Jakob Hallgren is a Swedish diplomat and international relations expert, currently serving as the Director of the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. He is also a board member of Uppsala University's Alva Myrdal Center for Nuclear Disarmament and Stockholm University's Institute for Turkish Studies. With a career in diplomacy, humanitarian policy, and disarmament, Hallgren is committed to international peacebuilding, fostering public understanding, and strengthening Sweden's presence in global diplomacy.

In 2021, Hallgren served as Sweden's Ambassador for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, where he represented Sweden in international efforts to reduce the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. From 2018 to 2021, he was Sweden's Ambassador to South Korea, promoting Swedish trade, values, and peace efforts on the Korean Peninsula.

Between 2012 and 2018, Hallgren was the Deputy Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. His work included initiating the Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, leading dialogues with North Korea and Iran, and managing peacebuilding projects in Mali.

Earlier roles in the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs included overseeing humanitarian aid and conflict management, European security policy, and representing Sweden in Geneva (2006–2010) on disaster risk reduction and humanitarian relations with organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and UN agencies.

Hallgren holds a Master of Science in International Relations from the London School of Economics, a Bachelor of Political Science and Economics from the University of Gothenburg, and a Certificat d'Études Politiques from Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris and is fluent in Swedish, English, and French.

In addition to his professional achievements, Hallgren has also contributed to international policy-making, co-chairing humanitarian funding and disaster risk reduction initiatives, and serving on Sweden's Folkrätts- och Nedrustningsdelegation (2016–2018).
