Tagged OTRS/VRT received for over 3 months. Upon reviewing the associated VRT ticket, I believe it is unlikely that permission will be confirmed. FASTILY 03:55, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- That is incorrect, I have an email from the owner of the copyright who was happy for the image to be used by Wikipedia. WCMemail 10:15, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- No, it isn't. There are two outstanding issues with this ticket: a) VRT cannot accept forwarded statements, and b) the copyright holder never stated the license to publish the image under. As such, the ticket is invalid. Also, I sent a followup email with instructions to you via VRT on 2021-10-06 (3 months ago!), and you never responded. -FASTILY 11:56, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- To correct you, the copyright owner authorised use on wikipedia in accordance with the correct licensing terms back in November 2007, I fowarded a copy of this back in 2007. For reasons I don't entirely understand this was flagged as a problem 13 years later and you raised a ticket. And whilst you may have sent me an email, that doesn't mean I received it. Perhaps I should add some exclamation marks to highlight that point? WCMemail 12:35, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- To be clear, I've opened this FfD in my capacity as a member of VRT. I've already explained to you why this ticket is invalid, and I won't be repeating myself. If you can't accept the result, then that's 100% on you. -FASTILY 12:41, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- Actually you haven't explained it in a manner that I have understood and as I have already pointed out to you never received the emailed instructions you claim to have sent. Whether they were swallowed by a SPAM filter or you perhaps forgot, I never got them. Will it help if I add exclamation points to emphasise the point? I have contacted the copyright owner by email again, I've also tried to reach out on their Twitter account. So your statement that it is unlikely that permission will be confirmed is perhaps a little premature. And as it happens when you opened this FfD, you didn't provided the background information to this, I have only expanded on it. WCMemail 18:03, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- If you can get the copyright holder to give their WP:CONSENT, then great. You should explain to them though that "for Wikipedia use only", "for non-commercial use only", "for educational use only", etc. types of restrictions are too restrictive for Wikipedia's purposes. If you can get them to choice one of the licenses listed at c:COM:CC, then things should be fine. You might also want to point out c:COM:LRV to them as well. Finally, if the uploader chooses a Creative Commons license that Wikipedia accepts, then they are still claiming copyright ownership over the photo and can at least require that they be attributed whenever this version of the photo is reused; on the other hand, if they release the photo under a public domain license, then they are basically giving up any copyright claim they have over the photo and anyone can use as they please without even saying where they got the photo from. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:12, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- I've heard back from the copyright holder and they're happy to help out. I could really do with someone giving me friendly advice on how to get this fixed, bearing in mind English is not their first language is there an easy guide to this? WCMemail 15:37, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not a WP:VRT volunteer (Fastily is though), but what I believe needs to be done is that a VRT volunteer needs some formal way to verify the copyright holder's intent. There are couple of ways to do this explained here, here and here. Those links are to c:Commons:Volunteer Response Team and that page is worded for images uploaded to Commons, but the same should also apply, in principle, to images locally to uploaded Wikipedia. One thing about Commons pages is that many of them are available in languages other than English because Commons is a global project, whereas English Wikipedia is only local. So, you can find some examples non-English versions of WP:CONSENT (the type of email that VRT needs to verify), at the the top of c:COM:CONSENT. So, if the copyright holder is a native Spanish speaker, then maybe they will find c:Template:Email templates/Consent/es helpful. They should use some sort of "official" emailing address if they have one and they should understand that they are agreeing to c:Commons:Licencias. They need to be the one to send the email because VRT doesn't really accept emails forwarded via third-parties. There are several different types of licenses they can choose from and these are explained a bit more in detail at c:Commons:Marcas de derechos de autor de Creative Commons and s:Help:Copyright tags. Creative Commons also has non-English versions of many of the more commonly used licenses it offers like this Spanish language one for CC-by-sa-3.0. Since most of the acceptable license templates seem to follow a standardized format (there just in languages other than English), non-English licenses should be no problem. VRT is also global; so, non-English emails should be OK as well. Finally, I understand this may be frustrating, but I don't believe anything posted above has been unfriendly. Copyrighted content needs to be uploaded under acceptable licenses and copyright holder consent needs to be verified. It doesn't really matter how long ago the file was uploaded (except in some certain cases for files uploaded prior to the VRT system's establishment). If there are doubts, copyright holder consent needs to be VRT verified. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:29, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

- File:Good Times bw A Warm Summer Night by Chic US 7-inch single.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by George Ho ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
I uploaded this cover art intentionally to replace one of non-US sleeves. However, I'm unsure whether the whole cover art complies with NFCC, i.e. both irreplaceable and contextually significant. I also uploaded one portion of another US release, which lacked a picture sleeve, in Commons. Furthermore, this 7-inch cover art is similar to the parent album Risqué but with two song titles under the band's name. A portion of the 12-inch US release, ineligible for copyright, may be minimal enough to use. I can stand corrected, nonetheless. George Ho (talk) 08:52, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Already published all over the internet, no permission from the photographer or evidence of suitable licencing, no fair-use rationale (nor could this meet WP:NFCCP #1). WP:F6 speedy tag has been removed. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:35, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- Delete - Based on user name, the uploader is the subject of the photo and this does not look like a selfie. VRT confirmation of licensing would be required. -- Whpq (talk) 14:00, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

- File:Sarah Everard CCTV 3 March 2021.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Srodgers1701 ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
The usage rationale for this image is "for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of their biographical article". We use the (also non-free) image File:Sarah Everard.jpg in the infobox, and the rationale for that is identical to this one. The relevant policy (WP:FUC) says "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information". Given that the rationale for both of these images is to visually identify the subject, the infobox one does this better and we do not need two to do the same job. The CCTV image isn't even contextually the best one we could use – CCTV from the passing vehicle(s), while lower quality, would be better under WP:NFCCP point 8 (Contextual significance) – but that is a different matter. MIDI (talk) 11:47, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- Delete we definitely don't need two non-free articles. It's questionable if we even need one, seeing as this isn't a biographical article (but an article about the event). Joseph2302 (talk) 17:29, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Currently used in Sunday Bloody Sunday and U2 Live at Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky. The respective captions may explain the image well, but I'm uncertain whether the screenshot itself helps much besides identifying itself from a recorded performance. I can see, in front of audience, someone holding up a white flag while Bono was still singing. Probably not contextually significant enough to meet WP:NFCC#8, but I can stand corrected. No evidence uploader is the copyright holder. Even assuming the uploader did write this novel, the rights to the cover is typically held by the publisher rather than the book's author. Image is not used anywhere. Ixfd64 (talk) 18:07, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

- File:Ceremony-2-81-armor-regiment.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Hampton7c ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
This non-free image is not needed to understand the history of the regiment. the image itself is not the subject of significant sourced commentary and its removal does not detract from a reader's understanding of the article. Fails WP:NFCC#8. However, the image may actually be PD if the publication it is from is part of the US military. See this source article. The footer does carry a copyright notice. But the about page would indicate it is published by the Fort Knox Public Affairs Office which seems to indicate it is US military. Whpq (talk) 18:25, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- Convert to {{PD-USGov-Military}}. Whpq's assessment appears to be correct, especially since this is listed on army.mil. ✗plicit 00:21, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

- Hey, Thanks for notifying me. I was aware that the image had "Received" on it, however, from looking at the website and the manner in which they post pictures in their articles, I saw that images without a watermark were also used. This for me was an indicator that perhaps they received the photo and were given full authority to publish it into Creative Commons. Likewise, images without the watermark are not permissible to be used in creative commons. If it does breach the licensing I'm happy to remove it. -- Ali313korosh (talk) 23:36, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
