The note of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bachs reads: NB: ueber dieser Fuge, wo der Nahme B A C H im Contrasubject angebracht worden, ist Der Verfaßer gestorben (NB: on this fugue, where the name B A C H is introduced in the countersubject, the composer died).
