December 1, 2012 - Meet and Welcome Australian Wikimedians to the US

Cancelled~ Matthewrbowker Talk to me
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.
Due to lack of response, this event is cancelled.~ Matthewrbowker Talk to me

On December 1st, at 6:38 local time, a group of Australian Wikimedians is arriving via train (linky). As Colorado Wikimedians, wouldn't it be cool if we welcomed them to our fine country? As of right now, the plan is to greet the train, so the group will need to meet at 6:15 at the station. Car-pooling can (and should!) be arranged. Afterwards, we can all pile into cars and go to dinner at an inexpensive place close by.

This is a great chance to welcome fellow Wikimedians and make some new friends!

  • Date: December 1, 2012
  • Location: AMTRAK station in Denver
  • Time: Roughtly 6:15, train arrives 6:38
Will be there
Interested, keep me informed!

November 1, 2012: Wikipedia Loves Libraries – you should too!

This year's Wikipedia Loves Libraries at CU Boulder is all about primary resources! It's next week on November 1 at 4pm. Come along for the discussion, or just to meet other Wikipedians! -- Gaurav (talk) 14:32, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

June 23, 2012: The Great Colorado Wiknic 2012

The Great American Wiknic 2012 is upon us! I've put up a page to organize something in Boulder, but we could meet up in Denver instead if you'd prefer. -- Gaurav (talk) 03:07, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

October 27, 2011: Wikipedia Loves Libraries: University of Colorado at Boulder

Hi everybody! I'm a new graduate student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I've been talking to the University Libraries about organizing events on campus, starting with a small event for Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Libraries next month (October 2011). We brainstormed a bunch of ideas, including:

  • A standard editathon
  • A group editathon: everybody breaks up into groups of 3-5 and create Wikipedia articles, incorporating images and media. Prizes are given out for the "best" article (but on what criteria?)
  • A competition to edit the most/best articles in the time given.
  • A WikiRace, in which people have to link together seemingly unrelated articles in some way, or to find the fewest links between two people.
  • A scavenger hunt, possibly held at the gorgeous Norlin Library late at night.
  • Backstage Pass events, in which librarians would show Wikipedians through UCB Libraries's collections.
  • Organizing outreach activities in concert with the UCB Libraries.
  • Set up a Wikipedia student group on campus.

I know there's a really active Wikipedia community here (it sounds like you had a great bash for Wikipedia's 10th Anniversary!), so I'd love to know what you'd like to see happen for Wikipedia Loves Libraries or generally on the CU Boulder campus. If you are a CU Boulder student and would like to help organize this, please get in touch with me on my Wikipedia page, or leave a message for me here. Thanks! -- Gaurav (talk) 23:33, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We've gotten the okay for this from the University Libraries! Check out our event page and please give us your suggestions! -- Gaurav (talk) 06:58, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

June 25, 2011: The Great Colorado Wiknic 2011

Wikipedia:Wiknic anyone? At the DNote in Arvada maybe? We should decide soon.

The D Note works for me! The D Note is one mile north of the intersection of I-70, I-76, and SH-121 (Wadsworth Boulevard) and just a short walk from the Arvada Park-N-Ride.  Buaidh  21:43, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Tentatively set for 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Facility wireless routed of course. JacquesDelaguerre (talk) 17:15, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I should be able to make it.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 19:41, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That would be fun, and the D Note is a nice place, but I may still be up in the mountains. Anyway, thanks for organizing! ★NealMcB★ (talk) 00:30, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the invite, I'll be there, on my phone calendar. Cheers! LanceBarber (talk) 03:26, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds fun. I'm not incredibly active on wiki but interested in who might show up. Thanks for organizing! kifo 21:42, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

I believe we are all set. See you all at the DNote, 7519 Grandview in Olde Town Arvada (Grandview & Old Wadsworth Blvd.) at 3 on Saturday. JacquesDelaguerre (talk) 06:41, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do these meetups happen often? I'm very interested in finding local Wikipedia users with whom I can trade useful information, as well as seek answers to some specific questions about pages on which I'm currently working. Timeinabottle8615 (talk) 20:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We've scheduled just these two meetings in Boulder and Arvada so far. I suspect we will try to have at least two meetings per year in Colorado if there is continued interest. Our membership is scattered across the state. Though most of our meetings will probably be in the Metro Denver Area, I hope we can meet in the Colorado Springs-Pueblo-Cañon City area, the Fort Collins-Greeley-Loveland area, and perhaps the West Slope in the future. (How about a meetup in the pool at Glenwood Hot Springs?) It's all a matter of how much interest there is out there. Please let me know what you think about future meetups in Colorado.
If you need information, suggestions, or help with Wikimedia, feel free to contact the members of WikiProject Colorado listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Colorado/Members or Category:WikiProject Colorado members. Most of us will will be happy to help or refer you to someone who can help you. You can also post questions and requests at Wikipedia:WikiProject Colorado#Questions and requests. Yours aye,  Buaidh  00:26, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've got no particular plan :) Just providing a venue. All I know about Wikipedia beyond basic user stuff is what I've learned editing it since 2009. Are we spozed to have a particular agenda for these get-togethers!? :) JacquesDelaguerre (talk) 14:38, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It would be nice if you could also take advantage of the occasion to chat a bit about whatever local educational/cultural outreach projects that the Colorado tusk of the WALRUS committee might pursue :)--Pharos (talk) 05:01, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Education and culture in Colorado? That might be revolutionary!  Buaidh  14:03, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm here at the DNote and just ordered a 16" cheese pizza! JacquesDelaguerre (talk) 20:52, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wiknic Denver meetup at the D-Note on June 25, 2011
Attending today at Denver Wiknic
... and others.
Sorry I couldn't make it. Hope you all are having a grand time. Vertigo700 (talk) 22:15, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good meeting. Thanks for the pizza, Jacques! The D-Note would be a lovely place if there weren't a band practicing or playing music - way too loud to hear the conversation for many folks.... ★NealMcB★ (talk) 21:28, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for coming. Yeah, it was not LOUD loud but still hard for eight people to chat all at the same time :) I'm trying to think of a very cool shady summer outdoor place for meets with wifi and refreshments. Denver Zoo? JacquesDelaguerre (talk) 23:52, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
