Signature fix needed
Your current signature has a pipe character in it, which causes problems when your signature is used in certain situations. Please see the guidance here to fix it. I fixed it for you at Template:Did you know nominations/Jim Jones. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:29, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Wesley Swift
Hi, that interbreeding sentence needs a grammar check. Doug Weller talk 18:04, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the catch, one too many words. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 19:23, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- No problem. Doug Weller talk 20:25, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Also on the Wesley Swift page, could you double check your citation on Swift and Smith participating in the Little Rock High crisis? The Graeme Cope piece doesn't seem to mention either. HoustonRH7 (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, after a bit of digging, I think I've found the confusion. The article "The White Citizens’ Council and Resistance to School Desegregation in Arkansas" (also from "The Arkansas Historic Quarterly") says in a citation:
- CROSS also invited Dr. Wesley A. Swift to address a rally. Given advance billing as “State Director, Anti-Communist League of California and pastor of a well-known Los Angeles Church,” the Reverend Swift arrived in Little Rock but did not appear at the segregationists’ rally. When the Arkansas Gazette revealed that he had been a Klansman and bodyguard for Gerald L. K. Smith, CROSS canceled his scheduled address and used local talent. See editorial, “The Contrast Between CROSS and STOP,” Arkansas Gazette, May 19, 1959; and Alexander, Little Rock Recall Election, 28."
- So it looks like Swift was billed to appear as a speaker, but after the Gazette article came out, that appearance was cancelled. The wording suggests he had served as a klansman and Smith bodyguard prior to the Little Rock event, not during, unless I'm reading it wrong. HoustonRH7 (talk) 19:33, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- I read it to say he ended up not being a speaker, but was instead a bodyguard for Smith, who was speaking. I might be reading it wrong too! :) I adjusted it to more closely match the source. I am totally open to removing it or rewording it. I expanded the article just using a google search of all the RS I could find. I don't really have any personal expertise with the subject. Feel free to adjust however you feel best. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 20:20, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Your deleted comment
I deleted your comment because it was in a closed section and no-one would read it. Ordinarily I’d recommend moving it to the main conversion but the MfD is shut and archived, so please do not edit it further. I’ve closed all the gratuitous MfDs as keep/speedy keep so you can calm down now. Dronebogus (talk) 23:08, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- No.. You deleted my comment, and then you closed the MfD. Not the other way around. I am very calm. :) You are violating policy. Please stop it. Are you an Admin? you are not listed on the as an admin. I am not sure, are non-admins permitted to close MfDs? I need to look that up. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 23:11, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Dronebogus: :Ah yes, there it is. "A volunteer (the "closing admin") will review the article, carefully read the discussion, weigh all the facts, evidence and arguments presented and determine if consensus was reached on the fate of the article." If you are not an admin, why are you closing MfDs? If you are an admin, please excuse me. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 23:17, 24 August 2022 (UTC)}}
- Just asking one more time. Are you impersonating an admin? Or are you actually an admin? I will take your silence to mean you have decided to be a good editor and go write an article. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 23:30, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- I’m not an admin, but yes non-admins can close MfDs and I don’t think anyone wanted this one open any longer. Dronebogus (talk) 00:04, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
I reverted your change to the archived discussion because it is silly to re-insert a comment like that where the universe of people who will care can fit into a Fiat Punto. Protonk (talk) 04:45, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
Prontonk, I appreciate that it is silly. But it is The principle of the matter. This user in question is going out of his way to silence and eliminate opinions that they do not like on Wikipedia. And he is abusing policies to do so. They deleted a comment they didn't like, and then closed the discussion so as to prevent its re-adding. This is a pattern this user has been exhibiting to silence disagreeing opinions on multiple talk pages at this point. This user is is behaving like a troll. And I don't see anyone asking him to stop besides me. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 10:51, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
- To what end though? I also contemplated restoring your comment and/or reverting their hat of a discussion they weren't involved in, but by that point it seemed like the whole page was destined to be largely unread by anyone. Probably you, me and Dronebogus were the only ones (maybe Rogue9) who noticed the comment was removed in the first place. If there's a principle at work, I think it is probably better served in another way. I'm also not sure you're the only one asking them to stop. Seems the reason they closed their own MfD is that it was trending toward a speedy keep due to the actions and comments of people who wanted to stop them from doing what you were worried about. Protonk (talk) 14:30, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
- This is true. I appreciate your perspective. :) —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 14:42, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. The judges are Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Gtag10 (talk) 01:27, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Keep The main article is already well above the recommended article length, and this article is an appropriate use of a sub article. The content of this article is well sourced and relevant, and The use of early life articles is appropriate in the case of prominent historical figures. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 01:31, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
