James Nassir Riffat (27 March 1997) is a British academic, researcher, and a figure in renewable energy and sustainable technologies. He is the CEO of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET) and a professor at Guangzhou Vocational University of Science and Technology. Riffat also serves as an associate editor for international academic journals and is a member of the organising committee for the Sustainable Energy Technologies (SET) conferences.[1]

Early life and education

James Riffat was born on 27 March 1997 in Loughborough, England. He attended the University of Nottingham, where he earned a PhD in Building Technology in 2023. His doctoral thesis, titled 'Experimental investigation of an indoor air purification system using an innovative photocatalytic mop', focused on innovative methods for improving indoor air quality.[2] He is the son of British scientist Saffa Riffat, a figure in the field of sustainable energy.

Career

James Riffat is the CEO of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET), an organisation dedicated to advancing research and collaboration in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.[3] As CEO, he oversees global initiatives, including the annual Sustainable Energy Technologies (SET) conference. He is also a member of the organising committee for the SET conferences, where he contributes to planning and coordinating these international events.[4]

He is a professor at Guangzhou Vocational University of Science and Technology[5], where he mentors students, conducts research, and fosters partnerships between academia and industry.

In addition to his roles in academia and professional organisations, James Riffat serves as an associate editor for numerous academic journals, including: Future Cities and Environment,[6] Journal of Climate Change,[7] Green Technology & Innovation,[8] Energy Catalyst,[9] Global Decarbonisation,[10] and the Asian Journal of Water, Environment and Pollution[11]

Research and contributions

James Riffat’s work primarily focuses on renewable energy and sustainable building innovations.
