There is a rename request on this file, but before processing that one I have doubts that this logo meets NFCC: The use rationale incorrectly claims the logo is used in the infobox (it isn't, a newer logo is used there) and as a former logo without any critical discussion or context it might not meet WP:NFCC#8 as its absence may not harm the understanding of the article topic. - File:Screen shot Lockheed P2V Harpoon.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Bzuk ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Tagged as PD-self but indicates the image is a screenshot. When I left a message for the uploader requesting clarification, this note was added indicating that it is a screenshot of "the 'lost' film 'Air Cadets' (1944)" and that the uploader has "received rights from the NFB to use the film fragments." In that case, the self-work tag is incorrect, and we would need an OTRS release by NFB to confirm permissions. Nick—Contact/Contribs 17:24, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
- Already sent an Email to the NFB coordinator who sent the image in order to clarify the status of the image. She indicted free access on our phone call but I do need an email to back that up. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 19:31, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Bill,
Since this is a film from the 1940s, this is not a problem. You should write that the images are screenshots from the film.

- Delete. Ok so it's clearly not PD-self. It's from Air Cadets (film) and the other films at Canada Carries On contain non-free licenses for the posters at least. However this isn't a poster or identifying the movies because its usage is just decoration. I'd say it's still non-free but fair use replaceable because we have File:PV-2 NAN9-2-45.jpg among others at Lockheed Ventura, the only usage. This isn't being used on the film but only to show the particular plane with particular markings. Absent a change in licensing that deals better with orphaned works, I think it's still licensed there and the text above isn't clear enough to me. Maybe someone at OTRS could handle it but is it this really needed? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:21, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

While this file probably doesn't have URAA issues in light of commons:Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#More_URAA_questions..., it was pointed out in that discussion that the work in the background may be copyrighted. If it's an issue, it can probably be solved by cropping the image. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:37, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: In 2009, someone attributed the photo to Ture Sjolander apparently on the basis of a OTRS ticket [2], but on the source page, there is a note from 2012 by Ture Sjolander himself attributing the photo to Folke Hellberg (for the newspaper Dagens Nyheter). It is likely that the 2012 note is a correction and takes precedence over the 2009 note. If so, it could be useful to write a note in the OTRS archives mentioning the 2012 precision. Could a OTRS member please look at this? -- Asclepias (talk) 22:44, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Comment. I have added a note to the OTRS file. -- Rrburke (talk) 12:00, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
- This seems to be unfree at least in the source country. In March 1976, a play was performed at a theatre in Sweden. Later in 1976, someone published music, and used a photo of people in front of the play's scenography as cover illustration for the music. The scenographer sued, and in 1981, the Swedish supreme court ruled that the cover illustration constituted a copy of the scenography and thus violated the scenographer's copyright.[3] I'd assume that the same is true about the background on this photograph: it's unfree in the source country. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:28, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

- User:Steel1943, why are you moving around a lot of requests? It doesn't solve the problem (there are too few admins active in the file area); it just makes it more difficult to follow discussions when they suddenly end up on another page. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:13, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- Now that WP:PUF is closed, links to it are being removed from templates that direct readers and editors there, possibly reducing the amount of exposure PUF gets. A backlog is a backlog wherever it is, and I'm ensuring that applicable links to the discussion are updated when the relisted occurs. Steel1943 (talk) 23:26, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Stefan2: Agreed, it looks to be an attempt at relisting a discussion but since the old board has been closed, it's been moved to FFD. It seems appropriate until the cross-backlog is cleared up. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:28, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Ricky81682: Similar actions such as me relisting this discussion cross-board were taken by editors such as myself and Stefan2 when WP:NFCR was being closed and the discussions moved to WP:FFD. In addition to this, I also relisted the discussion since when I relisted it, I did not think consensus was clear yet. I mean, after your comment, it may still be a bit unclear if the image is free in the United States or requires fair use in the United States. Steel1943 (talk) 23:38, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Steel1943:. Yes, I agree with you on all accounts. I think fair use is appropriate in this case as the more conservative approach. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:45, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- Seems to be unfree in the source country but since the individual passed away in 2008, I think it would be an appropriate non-free fairuse here, perhaps provided that the sides are cut out so that only the person's face is in focus. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:28, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fair use would not be justified, image is replaceable with this free image on commons. --LukeSurl t c 15:49, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

- Um, are we talking about this file or the background file? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:13, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
- The file includes the background image. It's no different than whether a picture of me while a TV show is playing in the background is at issue. The picture of me for my page is one thing, the background for it is another. Merging the two is a different matter. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:30, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
