January 12

Category:Albin Kurti

Nominator's rationale: This literally has no reason to be a category. The name of it is the same of its only article.

Category:Softball teams in Denmark

Nominator's rationale: Merge per WP:NARROW. Only contains 1 team article. –Aidan721 (talk) 22:12, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Softball competitions in the United Kingdom

Nominator's rationale: Not useful for navigation. Merge per WP:NARROW. The lone article is already properly categorized in the other 2 parents. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:59, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:International softball competitions hosted by Peru

Nominator's rationale: Not a useful category. There is no Category:Softball in Peru tree. Merge per WP:NARROW. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:51, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Guatemalan softball players

Nominator's rationale: The lone biography is already categorized under the parent categories. Delete per WP:NARROW. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:45, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:1712 murders in Asia

Nominator's rationale: Not useful for navigation. Merge/delete per WP:NARROW. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:36, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Chicas Almodóvar

Nominator's rationale: A key issue with this category is that it lies in the liminal ambiguity between WP:NONDEFINING and WP:OCASSOC. The strong association of some actresses with the director cannot be adequately dealt with in the category system insofar the problem with something being "associated" with something else, is that it can be a #SUBJECTIVE and vague determination, and it certainly does not suffice with a WP:TRIVIALCAT condition such as a couple of collaborations. In addition, category name (translated 'Almodóvar Girls') displays a sexist slant. Asqueladd (talk) 20:21, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete As category creator. NONDEFINING can be a concern, though it is 'a thing', insofar that you can google either the Spanish or direct English translations and will get many results at least as far back as 2002 (side note: there is also nothing sexist about the term and feel the nom should remove that aspersion). I lean to delete because I think the topic can/should be better handled in a listicle format, though it may be useful for the category to persist until such is created. Category:Emirati rabbis

Nominator's rationale: People who are Emirati (citizens of the United Arab Emirates) can not legally be recognized as Jews, as the law requires all citizens to be Muslim; all the people under this category are not Emiratis, they are Jews of other nationalities simply residing in the country. You can not gain citizenship through living there long enough or being born there (like the US for example). Sources: 1 2 3 4. I am voting to rename this category to reflect this. jolielover♥talk 17:20, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Emirati Jews

Nominator's rationale: People who are Emirati (citizens of the United Arab Emirates) can not legally be recognized as Jews, as the law requires all citizens to be Muslim; all the people under this category are not Emiratis, they are Jews of other nationalities simply residing in the country. You can not gain citizenship through living there long enough or being born there (like the US for example). Sources: 1 2 3 4. There is a category called Category:Jews and Judaism in the United Arab Emirates, hence why I am voting to delete this category rather than rename it. jolielover♥talk 17:20, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ukrainian sportspeople killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Convert Category:Ukrainian sportspeople killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine to article Sportspeople killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Nominator's rationale: Shoft be listified. Non-defining Per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_May_18#Category:Sportspeople_who_died_in_wars SMasonGarrison 15:46, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Births by year

Nominator's rationale: merge, these are isolated single-article categories, this is not helpful for navigation. We do not even parent year categories before 700 BC and we do not have decade categories before 800 BC. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:55, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Suspension bridges in the Falkland Islands

Nominator's rationale: Single entry; with no other likely. Article can be moved to parent categories. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:35, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from Kamenický Šenov

Nominator's rationale: Category with just two entries. Lost in Quebec (talk) 10:44, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Series of books

Nominator's rationale: Main article for this category is book series, where series of books redirects. Parent category is Category:Literary series. Child categories include various 'something' series, like Category:Anthology series or Category:Manga series. Seems pretty straightforward. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:50, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Petrosina

Nominator's rationale: According to WoRMS, the suborder Petrosina has been abandoned as polyphyletic. jlwoodwa (talk) 05:23, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:18th century in Tahiti

Nominator's rationale: Not useful for navigation. WP:NARROW. Contains only one article which is already categorized under Category:1769 in Oceania. –Aidan721 (talk) 05:13, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Franklin military family

Nominator's rationale: This is the only family category with "military family" at the end. We've been renaming categories of Category:Families by occupation to always put the occupation in parentheses at the end. This seems like it doesn't need to be an exception. Mike Selinker (talk) 05:06, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:1706 murders in Africa

Nominator's rationale: Not useful for navigation. Merge/delete per WP:NARROW. –Aidan721 (talk) 04:29, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Hart wrestling family books

Nominator's rationale: This category is mostly redirects, which I suggest removing from this category, and then upmerging the five remaining articles to Category:Professional wrestling books and either Category:Hart wrestling family or the rename to Category:Hart family (professional wrestling) nominated below. Mike Selinker (talk) 04:36, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Professional wrestling families

Nominator's rationale: Per this discussion, which renamed Category:Alvarado wrestling family to Category:Alvarado family (professional wrestling), as well as Category:Gutiérrez family (professional wrestling) and Category:Knight family (professional wrestling). This rename makes it match all other families which require disambiguation by sport and also specifies the type of wrestling. As for Category:Hart wrestling family members, as important as this family is to wrestling, I don't think a separate category is required for its members, as no other wrestling family has such a thing. Mike Selinker (talk) 04:18, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP Puerto Rico redundant categories

Nominator's rationale: More redundant categories; all (e.g.) Templates are of NA-importance to WP:WPPR. Delete all of them. BlasterOfHouses (HouseBlaster's alt • talk • he/they) 04:06, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens women's tennis venues

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NARROWCAT and WP:OVERLAPCAT. Categories contain just 2 articles and 3 redirects. User:Namiba 02:28, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Kardashian family and Category:Jenner family

Nominator's rationale: The presence of the category loop and the overlapping contents suggest that the topics are the same. One subcategory in common is Category:Television shows related to the Kardashian–Jenner family. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:16, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ōtori taisha

Nominator's rationale: Category loop that contains only the main article Ōtori taisha (Ōtori-zukuri is a redirect); and Nan'yō Shrine, which does not mention either. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:06, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Traitors in history

Nominator's rationale: WP:BLPCRIME, people should be in Category:People convicted of treason if they were convicted. Forms a category loop with Category:Defectors. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:03, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Muay Thai practitioners

Nominator's rationale: Why is there only a single article in this category tree? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:57, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American Indian Wars

Nominator's rationale: Duplicate category that forms a category loop. The main article is titled American Indian Wars, but the latter matches other subcategories of Category:Wars by peoples involved. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:41, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Circum-Caribbean tribes

Nominator's rationale: There is no main article about the "Circum-Carribean". Is this a duplicate? They do form a category loop. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:38, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete (or maybe merge), it seems to be based on an outdated classification and there is no main article about it. We do have Isthmo-Colombian Area but this excludes the Caribbean. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:07, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Both "Circum-Caribbean tribes" and "Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean" are purely geographic constructs, with no historical or cultural basis. "Circum-Caribbean" may have a slightly broader scope than "Caribbean", but I think I prefer "Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean" over "Circum-Caribbean tribes" as the name for the category. - Donald Albury 13:37, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Orders of South Africa

Nominator's rationale: Intermediate levels with only one article (and in one case, a file). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:25, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Vital statistics (government records)

Nominator's rationale: Redundant categories that form a category loop. I am also proposing to merge their eponymous articles for the same reason. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:16, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
