Freeman is an unincorporated community in the center of Clay Township, Owen County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.[2] It lies near the intersection of County Road 650 South and Indiana Highway 43, which is a community nearly nine miles south of the city of Spencer, the county seat.[3] Its elevation is 541 feet (165 m), and it is located at 39°11′44″N 86°44′1″W / 39.19556°N 86.73361°W / 39.19556; -86.73361 (39.1953233 -86.7336153).

History

A post office was established at Freeman in 1866, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1915.[4] The community was named after a family of settlers.[5]
