Title
Archimedean drill
Object type Classification: 96717
Description
English: Small Archimedean drill, LH steel and brass drill; spiralling thread on central drill. Brass knob at top and brass attachment on drill. This small Archimedean type drill appears to rotate the wrong way, for on the downstroke it revolves anticlockwise, the opposite of most drills. But when used with an extremely small drill, any extra downwards pressure would probably break the drill. Therefore this tool turns the drill in the clockwise cutting direction of the upstroke, reducing the likelihood of breakage.
