WikiCup 2021 November newsletter

The WikiCup is over for another year and the finalists can relax! Our Champion this year is Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions), who amassed over 5000 points in the final round, achieving 8 featured articles and almost 500 reviews. It was a very competitive round; seven of the finalists achieved over 1000 points in the round (enough to win the 2019 contest), and three scored over 3000 (enough to win the 2020 event). Our 2021 finalists and their scores were:

  1. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) with 5072 points
  2. England Lee Vilenski (submissions) with 3276 points
  3. Rwanda Amakuru (submissions) with 3197 points
  4. New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) with 1611 points
  5. Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1571 points
  6. Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 1420 points
  7. Hog Farm (submissions) with 1043 points
  8. Republic of Venice Bloom6132 (submissions) with 528 points

All those who reached the final round will win awards. The following special awards will be made based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. Awards will be handed out in the next few days.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup, some of whom did very well. Wikipedia has benefitted greatly from the quality creations, expansions and improvements made, and the numerous reviews performed. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition, not forgetting User:Jarry1250, who runs the scoring bot.

If you have views on whether the rules or scoring need adjustment for next year's contest, please comment on the WikiCup talk page. Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2022 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. JC Tretter of the Cleveland Browns

Hi there,

I noticed you edit a lot of Cleveland-related articles and was hoping you might be able to help me out with something related to one of the Cleveland Browns players.

The J._C._Tretter article is titled incorrectly. The name of the article should be "JC Tretter" without the two periods, as that is how he formats his name. For reference, https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/players-roster/jc-tretter/ lists his name correctly as simply "JC Tretter"

Would you be able to help correct the title of that article, by chance? I would do it myself, but I work with the NFLPA and thus have a conflict of interest.

Thanks, JeffreyArthurVA (talk) 17:47, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Saw that you made the correction. Thanks a lot! JeffreyArthurVA (talk) 20:30, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed the article on JC Tretter does not include a subsection on his time as NFLPA President, so I wrote up a draft at User:JeffreyArthurVA/Sandbox11. Would you mind taking a glimpse at this draft and, if it looks good to you, add it to the JC Tretter article at the end of the JC_Tretter#Professional_career section? Have a good day, -JeffreyArthurVA (talk) 21:00, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
JeffreyArthurVA I saw your write up. The one thing I can see an issue with (not necessarily by me, but others) is WP:Weight. It could be interpreted as putting too much emphasis on that one aspect of his career. Trim a little fat and make it look a little less "rah-rah". I'll take a look again, and we'll go from there. Vjmlhds 23:17, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Vjmlhds Your feedback makes sense and I appreciate it. I trimmed the fat and the rah-rah (and removed the quote from ESPN) to be more matter-of-fact and in proportion to the rest of the article. How does the updated version at User:JeffreyArthurVA/Sandbox11 look to you? Cheers, -JeffreyArthurVA (talk) 20:55, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
JeffreyArthurVA I'd say good enough to be included in the article. Vjmlhds 21:57, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Vjmlhds Thanks. One last question -- could you delete the last sentence of the "Cleveland Browns" section of this JC Tretter article? Now that the "NFLPA President" section exists below it, that last sentence in the Browns section is now duplicative. Have a good one --JeffreyArthurVA (talk) 22:29, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for the extra source for Masha.

It's good to see someone actually trying to help with the Impact roster instead of just removing things to fuel their egos. I appreciate it. SkylerLovefist (talk) 18:01, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

VJ, as Adicted said, WInc is not a reliable source. Please, use a reliable source for the real name. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 08:21, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Kris Statlander, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. KyleJoantalk 01:11, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm KyleJoan. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, The View (talk show), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. KyleJoantalk 05:12, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Daytime television in the United States, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chicago Fire.
