- The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:18, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:DJs from Naples to Category:Musicians from Naples and Category:Italian DJs
- Nominator's rationale: Only 1. Not an established tree. Rathfelder (talk) 23:53, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:22, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of BlyatPutin
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of TryToBeFunny. Subcat Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of BlyatPutin also merged. As GeneralNotability said, mergers like these are probably handled more quickly and simply by the SPI team. (non-admin closure) --Trialpears (talk) 09:24, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Same user, no need for 2 subcategories 4thfile4thrank (talk) 19:08, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Venue? @Good Olfactory and MER-C: Is CFD the right venue for a sockpuppet category? - RevelationDirect (talk) 04:04, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- RevelationDirect, I know CFD has dealt with them before, though I haven't seen one here in quite some time. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:17, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Merge I honestly don't know how to verify this claim but, since 4thfile4thrank works heavily with vandalism issues, I'll assume this is valid unless there is an objection. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:39, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- @RevelationDirect: I nominated this as they are both the same person, CU confirmed, and two categories confuse people. 4thfile4thrank (talk) 13:01, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Shouldn't we leave a redirect? Marcocapelle (talk) 20:35, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe, but we shouldn't create too many pages on one LTA, as that gives them the attention they want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4thfile4thrank (talk • contribs) 15:04, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

- Merge — Although avoidance techniques have improved over time, once two separate violators are confirmed to be the same, they should be merged to aid future detection. Also, to kill the thrill.
William Allen Simpson (talk) 14:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC) - If y'all want to deduplicate sockpuppet categories, all you had to do was ask an admin or SPI clerk to retag them and then C1 the category. GeneralNotability (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Category:Male suicide bombers
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:17, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Male suicide bombers to Category:Suicide bombers
- Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCEGRS, there is no indication that 'male suicide bombers' is a notable topic in its own right. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge Probably created to balance the female category; which seems to indicate that female suicide bomber is a notable concept or is just sufficiently coverage-worthy because of its rarity that draws media attention. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:29, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge Not a notable topic on its own. Dimadick (talk) 16:46, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge. Per WP:CATGENDER, a category for a minority gender does not need to be balanced by a mirror category for the majority gender. Place Clichy (talk) 16:38, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Unconfirmed planets of the Gliese 581 system
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: everyone agrees that the category should be deleted. There were differing views on the appropriate merge target for the articles in it and a consensus was not really reached. I am defaulting to merging to all three parents, Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system, Category:Exoplanets in the habitable zone and Category:Exoplanet candidates. If this is incorrect for any of the articles, the wrong categories can be removed. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:43, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose deleting Category:Unconfirmed planets of the Gliese 581 system
- Nonimator's rationale: Useless category, no other planetary systems have categories for unconfirmed planets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kepler-1229b (talk • contribs)
- Merge per WP:SMALLCAT probably to Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system or else to that category's parent categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge per Marcocapelle. Also merge Category:Confirmed planets of the Gliese 581 system, which has the same problem. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 09:57, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge all Gliese 581-related articles and categories to the Category:Gliese 581 category. Praemonitus (talk) 17:16, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- No, don't bypass Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system unless also merging to its other parents Category:Exoplanets in the Gliese Catalog and Category:Exoplanets detected by radial velocity – unless you have a rationale for removing the contents from those hierarchies. – Fayenatic London 21:34, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge to all parents Category:Planets of the Gliese 581 system, Category:Exoplanets in the habitable zone and Category:Exoplanet candidates, as no-one has stated here that the other parents are incorrect. – Fayenatic London 21:34, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

- Useless category, only one article in category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kepler-1229b (talk • contribs)
- Delete per WP:SMALLCAT, only one article. There is no need to merge because its only article is already in parent Category:Unconfirmed planets of the Gliese 581 system which is nominated above. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Propose deleting Category:Suicides by city
- Propose manually merge Category:Suicides in London to Category:Suicides in England - and manually merge the 2 suicide articles and the subcategory to Category:Deaths by person in London
- Propose manually merge Category:Suicides in Milan to Category:Suicides in Italy
- Propose manually merge Category:Suicides in Moscow to Category:Suicides in Russia
- Propose manually merge Category:Suicides in New York City to Category:Suicides in New York (state) - and manually merge 3 articles and the subcategories to Category:Deaths by person in New York City
- Propose manually merge Category:Suicides in Tokyo to Category:Suicides in Japan
- Nominator's rationale: delete/merge, trivial intersection between death and location. The merge need to take place manually because often the articles will already be in another subcategory of the merge target. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:54, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Keep certainly London and New York, bith of which are well populated. Merger will lead to categories so large as to hinder (not aid) navigation. Populate the rest if possible. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge the small categories (under 5 or so articles) with the geographically larger ones; for the large ones, re-parent them under the geographically larger one. That will aid navigation as categories with hundreds of entries ought to be broken down. Here, compliant geography is convenient and the NYC one is pretty well (de-)populated already. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Keep There is scope for expansion in the case of major cities. Dimadick (talk) 16:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Amazon Prime Video drafts to Category:Prime Video drafts
- Nominator's rationale: Perhaps the draft could be renamed as the main page is just Prime Video Starzoner (talk) 14:10, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Rename to align with Prime Video. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Penal system in Christmas Island (no merge needed, subcat is already in the organizations tree)
- Propose merging Category:Politics of Christmas Island to Category:Christmas Island
- Propose merging Category:Educational organisations based in Christmas Island to Category:Organisations based in Christmas Island by subject
- Propose deleting Category:Entertainment venues in Christmas Island (no merge needed, subcat is already in the buildings and structures tree)

- Propose merging Category:Aviation in Christmas Island to Category:Transport in Christmas Island
- Propose merging Category:Transport infrastructure in Christmas Island to Category:Transport in Christmas Island
- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layers that each do not contain any article and just a single subcategory. That makes it a very complicated category tree for a tiny island. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:44, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Support All I'm open to small cats to complete a set for actual articles but, since these contain subcategories that are already under Category:Categories by state or territory of Australia, these intermediate layers don't aid navigation. - RevelationDirect (talk) 13:40, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

- Merge for Now While these places have presumably had more than five mayors, most would be non-notable. No objection to recreating any that exceed expectations and get up to 5+ articles. - RevelationDirect (talk) 13:22, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Trivial intersection. No notable WP:DEFINING link between the occupation and the manner of death. Not expected as a professional qualification. There may have been many years between the occupation and the death, making the link even weaker.
- Note: Sources about the death of a person will often discuss both their occupation and their cause of death. This doesn't make this intersection any more notable than a combination with other aspects often discussed in such notices, such as their number of children.
- See also: related rationale about suicides by occupation:

- Support in principle as trivial intersections, but merge Category:Murdered Algerian musicians to Category:Algerian murder victims etc. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:07, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Dual Upmerge per Marcocapelle. The intersection is indeed trivial but we don't want to inadavertantly remove them from the murder by country cats. - RevelationDirect (talk) 13:38, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

- Initial reaction withdrawn after discussion below. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:35, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Keep. Merchant court is the translation of Russian term Gostiny dvor (which refers to a particular type of structure characteristic of Imperial Russia). Ghirla-трёп- 12:18, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Speedy Rename per WP:C2D The main article Gostiny dvor so I assume the plural for a set category would be Category:Gostiny dvors with an "s" (but feel free to correct my non-existent Russian). No objection to keeping the current category name as a redirect. - RevelationDirect (talk) 13:34, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- FWIW, the Russian category (which I have just linked) is ru:Категория:Гостиные дворы; Google Translate transliterates the singular as Gostinyy dvor and the plural as Gostinyye dvory. – Fayenatic London 10:43, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- I have no objection to a merge if that's the consensus. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:30, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Shopping malls in Russia; a Gostiny dvor is not qualitatively different than a shopping mall - just using a literal translation of the Russian rather than the normal English equivalent of the concept. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:39, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

- Comment many of its parents are 2020 specific categories. Also, there is racial unrest virtually every year in the US and it's continual or continuous (and many of the sources in the articles say just that), so that begs the question why not just separate each incident by the year in which it occurred rather than trying to shoe-horn only those within a 2-year period? Or do reliable sources say that magically there was no racial unrest in the US in 2019 that dribbled over into 2020, and into 2021, etc. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:43, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Clearly there was a lot of special notability in the unrest that occurred in 2020 and 2021 that resulted in said unrest having an article of its own. In regards to the 2019 unrest, I'd call that an overblown assumption, but it does appear that way. Love of Corey (talk) 00:51, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

- When foreign leaders visit the Myanmar (formerly Burma), or vice versa, the Thiri Thudhamma Thingaha is given out as souvenir to commemorate the visit. Marshall Josip Broz Tito, Emperor Haile Selassie, and Premier Zhou Enlai are not remotely defined by this award. (The only Burmese/Myanma people in this category are the Presidents of Myanmar who are already well categorized under Category:Presidents of Myanmar) There is already a list right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Background In the past, we've deleted dozens of similar categories for high ranking visitors which are listed right here. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:09, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Delete This is a total overcategorization by award. One of the people in this category Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma is in 74 categories, which run to 13 lines of categories (a lot of them have fairly long names). At least 15 of them are award categories. This is extreme overcategoization.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

- Propose Deleting Category:Freemen of the City of Kimberley
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD) and WP:V (WP:RS)
- The Freedom of the City of Kimberley is an award from Kimberley, South Africa that is obscure:
- "Freemen of the City of Kimberley" in Google gets 18 results, all of which are Wikipedia related
- The closest thing I found searching for "Freedom of the City of Kimberley" was an article about someone who received a different city's award which was reported in the Kimberley newspaper.
- The same editor who created this category also wrote two biography articles (1 and 2) and they do mention the award prominently, citing an offline newsletter of a local historical society. The rest of the articles mention the award in passing or not at all so it doesn't seem to be generally defining though. I copied the current category contents right here so no work is lost if anyone wants to find reliable sources to establish notability in order to create a main article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:03, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
