Passport bro is a neologism coined to describe North American or European men who date or marry women from developing countries.[1] The term became popularized through TikTok.[2] Passport bros often seek traditional wives who are willing to live in a patriarchal household. The practice has been criticized as exploitive and akin to sex tourism.[3] Women from these countries have been objectified and sexually harassed.[4]
Men deemed passport bros may describe themselves as digital nomads that travel to other countries to enjoy increased purchasing power that makes it easier to raise a family. Some men embrace the label of passport bro and create content depicting their lifestyles.[5] Passport bros have been murdered in Colombia after engaging in casual sex.[6] Reality television shows that feature passport bros include 90 Day Fiancé and Love & Translation.[7]
