English: The crocodilian respiratory system as observed in Alligator sinensis. A shows an opened gullar valve, allowing respiration through the oral cavity. B shows a closed gullar valve, allowing crocodilians to open their jaws underwater without risk of drowning. Respiration is limited to the narial passage.
