Women in Red is hosting a virtual editathon from April 1 to 30, 2017, on Book artists in collaboration with UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts, School of Humanities, and Langson Library, who are holding an in-person event on April 7 in Irvine, California.
The virtual edit-a-thon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate in the work. The main goals of the event are:
- to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women
- to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area
- to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
- to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)
Focus and lists of red links
In collaboration with the UCI, School of Humanities, the objective is to create or improve articles on women book artists including illustrators, cartoonists and graphic novel artists. In addition to biographies, we welcome articles on their work, their achievements, their writings and their organizations.
