I know it sounds complicated, but you get quicker at it :).
Once you've reverted the edit, it's a good idea to warn the user in the hope that they won't do it again- and we have plenty of tailored warnings at WP:WARN. It's up to you to choose the one that fits the situation most, and once you've chosen, choose the level- they range from level 1 to level 4, or level 4a. The level 4s are the most severe, so you should start with a level 1 or 2, or you should give them a warning that's the next level up from the person who warned before you, if any.
If they've had a final warning (Level 4) and they vandalise AGAIN, then you can report them to WP:AIV, where an admin will look over their contributions and most likely block them.
Now that was a lot of text for a very simple thing! Sorry about that, but I hope I covered everything :)
Oh, and I might as well reply here as well, as then people can see both sides of the conversation if they look at my talk page, rather than just your reply- it makes it easier to read.
And once again, thanks for the barnstar! Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:51, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to get some advice from you about how I can make the Lawn Nation Wiki entry better so that it is not deleted.... should I remove all the products that are sold and just include what Lawn Nation does and has done? We really want to start getting the word out about how lawn nation is going to benefit the enviroment. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LawnNation (talk • contribs) 09:29, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Hi, how are you? I can definitely give you some advice.
The reason I deleted it was that it was mainly a directory- but you're pretty much spot on in your message to me that the page should have what Lawn Nation does and has done, and basically what it's about.
However, make sure that the page fits our notability guidelines, and you should also probably have a look at WP:COI. Whereas you are allowed to create the page and edit it, just make sure you're editing from a neutral point of view.
I hope that helped- if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:47, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Holmes.Sherlock

A long reply again, CattleGirl! As for the barnstar, no thanks, you deserve 10 barnstars or more! I saw users talk page, and they also have a few achieves, but there is a picture in their achieves, like a mailbox, can I have it also? Also, what's your age, and do you have lots of time at home using wikipedia? It's my summer holiday now, so I always use the computer, but after it, I might be busy, ♥, are you quite busy in real life? Thanks, Holmes.sherlock 13:40, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again :)
As for a picture in your archive- you can put templates such as '''{{Template:Talkarchive}}''' at the top and bottom of the page, which looks like this. Or you could also mean '''{{archive box}}''', however you need to put a link for your parameter, like: '''{{Archive box|[[/Archive 1]]}}'''. That looks like this.
I'd prefer not to say my age- online security and all! I'm quite busy, but before I start work on the computer, or music practise, I always go on Wikipedia for a bit. And as for whether I am busy in real life... always! :)
Hey I thought of a tip for you- when you edit, a good thing to do is to fill in an edit summary- that box at the bottom of the window just above the save page button. This means that others can see what changes you just made by the description you put in that box.
You can also go to 'My Preferences', at the top of the page, and click on the Editing tab, and check "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary", so you never enter a black one.
Just a tip :). Talk to you soon, CattleGirl talk 07:13, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rawiri Hinder

Here are some links that may help.

Unfortunately [Onefineday] disband, so there is little left. Which is why I am creating this page and the [Onefineday] page. (Which I am also having copyright issues with) Hopefully this will be up soon.

Holmes.sherlock/bot

Hi, it's me, holmes.sherlock again! I want to request for a bot, what can I do, and what is a bot? See my userpage. Thanks and cheers, Holmes.sherlock 14:33, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, how are you?
I'll answer your question first...
Information on bots can be found at WP:BOT. It's an automatic process that you must write and then put it up for approval to use on Wikipedia.
Also, I've had some things to do at home, so I haven't been active for the past couple of days- so I only just noticed that you've stopped editing Wikipedia. That's a shame, but I'm sure you have your reasons. If you left because of the comments on your talk page, right at the bottom- I actually think it's a good idea to listen to these comments, and perhaps learn from them. Just keep in mind that these people are not being mean to you, they are just trying to help you, and their advice would advance you considerably in your editing skills. Just make sure you don't take it personally.
If you do decide to return, then please feel free to ask me anything again!
Good luck- CattleGirl talk 10:54, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attention spamlist! I've just updated CSD AutoReason to account for the new image deletion page. If you'd just hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 in most browsers), you'll get the new version and be on your way. ^demon[omg plz] 17:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Red Angus Reminder

The Red Angus article still needs a lot of love, both with citations to back up the existing text as well as possibly some cited material about the differences between Black Angus and Red Angus. Just a reminder from a fellow "cownnoisseur". --Steelviper 21:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow, thanks for reminding me- you could probably tell, I'd completely forgotten. I'll be working on that in the near future- thanks! CattleGirl talk 11:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The amount of time it took to get Morrissey onstage was getting longer and longer. There was this great game he'd play of wanting to be asked 15 times if it had been 14 the night before. Reverts

Hi! Id like to note the last reverts of user Francis Tyers here and here. It seems to be an edit war without any serious explanations. Please could you have a look at that reverts? Thanks in advance! Andranikpasha 21:35, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, how're you going?
I've had a look- I think all that can be done under the circumstances has been done. At the moment, the article is protected, which is what I would have done- so that all arguments can be discussed on the talk page.
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 09:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for a vandal block

Hi Cattle Girl,

We need to block user 217.91.43.41 again. They were blocked for two months in the past for repeated vandalism but are back to doing it again. They vandalized the page "dollar cost averaging" with some homophobic stuff.

Acad Ronin 12:48, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again :)
I've given them a final warning- if they vandalise again in the near future, they should be blocked. They've been reverted, as well.
For a quicker block if I'm not online you may want to list them on WP:AIV- someone will look into it almost as soon as it comes up.
Thanks for letting me know- CattleGirl talk 09:18, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
