Pastrmalija (Macedonian: Пастрмалија) or colloquially Pastrmajlija (Macedonian: Пастрмајлија) is a Macedonian bread pie made from dough, cheese, eggs and meat.[1] Pastrmalija is usually oval-shaped with sliced meat cubes on top of it, and in some regions people put cheese, and in some regions people put eggs 5 minutes before the finish of the baking.[2] Its name derives from the word pastrma, meaning salted and dried meat of sheep or lamb[3] (cf. "pastırma"). It is based on the Turkish İçli Pide. Although it is officially called pastrmalija, a popular name among the Macedonian people is "pastrmajlija", only adding the letter "j".[4]

In its honor, the city of Štip organizes an annual festival called "Pastrmalijada".
