Category talk:Baroque architecture in the Ottoman Empire

Category scope/name

I'm going to wait until this discussion is completed before doing this (to avoid any further confusion there), but most of the articles in this category should be moved to a new category called "Ottoman Baroque architecture" or something to that effect. The name of this category, which was created long before the Ottoman Baroque architecture article, implies European-style Baroque architecture present in the Ottoman Empire. That appears true of one article in this category, the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit (predictably a 19th-century church). But that's not what "Ottoman Baroque" is; that label is based on the influence of European Baroque architecture on existing Ottoman architecture (roughly speaking; some scholars have argued that it's just Ottoman architecture with superficial additions, others like Doğan Kuban, Goodwin, and Rüstem argue that it was more creative than that). It would be a subcategory of Ottoman architecture, whereas this category shouldn't (edit: depending on how the parent categories end up being organized). All the other articles currently in this category belong to the "Ottoman Baroque" style, which should not be conflated with European Baroque tout court. I've created Category:Ottoman Baroque architecture to sort out the problem above. Will move most of the relevant categories and articles to there where appropriate. I don't love the similarity in names but I don't see any way around it currently. R Prazeres (talk) 00:20, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, that was deleted per consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 January 25#Category:Ottoman Baroque architecture. – Fayenatic London 20:32, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
