Coldplay unreleased songs
Are you really sure they need such a page? I mean, I haven't found that many sources. Maybe putting it as a section in the song list should be enough? GustavoCza (talk) 06:59, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- GustavoCza The reason I separated them in the first place was so the list could become featured; it would have never passed FLC with those there. I would prefer to keep them separated. I actually just checked it out for the first time yesterday since I created it and it hasn't been kept up that much, which I know would soil the song page if it got merged. Another editor convinced me to add Radiohead's unreleased songs to their song list, but the difference there is they are all reliably sourced. As far as I know that's not the case for CP, so I'd prefer they be separated; at least until that happens. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 13:47, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Oh well, that makes sense. I'm thinking about making a smaller version of the list in my sandbox and nominate the article for deletion now, what do you think? There's just not enough sources. And hey, could you check out their main article? I want to nominate it for Featured in a few months. I reworked or created everything on it except for the History section, that one I will wait to remake during my vacations. GustavoCza (talk) 16:34, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- GustavoCza That's totally up to you! If you're going to go for FAC I would highly suggest nominating it for a peer review, as that's normally pretty helpful when it comes to that. Editors are a lot more lenient there whereas at FAC the expectation is it's ~90% ready to go. Plus, if you're not going to FAC for a few months, that'll give you plenty of time for others to respond at PR. Lmk if you do and I'd be happy to take a more in-depth look. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:06, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Just nominated the list for deletion. I'll be revisiting some sources and I think we can include the unreleased songs backed by reliable sources such as ASCAP and the band's wesbite (for "Famous Old Painters"). That should be good right? --GustavoCza (talk) 00:00, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- GustavoCza Probably. Do they have any books written on them yet or is it too early? – zmbro (talk) (cont) 00:20, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- There's a few, one got used in the references if I'm not mistaken. I'll check it out. --GustavoCza (talk) 00:27, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

low
hello, zmbro! i had a quick question regarding this blurb for this article. i noticed that the article Hérouville-en-Vexin, linked from the blurb, is currently a stub with one sentence of prose. as links to articles of this quality are generally not posted to the main page, do you think it would be appropriate to substitute the phrase "Hérouville's Château d'Hérouville" with something along the lines of "Château d'Hérouville in northern France", "Château d'Hérouville near Paris", or "Château d'Hérouville in the Paris metropolitan area"? there is a link to the commune in the first sentence of the article on the château, so i believe readers interested enough in the location are still likely to find the article. dying (talk) 15:47, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- dying Hi there! I'd be perfectly fine "Château d'Hérouville in northern France" as that's more in line with the geographic region. Going along with that, I was also wondering if we could add "Grounded in art rock and experimental rock, Low features Bowie's first explorations in electronic and ambient styles."? as the blurp gives no indication of what the musical style is, which I think is very necessary for this album. Thanks! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 15:51, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- oh, that would be a good addition to the blurb. however, because the tfa coordinators try to keep the blurbs at 1025 or fewer characters in length, i think some less important details should be removed to keep the blurb within the character limit. do you have a preference regarding what to remove? offhand, i would suggest removing "from either RCA or Bowie" and ", which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart,", and adding your proposal as the blurb's second sentence. dying (talk) 17:03, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- dying Yes I would remove ", which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart," at the least. Even then, simply say "the album reached number two in the UK and number eleven in the US." It seems whoever wrote it didn't bother with the lead's second para and kept the majority of the third intact for some reason, considering that's the aspect I'm positive readers would care about the least. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:09, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Also, I find the use of the 2002 image random. Why can't we use this one from 1978, which is actually on the page and dates to the Berlin era? – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:12, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- that seems like a reasonable image to feature, similar to how the earlier blurb for your fac nomination the idiot uses a tour image from around the time the album was released. i am admittedly unfamiliar with how images for blurbs are selected, but have been told that if i have any image suggestions to make, it may be a good idea to raise them directly with the tfa coordinators. Jimfbleak was in charge of scheduling this month, and from this edit, appears to have also chosen the image for the blurb.by the way, for future reference, fac nominators are generally welcome to edit tfa blurbs before they appear on the main page, since, from what i understand, the blurb is basically a space for nominators to showcase the article they worked on, so there is significant deference to the nominator regarding what they want to include there. blurbs are fully protected via cascading protection the day before they show up on the main page, but administrators tend to fulfill any edit requests from nominators at wp:errors.i had noticed the hérouville stub issue when i reviewed the blurb about a week ago, but admittedly forgot to raise it with you earlier, so will be taking this edit request to wp:errors myself. dying (talk) 19:58, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- the blurb text has been updated, courtesy of Stephen. thanks, zmbro! dying (talk) 02:55, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article "about... David Bowie's 1977 album Low, an album widely considered his greatest and with good reason. Side one is full of incomplete songs while side two is full of ambient pieces. Sometimes compared to Radiohead's Kid A, it's easy to understand why critical reception was so divided initially (though not commercially, to the label's surprise). Nevertheless, the influence this album left was almost immediate. Without this album, we wouldn't have Joy Division or the majority of post-punk. In my opinion, this album really is an experience."! - May it be a high! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:55, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt Thanks for the kind words Gerda! :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 13:38, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
Great work again on Low. Always a treat to see something you've worked so hard on appear on the front page. Also, I'm sure plenty of people are listening to his music for the first time today because of you. Tkbrett (✉) 15:08, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

David Bowie studioalbum listing
I think you can't "personally" include an album marked as a soundtrack contribution to his studioalbums. No matter how much you like it. Isn't it weird people consider it as a studioalbum? It was never meant to be one — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isayhellogoodbye77200 (talk • contribs) 12:02, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Isayhellogoodbye77200 Are you talking about Buddha? Well for one I didn't "personally" include it, rather I "reclassified" it based on what his biographers, other articles and his own estate say as outlined here. That album is in a very weird position. Yes, it started off as a soundtrack project, but by its end it became its own thing. Only the title track appeared in the serial and the rest of the material is completely original that doesn't appear anywhere else but on that album. Its weird position in his discography is only due to the dismal marketing done by the label, which has been partially undone by the new 2007 artwork.
- As for "It was never meant to be one", that's just not true and entirely your opinion. Buddha is not in the same realm as Labyrinth and is a studio album in his discography. Also, I did not factor "how much I like it" into reclassifying it – I've actually only ever heard it once. Hope this helps. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:26, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi zmbro. I have noticed that you removed bonus tracks from the track listing in some articles on 22 September 2021 using "rm per discussions at WP:ALBUMS" (e.g. The Black Album (The Damned album) and The Gift (The Jam album)). At last...
Hi Zmbro, hope you're doing well. Do you remember this conversation we had two years ago? Since then you've done an amazing job on the Bowie albums (and several songs), and I'm very happy to see most of them at GA status now. Just wanted to mention that I am finally heading to the UK for the first time in four years, in a couple of weeks time, so I should be back in the British Library before the end of May, and the offer in that conversation still stands. I saw that JG66 also offered to provide info from Rock's Back Pages, so I wondered if there was anything still outstanding that you needed in terms of direct sourcing from old UK music mags, rather than the "second-hand" sourcing from Bowie biographies, which I assume is where you've had to get most of the original contemporary reviews. Richard3120 (talk) 01:48, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- Richard3120 Hey there Richard! Wow I can't believe it's already been two years since that convo. To answer your question, I'm actually now subscribed to both Rock's backpages and newspapers.com atm and have gotten quite a bit in terms of reviews, so I think I'm set for now. If you're able to find anything on Duran Duran from like '81–'84 I'd greatly appreciate it but other than that I think I'm all set. Thanks for bringing this back up and offering to help though :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 13:30, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- No problem, just wanted to know before I spend my limited time looking for something that you don't need. If you're now subscribed to both of those sites, then I might be asking you for help in the future!
- Anything in particular you wanted on Duran Duran? The first two albums are my favourites – I lost interest in the band from Seven and the Ragged Tiger onwards when Andy Taylor's rockist tendencies started to take over a bit. I see you've also been working on bringing the early Elvis Costello albums to GA... another artist I've thought about doing the same thing for. Richard3120 (talk) 20:57, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- 3120 Honestly anything on their debut, Rio or Seven would be appreciated (I intend to do at least those). And yes I changed it up a bit doing Costello's first three. I heard "Red Shoes" on a playlist and thought 'yeah, that works' xD. Not sure if I'll do anymore of him atm as I got DD and a couple more Bowie stuff in mind first. And yes if you need any help with RB or newspapers.com I can help out :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 22:38, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do re: Duran Duran and let you know in a month or so. Costello's first three albums are easily my three favourites of his as well, that's why seeing them there piqued my interest. Richard3120 (talk) 01:57, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Zmbro, an update... so, I've been in the British Library the last couple of days, and got the reviews for all three albums from NME and Melody Maker, as well as one for Rio from The Guardian. I'm pretty sure the reviews from Record Mirror are all online, as is The Face's review of Rio (the library's collection of Sounds is almost complete, apart from missing the years 1981 to 1983, which is very inconvenient). So there's a good selection there to be able to expand the critical reception section of each album, for starters - I'll go back in a couple of weeks and quickly skim through the magazines to see if I can get any info on the albums from articles or interviews, and also if there are any legacy reviews of the 2003 or 2010 remasters in Q or Mojo.
- The question now is how to make this info available - I don't want to do a massive text dump onto your talk page, so maybe the best plan is for you or I to create a sandbox and put it all in there, and you can use whatever you want from it? Richard3120 (talk) 09:07, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Richard3120 Go ahead and add stuff on my second sandbox :-) again I can't tell you how much I appreciate you help! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 12:04, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Done. They're in three separate paragraphs at the end of the sandbox – use what you think is necessary and discard the rest. I'll see if I can find anything else when I'm there again in June. Richard3120 (talk) 16:36, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

So sorry, I've been back in Colombia for two months and not got round to updating you with my second visit to the Library, that I mentioned three posts above this one. Anyway, the Library's collection of Rolling Stone around the early 80s is extremely patchy, so it wasn't very useful. However, they do have an index book that lists all articles, reviews, etc. in RS over the years. So I can tell you that Rolling Stone never reviewed either Duran Duran or Rio at the time, so don't waste your time looking for them. The first Duran album they reviewed was Seven and the Ragged Tiger, issue 413, page 61, issue dated January 19, 1984, but that issue isn't in the British Library (a paragraph summary of Seven is also in the magazine's end-of-year round-up, issue 437/438, page 114, dated December 20, 1984). Just for info, they also reviewed Arena, Notorious and Liberty during the rest of the decade. There may be interviews or articles about the band from this time, but in their wisdom RS have indexed all article features by title, which is often some obscure pun or other wording totally unrelated to the artist in question, making it impossible to tell who any of the articles are about.
I also had a quick look in more recent magazines for reviews of the reissues in the early 00s, but there wasn't much. The best I found was this from Paul Elliott in Q, reviewing the reissues of the first and third albums: "The debut features the hits 'Planet Earth' and 'Girls on Film' amid much art-rock posturing, while Seven and the Ragged Tiger sees them getting funky on 'The Reflex' and 'Union of the Snake'. Naturally, it's all terribly glamorous." (Q, October 2003, page 127 – both albums three stars out of five). Doesn't really add anything much of note to the articles. Bowie wikiproject?
I was wondering if after we finish getting the Beatles albums to GA we could start a Bowie wikiproject. He’s probably notable enough and there are enough articles about him to make one worthy (weird wording there but I couldn’t think of any other word). I probably couldn’t expand much of his articles given that I don’t have any Bowie books, but I could help with copyediting and adding web sources. Speatle (talk to me) please ping me when replying to something I said. 15:44, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Isn't there already a WikiProject David Bowie? Tkbrett (✉) 16:21, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hahaha thanks Tk that made my day. In regards to your question Speatle, no I find absolutely no point in doing that. I don't believe individual WikiProjects are necessary especially these days. I've noticed most of them were created between 2006–2010 and saw tons of activity in that time (i.e. Beatles) but since then have all seen diminishing returns. Before you and Alexcamaro joined the Beatles one it was for the most part literally just me, Tk and JG66; and on top of that, Tk and I haven't been editing much Beatles stuff anyways. Before I started doing Bowie, only two of his articles were GAs (done by Ian Rose and 87Fan). Now I that I've (mostly alone) brought all of his studio records to GA minimum (and 20 songs at this point I think), to me starting a WikiProj would be a massive waste of time. You even said it yourself "I probably couldn’t expand much of his articles" so if I'm the only one doing most of the work what's the point? User:Kyle Peake, who's done a very swell job of expanding the articles of Kanye West, tried to start a WikiProj for him many years ago but that got no traction and failed, and West is an artist who you would THINK would have one. The way I see it, WikiProjs that are specific to certain things and not generalized (i.e. albums/film) are just not that successful nowadays, and if like Tk said as a (somewhat non-ironic joke) that if I'm single-handedly doing every one of Bowie's articles (which I'm perfectly fine with), I see starting a WikiProj for him superfluous.

Hello Zmbro, Deeperknowledge 22 here. Please allow the minor edits I have suggested as they improve the accuracy of the Scary Monsters article. Thank you DK Deeperknowledge22 (talk) 14:30, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
- Deeperknowledge22 No they don't. If anything, using an American spelling on a British article makes it less accurate. In Britain, 'synthesizer' is spelled 'synthesiser', and we must abide by that in all articles written on or about a British subject. All you've been doing is disruptive editing as I gave you a reason on the first revert yet you keep doing it. Please refrain. Thank you. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 14:39, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

NME 1985 records of the year
Following our recent discussion at GA, I thought you might be interested in this comment from the NME's 1985 end-of year charts: "the biggest cause of apoplexy was the non-appearance of Elvis Costello who, from 1977 through to '84, had always been represented in both the albums and singles charts." Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:10, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's US releases
If you remove the info about Capitol, then you better remove them from the North American chronology. Keep the capitol info in there as it is true that capitol published mono and stereo versions of Revolver and Sgt. Pepper in the us. Check if you want, it's true. ChallengeCick (talk) 16:53, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
- ChallengeCick I'm fully aware of what the US label was (but thanks for assuming I didn't). I couldn't link it on mobile but I reverted those due to the rules established at Template:Infobox_album, which state "Only the record label that the album was originally released on should be specified. Where significantly different versions have been released (featuring alternative track listings) e.g. in the US vs UK, the later release date or record label should be mentioned in the article, for example in a Release history section." – zmbro (talk) (cont) 21:47, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

DYK for This Year's Model
On 16 July 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article This Year's Model, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2021, Elvis Costello remade his 1978 album This Year's Model in Spanish with several Latin musical artists? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/This Year's Model. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, This Year's Model), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- TheSandDoctor Hey there, yes I believe it was. I seem to have gotten distracted with Bowie and Costello that I've pretty much forgotten about that. Did you want to try to return to that? – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:30, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Sure! I'd love to get it through GA and FA with you. The background section seems pretty light. Skimming it over now it is in need of sources, but I think it is definitely on its way to GA at the very least. What are your thoughts on it? - TheSandDoctor The main thing right now is background, recording and a songs/music and lyrics section. - I have more than doubled the background section just now from one page of All The Songs (there are 5 that cover the album itself, the rest of the chapter is per song). I will keep looking through All The Songs TheSandDoctor Talk 18:14, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Alternate Tony Visconti image
Hey zim. I wasn't sure if you were aware that in January of last year someone uploaded a couple images of Tony Visconti to the Commons. I figured this one in particular may be helpful as it would be a nice alternative to that blurry one. Tkbrett (✉) 13:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Tkbrett That could definitely work. I always hated how little few images of Bowie's (and EC's) colleagues are on this site. Could you go to commons and request someone crop it so it's just him and not the other guy? I can't atm but if not I could do it next week no worries. Thanks Tk. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 12:36, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
- Zmbro, here's a crop. It's unfortunately low resolution, but at least it isn't blurry! Tkbrett (✉) 12:44, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Attributed to multiple references
Where are you getting this "Attributed to multiple references" style from?[1] I can see a certain logic of this extra subgrouping but it seems like another layer of unnecessary complication, and the resulting footnotes are unhelpfully generic. (It isn't a requirement for pages to always make sense if they were printed out, but it is indicator that something is not the best it could be when it makes so little sense.) Over all it does not really seem like an improvement.
Could you please explain? -- 109.78.195.60 (talk) 14:36, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sure thing! User:Darkwarriorblake has been using that style in articles he's brought to featured status for awhile now. It is primarily used to deal with citation overkill, where having ten references connected to one sentence just looks bad, especially on mobile. I agree it may not come off as an 'improvement' per se, but it really aids in readability. I also find that other WP:CITEBUNDLES don't suffice as well. Hope that helps! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 14:57, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining I guess, but does this come from a particular type of academic style or somewhere like that or does it seem to be a personal thing? Maybe you could make the captions less generic? ie "Verhoven early life attributed to multiple sources"? I suppose I dislike this only about the same as I dislike other WP:CITEBUNDLEs, subgrouping and hiding does not seem like a real improvement, only making things superficially tidy for readers of the main text but less readable for anyone trying to follow the footnotes. If citation overkill is part of the problem then why not trim back some of the references? I can understand wanting to keep more reliable sources to books and print media and maybe have a web based source that makes things easier for other editors to WP:VERIFY but the article would probably be improved by removing marginal sources like CBR.com, Screenrant, etc. -- 109.78.195.60 (talk) 15:41, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm commenting here to avoid spreading this over multiple pages, but this is a standard that has been raised on multiple Featured Articles I've had promoted and it is an aesthetic and organisational issue. Hovering over the footnote shows you all the references or click on it and it takes you to the footnote with all the references. It's really no different to them being in line, it just avoids a bunch of references in the middle of prose, and cannot always be trimmed back and it also avoids redundancy if a reference is deprecated in the future for some reason. Hello Zmbro
Hi Zmbro, I'm fairly new to Wiki. I see you reverted my change on Heroes. Do you feel the infobox takes up necessary space? UnsungHeroWiki (talk) 00:07, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there. To answer your question I would say yes and also, I find that only extremely sufficient detail on a cover warrants an infobox (for example Nirvana's cover of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World"). Before I brought the 'Heroes' article to where it is today there actually was an inbfobox for the Wallflowers' version, but with only a few sentences regarding chart placement and a single review I felt that an entire infobox wasn't warranted and the image of Jakob Dylan was sufficient enough instead. Now, if there all of a sudden happened to be like three paragraphs worth of material about the Wallflowers' cover that warranted inclusion in the article then I would say it does deserve an infobox/own subsection. But for where it currently sits with only three sentences (and it does warrant inclusion in of itself per WP:SONGCOVER), it's perfectly fine without an infobox. Hope this helps! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 01:52, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- Gotcha, that's fair. I'll try and get some more detail/background, and if I do I'll run it by you (if that's OK). Thanks for the example too, that's helpful! UnsungHeroWiki (talk) 22:19, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Beastie Boys songs
Hi zmbro, I happened to notice this a while back, and I keep trying to remember to mention it. In List of songs recorded by Beastie Boys, which I believe you worked on, there are a handful of songs missing from Beastie Boys Anthology: The Sounds of Science, including the Japanese bonus track "Big Shot" (Billy Joel cover). Additionally, since you've included outtakes on the list, there's also the License to Ill outtake "Scenario" that was used in the movie Pump Up the Volume (but not included on the soundtrack). It's got harsh, explicit lyrics, which I remember reading a long time ago is the reason Columbia didn't want it included on LTI. It's on YouTube, in case you're not familiar with it and are interested. Cool, talk to you again soon. Moisejp (talk) 18:29, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

- HENRY1996 Thanks for the compliment! My initial plan was to only work on their debut, Rio, and Seven (with some consideration for the Wedding Album) as that's the era I've enjoyed the most and, if we're being frank, means the most in terms of influence on others. With that being said though, I did notice how in rough shape Notorious currently is and would definitely consider doing that one once I'm done working on a few more Bowie songs :-) although beyond that the wedding album I unfortunately don't have much interest (especially after hearing the god awful Thank You...) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 16:59, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- ok, waiting for your further updates (Notorious and The Wedding Album). and one more thing, what resources/books can you advise to use for writing the articles about DD? HENRY1996 (talk) 20:54, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- HENRY1996 I'd highly recommend Steve Malins's biography Wild Boys (2013 I believe) and Stephen Davis's Please Please Tell Me Now from 2021. Both give really good insight into the band's history (Davis spends most of his time on 78-85 mostly though). Also Andy and John Taylor's memoirs are pretty good as well, although Andy might not be as much of use given his short stint with them. I personally have those four and found those are the best ones to start with. Hope that helps :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 00:19, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've got Malin's and JT's things. I've written a russian variant of the band's page and 1st album. Thanks for your advice. HENRY1996 (talk) 12:47, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
