Tagging pages for speedy deletion
Hello, Johnnie Bob,

It's important when you tag a page for any type of deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/TFD/CFD/etc.) that you post a notice on the talk page of the page creator. It lets them know there is a problem and why a page they started might have been deleted. That's why I encourage editors to make use of Twinkle because once you set up your Preferences to "Notify page creator", the program will post these notices for you. It also has other features like the ability to maintain a log of pages you've tagged that some editors find very useful. Just a suggestion. Thanks! <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">Liz</span> Read! Talk! 20:49, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello, welcome to my talk page!

If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom, as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply pressing the plus sign (+) or "new section" on the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~

Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist and topic subscriptions to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.

Thank you!

Johnnie Bob, you are invited to the Teahouse!

Possible COI

Hi. I noticed that you seem to have a particular interest in the article about Gina R. Poe. Specifically, you appear to have an urgent need to have the template on the page removed. As you know, any COI should be disclosed on your talk page. For reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest ColdDeepLake (talk) 18:07, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ColdDeepLake, thank you for the notification. There is no COI in this case and I am in no way connected with the subject of the article. --Johnnie Bob (talk) 23:03, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WikiProject Biography

I want to personally welcome you as a new member of the WikiProject Biography. I myself just joined it days ago. I'd encourage you to add a note on the Members page about what types of biographies you are most interested in adding or improving. - AppleBsTime (talk) 13:27, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the suggestion I will do that :) J. --Johnnie Bob (talk) 13:32, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My recent edits to the page of Utah Gov. J. Bracken Lee

Dear Johnnie, I noticed that you've undone my recent edits to the Gov. J. Bracken Lee page regarding his English ancestral background. I understand that Wikipedia is not a directory and that genealogical information should only be added when it is of valuable information. However, references to the ethnicity of Americans, especially politicians, is quite commonly found on Wikipedia. I think you'd agree that for example an article about JFK would be incomplete without a reference to the fact that all of his grandparents were Irish. Also I find the source, apparently itself a Wiki project, reliable enough - it relies on the US Census and the FamilySearch website. (Also family trees are not known for changing in the course of time or being subject to widespread dispute). If you couldn't use them most genealogical information would be lost for Wikipedia. Also other sources on the Internet, geni.com for instance, show matching data. As you might have noticed this is my first day on Wikipedia (and to be honest missing ancestral info was my only reason to join in the first place), so maybe I'm wrong but I'd very much like to hear your standpoint.

None of my edits there were unexplained and your revert of them is in violation of WP:BURDEN. If you expect warning notices to be taken seriously, you need to make sure they are valid and at a minimum, sign them. 65.129.39.34 (talk) 20:40, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jonas Tomalty: I wasn’t aware that I could not simply add links to my own profile. I in no way intended to go outside of the Wikipedia guidelines and disturb the process. I had no intention of trying to financially gain from any of these citations either. As an established artist of 25 years it is very important for me to have a reliable Wikipedia page as a primary source for fans and media. As you can see from my username I was not trying to be sneaky or hide my identity. I am Jonas Tomalty. I will permanently refrain from making any edits or contributions to my own page from now on. In return I ask you please remove all of these flags from my page so that established and reliable Wikipedia editors can freely contribute and so that when someone opens my page it comes across as completely legitimate. I thank you for taking my appeal into consideration. Jonastomalty (talk) 13:27, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Electrical and computer engineering departments requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Wrong revert?

Hi, about your revert, human–computer interaction is not hyphenated, but using en dash, as seemed appropriate, as in human and computer [interacting]. comp.arch (talk) 15:05, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted a correction back to an incorrection

Felix Silla died today in hospice. He had pancreatic cancer. It hasn't made the news yet, but it's all over the web. Gil Gerard just broke the news on his twitter feed. He's not going on speculation. He knows for a fact. If you revert my edit, it's just going to be re-edited with the same information minutes later by others. You're going to be up all night reverting other people's edits if you revert mine. Kubrickrules (talk) 21:54, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kubrickrules - when you add it back in you can include a citation to one of those reliable sources that are "... all over the web."
Okay, you do you, buddy. Have fun sanctimoniously reverting everyone's edits all night tonight, chief. Kubrickrules (talk) 22:11, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oo, look at that. 54 minutes later, you finally realised I was right, and put the correct information back. That must have been so fun for you. Have a nice evening. Kubrickrules (talk) 23:04, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dianna Cohen

Hello,

I need your help. I tried to be very factual, I took your feedback into account. A user seems to think that one cannot mention the interview of Dianna Cohen in Seaspiracy but that is ok to mention that she surfs. Cohen is the CEO of one of the major NGO fighting for plastic reduction and the documentary was part of the top 10 views of Netflix. I don't want to engage in an edit war but I'm trying to understand how to be a better wikipedia contributor and why a simple factual mention is considered an issue Accolondegaule (talk) 11:27, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accolondegaule, I will address what I feel is the most significant part of your question above, that is, "... how to be a better Wikipedia contributor ..." What I use to guide myself in this in general is to ask myself "How does this improve the encyclopedia?" There are tens of thousands of articles on this service that need improvement, and there are a comparable number of people daily working to destroy it through vandalism, false information, hate speech, and self-promotion. Now I'm not saying that you are trying to introduce false information, but what I am saying is that Wikipedia is not a newspaper (see WP:NOTNEWS) and not every factual piece of information is significant enough to be included just because it may happen to be factual. Perhaps you can leave a better mark by focusing on improving articles that are poorly written or improperly sourced, or helping to combat vandalism, or other positive change. The best editors on Wikipedia are the ones who focus on the positives, always seeking to improve the platform, and it is these users who leave a shining example for others to follow. Well there it is, you have asked for my opinion and advice and I have given it. Please consider it thoughtfully. – John (Johnnie Bob (talk) 15:27, 17 April 2021 (UTC))[reply]
Johnnie Bob, Thank you for your feedback and for sure I will try to transform it into action. Concerning the article I was changing. We are talking about the great Pacific plastic patch. The documentary explains that over 50% of the plastic comes from fishing equipment yet one of major NGO on the issue focuses on plastic straws representing only 0.03%. When asked why, the CEO of that organization evades the question. I understand my wording was wrong and I understand the need to stay neutral. I do feel however that people researching the issue would be interested to know the fact. We are talking about a public figure who is a speaker on the topic. Finally her documentary is on the article as well as a number of other trial facts. I'm willing to move on of course but I still struggle to see why a few words, very factual about her presence in that documentary are worth threats by a user. Thank you for your help and feedback Accolondegaule (talk) 19:27, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bonn International School

Hi there, a few days ago you reversed some edits that I had made on the Bonn International School Page. I have redone these edits as they were not done as a test. Please could you ensure that these edits remain published on the page? Many thanks Genuinewikieditor (talk) 08:51, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bonn International School edits

Hi there, You just left a message about my edits to this entry. These edits were not made as test or in error. Please could you reinstate the text? I have also engaged with another editor (Cordless Larry) and have changed the text to make sure it is purely factual and that it is referenced accurately with no links embedded. If you can see any further issues with what I have written please let me know and I will amend, otherwise please could you reinstate? Many thanks Genuinewikieditor (talk) 13:10, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The changes you made are not in accordance with standard style requirements for Wikipedia (See WP:MOS). In particular, headings, inline citations, and other important components of the page are expected to be formatted in a particular way. Usually when they are not, it is an indication that the editor is just "playing around" or testing various types of editing on a live article, which is forbidden. I suggest you read WP:MOS and also have a look at other similar articles for guidance and test your edits in your user sandbox area to make sure the results are as they should be before publishing changes to a live article. — Johnnie Bob (talk) 13:18, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Electrode Boiler Modifications Reference Material

Hi JB,

I think you made a mistake. Please reconsider allowing my edits. My edits cleaned up inaccuracies copied from "Electric Boilers" and also made clear that water can be limited to electrodes in a number of ways. I will work on re-working if you would like. I replaced an archived version of the old Cleaver-Brooks site with the new version. It seems as if this did break the rules. I am a resident expert here on electrode boilers and will be publishing works on it in the near future.

Thanks, John

Hello 63.139.8.234. First of all, when posting to any talk page on Wikipedia, please don't forget to WP:SIGN your posts. Now, I will address your concerns about your edits to the article Electrode boiler. There are two tightly coupled issues here. The first of these is that editing on Wikipedia for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted (see WP:PROMOTION). The second issue has to do with conflicts of interest. While it is not forbidden for a employee or representative of an equipment manufacturer to edit an article about the equipment in question, when that employee or representative places promotional material in the article, the potential conflict of interest becomes real (this is where the "tight coupling" I alluded to above comes in). You can read about conflicts of interest on Wikipedia here. Your edit summary for the edit in question is also arguably promotional, where you stated "Any questions or requests for additional content, please contact me at jlemke@cleaverbrooks.com. I am product manager of electric and electrode boilers at Cleaver-Brooks."
Please read the Wikipedia articles at WP:PROMOTIONAL and WP:COI very carefully before you do any more editing. I hope this explanation helps you to understand the reason I reverted your edit and how to avoid future problems. Regards, Johnnie Bob (talk) 14:54, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting my edit to MC (disambiguation)

Hi! I see you reverted my edit to MC (disambiguation) standing for Minecraft. I think you should reconsider the deletion; MC is often used as an abbreviation for MC.[1] A website called NameMC, a directory for Minecraft players and usernames, literally uses the acronym to stand for Minecraft.[2]. Even Minecraft's own website abbreviates bugs as "MC".[3]. While I can't directly edit Minecraft due to extended-confirmed permissions to insert it in myself, "MC" is such a common and notable abbreviation for Minecraft.

Hello, InvadingInvader. Please sign all future posts to any talk page on Wikipedia that you post to. Now, regarding your edit, Minecraft is a mature article, having been in existence on the English-language Wikipedia since 2010. Thousands of editors of all different levels of experience have contributed to it during its history. Yet it does not mention that MC is "... a common and notable abbreviation ...," as you assert. Why do you think that is? It is because MC is not a common and notable abbreviation. And since the one condition for the this abbreviation to appear on the DAB page is that it be mentioned in the article as such, that is why the abbreviation does not appear on the DAB page. Hope this explanation helps and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. — Johnnie Bob (talk) 17:15, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
