Draft:Anselm Wong Siew Shen
Comment: Please remove all inline external links from body text, convert to citations where relevant. There should be no links other than citations pointing to external resources until the appendices (with the exception of one optional 'official site' link in the infobox). Please cite the items in the appendices if they support statements in this draft, otherwise remove. Comment: Of the various items listed in the appendices, only the two under 'Footnotes' are cited anywhere. Neither of them contributes anything towards notability, however, since they are both clearly based on a press release and cover the trike deal in Malaysia, with Wong commenting on the same. The items in the 'References' and 'External links' sections are not cited anywhere, and aren't therefore references. Both citations support one very short paragraph only, with the entire rest of the draft completely unreferenced. This is totally unacceptable in an article on a living person (WP:BLP), where every material statement, anything potentially contentious, and all private personal details must be clearly supported by inline citations to reliable published sources, or else removed. Activist
Acquisition of Tokyo Kikai Seisaksho, Ltd.
In October 2020, Anselm Wong returned to ADC and resumed his duties. In November 2020, former President Shinsuke Amiya (網屋信介) resigned. As no one was willing to assume the role of President, Anselm Wong was appointed President and CEO of ADC on December 25, 2020.
On October 22, 2021, during an extraordinary shareholder's meeting of Tokyo Kikai Seisaksho, Ltd., a defensive measure to block a takeover was approved without allowing ADC to exercise its voting rights. ADC filed for an injunction to overturn the decision, but the Tokyo District Court rejected the request on October 29, 2021.
On November 9, 2021, the Tokyo High Court ("the Court") upheld the ruling. The Court also applied a voting method called "Majority of Minority" (MoM), a technique that had never been used in the history of the Japanese stock market. This case set a significant precedent in Japanese corporate law.
In an interview with Toyo Keizai, Anselm Wong expressed concern over the actions taken by Tokyo Kikai Seisaksho, Ltd., stating:
"ADC is legitimately buying shares in the market, yet its value is being forcibly undermined, and even our right to oppose is being stripped away. If such unfair practices are allowed to continue, the Japanese market will no longer be considered by foreign investors. The act of stripping voting rights is something I have never heard of globally. What do they think capitalism is? We should be concerned about the damage the Japanese stock market will suffer from the establishment of a precedent."[7]
His comments and the legal case attracted significant media attention, with coverage from major outlets such as:
- WSJ: "Battle at Printing-Press Maker Shows Difficulty of Japan Takeovers[8]"
- Diamond Online: "東京機械株を爆買いするアジア開発、代表が初激白「防衛策は理不尽だ」[9]" ("Asia Development Capital Co. Ltd., which is aggressively buying up Tokyo Kikai Seisaksho, Ltd. stock, speaks out for the first time: 'Defensive measures are unreasonable.'", Japanese news)
- REUTERS: "Analysis: A court battle raises the question - how far will Japan swallow poison pills?[10]"
Strategic Ventures
In May 2022, as the head of ADC, Anselm Wong participated in a meeting with Misako Toyota (豊田美佐子), the great-granddaughter of the founder of Toyota Motor Corporation, and a key figure at Toyoda Trike Co. Ltd., a Japanese company specializing in the development and manufacturing of pure electric vehicle (EV) and electric bicycles. Also in attendance were the Malaysian Prime Minister and Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry.
The meeting resulted in the final decision to launch mobility solutions in Malaysia.[11]
In June 2022, Anselm Wong was involved in a dispute during the 61st Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of NAGAHORI CORPORATION[12], a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange-Standard Market Division. Despite holding a 1% stake as a pure investor, his name was included in supplementary meeting materials without prior confirmation. Anselm Wong strongly questioned NAGAHORI's president over the issue.[13]
Health and Resignation
In August 2022, due to health issues, Anselm Wong resigned from his position as President and CEO of ADC[14]. Following his resignation, ADC's new corporate leadership requested that he return part of the remuneration he had pledged to repay during his tenure as president.
Despite stepping down, Anselm Wong remains an influential figure in the corporate world, particularly in investment, governance, and cross-border business strategies.
