Draft:First Ever Golf Cart Drives up Pikes Peak
On September 27th, 2024, a team from World Famous Golf Carts of Fort Mill, South Carolina,
USA, supported by Trojan Battery Company made the first and only successful
summit of Pikes Peak with a battery powered golf cart. This was accomplished using a single
Trojan Lithium One Pack battery on a single charge, demonstrating the advancements and new capabilities of lithium batteries.
At 5:30 pm, Austin King, Joseph Kilbarger, Noah Stalnaker, William Finneyfrock,
Rick Sanders, representatives from the Pikes Peak Authority, National Parks Service and photographers/videographers started
the climb from the Pikes Peak Toll Gate and drove non-stop to the summit of the mountain.
Pikes Peak is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is 14,115 feet tall. It has a paved road which winds 19.5 miles from the base of the mountain to the peak. The elevation change from the toll booth at the base to the peak is 7600 feet.
The Golf cart was a 2020 Club Car Onward, driven by Austin King and not assisted or recharged in any way during the event. The battery had 26% state of charge remaining at the summit. Austin then drove the cart back down the mountain unassisted and under power from the same battery.
