Emmie Allen (born October 25, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Bay FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played two seasons of college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels, which she helped reach the 2022 national title game.

Early life

Allen grew up in High Point, North Carolina, the younger of two children born to Laura and Scott Allen.[2] She began playing soccer at a young age.[3] She came from a University of North Carolina family and attended soccer camps there while in middle school.[3] She played soccer and basketball for High Point Christian Academy in eighth grade.[4] She began online schooling the next year while playing for the NC Courage Academy club team.[4] She committed to North Carolina while in ninth grade.[3]

North Carolina Tar Heels

After redshirting her freshman year, Allen became North Carolina's starting goalkeeper at the start of the 2022 season.[2][5] She alternated playing halves with another keeper for her first six games before becoming the full-time starter.[2][6] She saved two penalty kicks in her first college shootout, helping advance past Duke in the semifinals of the ACC tournament.[7] In the 2022 NCAA tournament, she made six saves to shut out Notre Dame 2–0 in the quarterfinals and made a career-high nine saves in a 3–2 win against Florida State in the semifinals.[8][9] In the 2022 championship game against UCLA, she recorded eight saves, but with seconds remaining she was shoved to the ground on a corner kick converted by the Bruins; no foul was called, and North Carolina lost in overtime.[3][10][11] She finished the 2022 season with 70 saves and 8 clean sheets in 26 games.[2]

The following year, Allen recovered from a spring knee injury and played with the Courage's amateur USL W League side in the summer of 2023.[3][4] She made 46 saves and kept 8 shutouts in 21 games as a redshirt sophomore, including two shutouts in the 2023 NCAA tournament.[2] She tied her career high with nine saves in the team's 4–3 NCAA quarterfinal loss to BYU.[2][12] After her redshirt sophomore season, she declared for the 2024 NWSL Draft.[13]

Club career

Bay FC

Allen was not selected in the 2024 NWSL Draft but was invited to train with Bay FC in the preseason. On March 13, she fwas signed to a one-year contract with a one-year option, becoming Bay third option in goal behind Lysianne Proulx and Katelyn Rowland.[14][15] She made her professional debut on July 20, 2024, starting in a 3–1 defeat to San Diego Wave FC in the first group stage game of the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup.[16] On August 27, she played the second half of Bay's exhibition game against Barcelona.[17] After the season, she signed a new one-year contract with an option for an additional year.[18]
