[1] Why not relist? SpinningSpark 15:14, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Spinningspark: That's fine too. I was hovering between the two, but I think since Jc37's remarks came so late, I think it's worth a relist. bibliomaniac15 18:41, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm a bit concerned about the result of this CfD. The discussion regrettably didn't pick up on the fact that not all the articles in the category are actually about African-American people: Amadou Diallo was from Guinea and only arrived in the U.S. in his 20s; Ousmane Zongo was Burkinabé; Abdul Razak Ali Artan was Somali; perhaps others besides. It's of course possible that these people considered themselves African-American, but ordinarily the term refers to people born in the U.S., naturalised citizens, and/or people who've lived there a long time. I'm not objecting to your close of course, which clearly reflected the consensus, but the WP:MR guidance is insistent that these things be discussed with the closer first, and as I don't usually pay much attention to CfD your thoughts on the best course would be appreciated. Thanks, – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:28, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Arms & Hearts: Hey there, thanks for letting me know! This does seem like new information that wasn't discussed before, so I think that the best course of action would be to open up a new CFD, mentioning your rationale and the fact that you discussed this with me (so it isn't seen as a contentious reopening). If you want, I can also open up the CFD for you as a procedural matter. bibliomaniac15 18:24, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- The category was a subcat of Category:African-American people and so the objection of Arms & Hearts applies to the placing Ousmane Zongo and Abdul Razak Ali Artan in this category under either name. An answer would be to create a parent such as Category:People of African descent shot dead by law enforcement officers in the United States, subcat of Category:People of African descent. (There is no Category:Black people: it was deleted at cfd in 2006.) Oculi (talk) 18:37, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks both. Yes, Oculi, that does complicate things – although, to complicate things further, aren't the above-named people African people rather than people of African descent? (There may still be others who are African-Canadian, Black British etc. though.) I'll go ahead with the new CfD and try and summarise the issues. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:01, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

- @Jc37: You'll need to give it time for the bot to make it through all of them. It was working on them as you sent me this message. They're all done now, as far as I can tell. bibliomaniac15 22:17, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oh ok, great. Sometimes the bots get "stuck" (among other possible issues), so I thought I'd let you know just in case. Glad that there wasn't an issue. - jc37 00:41, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Just wondering if you missed the updated functions of JJMC89's bot for CFD. Try the Retain part of WP:CFDW; it even posts the Old CfD templates. We just have to follow the syntax requirements on that page. – Fayenatic London 22:45, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: I'm aware of the Retain function; it's just that XFDCloser was updated to do the same thing automatically for retain situations. Just cutting out the middleman, er, middlebot! bibliomaniac15 01:52, 25 September 2021 (UTC) PS: Thanks for the archive restructuring!
GAN mentor question
Hello! I saw you listed as one of the mentors over at GAN. I am back to editing after a long absence, and I was wondering if you could take a look at a recent review I completed for Cyrtophora citricola. Any feedback is welcome and there is no rush. Thank you! -Pax Verbum 05:35, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
Confused about CfD
I noticed that you closed this discussion as delete on Sep 11. But 12 days later, the category still seems to exist (although it is nominated for speedy deletion by JPxG). I'm unfamiliar with CfD, so this confuses me. I know that with AfDs, an article link becomes red pretty soon after the discussion is closed as "delete". Any insights would be appreciated, thanks VR talk 17:14, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.

- Unregistered editors using the mobile website are now able to receive notices to indicate they have talk page messages. The notice looks similar to what is already present on desktop, and will be displayed on when viewing any page except mainspace and when editing any page. (T284642)
- The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)
- Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee Elections is open until 23:59, 06 December 2021 (UTC).
- The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Candidates in Canadian elections
I wanted to ask you about your closure of Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 November 2#Category:Christian Heritage Party of Canada candidates in the 1988 Canadian federal election, because you treated the two parent categories differently from each other on grounds where there wasn't actually a difference between them.
Specifically, you decided to keep Category:Christian Heritage Party of Canada candidates for the Canadian House of Commons on the grounds that it also had list overview articles like Christian Heritage Party of Canada candidates in the 1988 Canadian federal election — but if that's grounds for keeping that category, then Category:Co-operative Commonwealth Federation candidates for the Canadian House of Commons also has to be kept, because list overview articles like Co-operative Commonwealth Federation candidates in the 1940 Canadian federal election were present there too. So such lists can't be grounds for keeping one category but not the other, if both categories had them — either they both have to be kept on the grounds of the list articles that they both have, or they both have to be deleted regardless of the list articles. We can't treat them differently from each other on grounds that didn't actually make them any different from each other. Bearcat (talk) 18:45, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Bearcat: Thanks for pointing that out. On further investigation, the problem actually seems to be that the Commonwealth Federation candidate overview articles were actually never placed in Category:Co-operative Commonwealth Federation candidates for the Canadian House of Commons; they are only categorized in the "Candidates in the XXXX Canadian federal election" category tree. By contrast, the Christian Heritage party articles are in both trees. Unfortunately, when I closed the CFD, I only noticed that the Commonwealth Federation category had non-overview articles in it, so I had listed it for deletion. I will restore it and populate it in a similar fashion to Category:Christian Heritage Party of Canada candidates for the Canadian House of Commons (which needs to be purged of non-overview articles anyway). bibliomaniac15 23:12, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Depopulation of category deleted via CfD
Category:Government bodies in New Jersey with .gov websites is still populated, despite your closure of the relevant CfD as "delete". I believe the the other categories listed have already been deleted and depopulated. Alansohn (talk) 19:52, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: Thanks for letting me know. I've added it to WP:CFD/W. bibliomaniac15 20:01, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for taking care of this and doing it so quickly. Alansohn (talk) 21:22, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2021).
- Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.
- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.
- The functionaries email list (functionaries-en
lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Peer review request
Does "CVG", listed as one of the topics you deal with on the peer review volunteer list, stand for "computer video games"? I am asking because I would like to request feedback for a video game article that is on peer review. I would definitely appreciate it, for I have plans to nominate it for featured article candidacy. The game’s named Fallout, and the peer review can be accessed here. Of course, it is possible that CVG does not stand for computer video games. Don’t feel too inclined to provide feedback. User:TyronMcLannister is vandalising the wikipage Chinese Australians by repeatedly removing Chinese Australians of partial European descent despite leaving out other wikipages Cornish Australians and German Australians that contain famous figures that are of mixed cornish and mixed german ancestry as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rooveaouravevo (talk • contribs) 05:12, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- This is a brand-new account whose entire field of interest is original research in citing sources in specific two articles:[2] and [3], as well as changing the established definition of ethnicity in the article to its own. My friendly and polite attempts [4] to explain to the new user that it is necessary to cooperate and seek consensus with other editors based on reliable sources were unsuccessful, he began a vindictive action of accusing me of vandalism and spamming these accusations, including on the administrators talk pages as we can see. Clear case of WP:NOTHERE. TyronMcLannister (talk) 12:24, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Deletion review for Religious community
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Religious community. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. --evrik (talk) 02:15, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Evrik: Generally speaking, before you start a DR, you should just contact the closing admin first to see if it's necessary in the first place. Your request is pretty uncontroversial and doesn't really require extra discussion; I've gone ahead and undeleted for history purposes, as you requested. bibliomaniac15 04:17, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. --evrik (talk) 04:20, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- On another topic, Yunshui appears to have left the project. Could you restore the history of Samuel Clift? Thanks. --evrik (talk) 16:26, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think this request is necessary. Looking at the history, the articles that were speedily deleted were about a different, non-notable BLP Samuel Clift. bibliomaniac15 18:00, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Always precious
Ten years ago, you were found precious. That's what you are, always. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
Updates to bureaucrat minimum activity requirements
Hello Bibliomaniac15.
Following a discussion at the Bureaucrats' noticeboard, the minimum activity requirements for bureaucrats have been updated to also include the the recently updated minimum editing requirements for administrators (i.e. at least 100 edits every 5 years). This will be enforced beginning in January 2023. Should you no longer wish to volunteer as a bureaucrat you may request removal at SRP and.or let us know at WP:BN.
