Elianna Hutchinson (born Elianna Esther Anna Beard; Hebrew: אליאנה בירד; May 23, 1996) is a professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for USL Super League club Carolina Ascent FC. Born in the United States, she represents Israel internationally.

Early life and college career

Hutchinson was born in Portland, Oregon, to Leslie and Peter Beard, one of four children raised in a Conservative Jewish family.[1][2] She attended Portland Jewish Academy and St. Mary's Academy, where she lettered in soccer all four years.[1][2]

Hutchinson played for the Golden Eagles soccer team while attending Marquette University.[1] During her first three years, she made 46 appearances, starting 8 of them, and scored 3 goals.[1] In her senior season in 2017, she started all but one match and scored 4 goals with 4 assists in 20 games.[1] She scored a brace during the 2017 Big East tournament to help advance to the semifinals and was named to the all-tournament team.[1]

Club career

Hutchinson began her professional career in Kazakhstan, signing with BIIK Kazygurt in June 2018.[3] She appeared in four matches during the 2018–19 UEFA Women's Champions League, including as a substitute in a surprising 3–1 victory over Barcelona in the round of 32 home leg, which drew record attendance. She was unused in the following game, losing 3–0 away to Barcelona as they were eliminated from the competition 4–3 on aggregate.[4][5]

Following her first Champions League experience, Hutchinson signed with Israeli club Maccabi Holon.[6] She then played for Ramat HaSharon, starting their one game in the 2020–21 UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying rounds.[2][5] She briefly played with Grindavík in Iceland in the summer of 2021.[7]

Hutchinson then joined Israeli club Kiryat Gat.[2] She won two Ligat Nashim league championships with the club and scored the winning goal in their 2–0 final victory in the 2021–22 Israeli Women's Cup [he].[7][8] She made two starts for Kiryat Gat in the 2023–24 UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying rounds.[5]

Hutchinson played for Icelandic club Keflavík in 2024, starting 9 games in all competitions.[5]

Hutchinson was announced as a signing for USL Super League club Carolina Ascent FC on June 28, 2024, ahead of the league's inaugural season.[7]

International career

Hutchinson obtained Israeli citizenship through the Law of Return but was required by FIFA to wait five years before playing for the Israel national team.[2] She made her international debut during the 2023–24 UEFA Women's Nations League, starting in a 5–0 victory over Estonia on September 26, 2023.[2][5]

Personal life

Hutchinson married former Trinidad and Tobago international Lauryn Hutchinson on December 24, 2024.[9]
