English: "Mohara Ody", two views of the same object.
Population : Malagasy

Collection Method: Military Shipping. "Ody. Idols taken on Fahavalo prisoners during the uprising of 1897".
Analytical description : The ODY are kind of magical amulets generally consist of a piece of wood or root detached from sacred trees which are added beads, horns, seeds and various other objects or substances giving them their power. There are two forms of talismans loaded and the horns threadings kind necklaces. The Malagasy Ody is close by its protective function, vodun objects. This amulet is constituted by a horn cone filled with an earthy substance in which were planted two angular pieces of wood. The horn is covered with pieces of red glass beads, black and white and two small shells. A string of small pieces of wood and glass bead is attached to the horn. Also found pearls in the shape of olives that are quite rare.

Description analytique : Les ODY sont des sortes d'amulettes magiques constituées généralement d'un morceau de bois ou de racine détaché des arbres sacrés auxquels on ajoute des perles, cornes, graines et divers autres objets ou substances leur conférant leur puissance. Il existe deux formes de talismans: les cornes chargées et les enfilages type colliers. L'Ody malgache est proche, par sa fonction protectrice, des objets vodun. Cette amulette est constituée par un cône en corne rempli d'une substance terreuse dans laquelle on a planté deux morceaux de bois anguleux. La corne est recouverte de pièces de verroterie rouge, noire et blanche et de deux petits coquillages. Un chapelet de petits morceaux de bois et de perles de verre est fixé à la corne. On trouve également des perles en forme d'olives qui sont assez rares.
