The result of the discussion was: Delete. While the lack of a copyright notice on the plaque indicates that {{PD-US-no notice}} applies, the photo seems to be copyrighted or at least questionable as well Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:39, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:PCV-ST plaque in honor of Frederick H. Ecker.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by MuzikJunky ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Plaque placed on private property (Peter Cooper Village-Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan, New York City) in 1947 is covered by copyright protection Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:46, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unfortunately, that is not the case. Merely being posted in a publoic or semi-public place is not sufficient to remove the copyright protection provided to the plaque and, of course, the entire concept of copyright means the right to control making copies of the intellectual property in question. There's no question that the plaque was placed by the "Field Unit of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company", which therefore owns the rights, and there's no doubt that PCV-ST -- although a very large development -- is private property and not public space, so there's no question that nothing in the circumstances of the plaque's placement revokes the copyright. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:05, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would be PD-Simple if it said, for instance "Peter Cooper Village- Stuyvesant Town" with the date, but please read the text of the plaque, which is listed in the image's information: I don;t believe it qualifies as PD-simple. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:36, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

TO THE HONOR OF FREDERICK H. ECKER

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY

WHO WITH THE VISION OF EXPERIENCE AND THE ENERGY OF YOUTH CONCEIVED AND BROUGHT INTO BEING THIS PROJECT, AND OTHERS LIKE IT THAT FAMILIES OF MODERATE MEANS MIGHT LIVE IN HEALTH, COMFORT AND DIGNITY IN PARKLIKE COMMUNITIES, AND THAT A PATTERN MIGHT BE SET OF PRIVATE ENTERPRISE PRODUCTIVELY DEVOTED TO PUBLIC SERVICE

THIS PLAQUE WAS APRECTIONATELY INSCRIBED AND IS HERE PLACED ON THE OCCASION OF

HIS EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY

Maybe. How about {{PD-US-no notice}} though? ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 05:53, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Could be, I can't recall when the requirement for a copyright notice was dropped - someone here will, I'm sure. There's another problem, though, and that is that MuzikJunky uploaded the image as his "own work", but TinEye returns 6 other results, some with multiple examples, dating from 2006 to 2013, all obviously the same image with the exact same framing but slightly different color presentation. This throws significant doubt on whether MuzikJunky actually took the shot he posted, as opposed to altering the color and perhaps improving the visibility. Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:09, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: The photograph is a copyright violation, originally from The New York Times as can be seen in the above link. However, if someone wanted to take their own photograph, that would not have restrictions. As {{PD-US-no notice}} describes, works published between 1923 and 1977 without a copyright notice are in the Public Domain. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 06:19, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See the file talk page for a little information here. Per the guideline on this matter even though the US does not have copyright relations with Iran, it is longstanding Wikipedia policy to respect the copyright law of other nations, even if these do not have official copyright relations with the United States. Keeping this image goes directly against that guideline. Majora (talk) 06:26, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm linking to them on a revision page. Moderators have repeatedly blocked my edits so I just directly link to the revision page from my website. See the talk page for my game. I'd like to use them because I feel they are relevant and necessary to accurately portray the game and to help undo the damage that the current entry has done. I believe it's one of those situations where the inaccurate Wikipedia page has existed for long enough to shape what people believe about the game and so now it's very difficult to change.Robert Pelloni (talk) 11:04, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that moderators reverting your changes is not a valid reason to keep the files on Wikipedia. As previously stated, Wikipedia is not a webhost for unused images. Regards, FASTILY 09:00, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: That discussion has been stale since April 2016. Skeptical anything will change if it continues given the uploader's COI issues. -FASTILY 20:54, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move all three to Commons. There is plenty of encyclopedic use for almost all video game footage. It can illustrate other game concepts if the footage is superfluous for the article itself. If we have confirmation of the author's identity and ownership of copyright for these videos, WPVG could certainly use them. czar 10:07, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
