If I see something such as a box, template, image, etc., on another user/user talk page that catches my eye, I will "borrow" it. More than likely without asking.  ;) TheSandDoctor (talk) 04:52, 30 March 2017 (UTC)]][reply]

Question from AbhishekSpaceBoy (09:56, 16 November 2024)

Hi, I recently submitted a page for review. However, I didn't see any option to edit the title. So, how would the reviewers know what's my title? Are they going to use my username as the title? If that happens, it will be very troublesome. --AbhishekSpaceBoy (talk) 09:56, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AbhishekSpaceBoy: Not sure how I missed this, my apologies. The reviewer would change the name for you no problem. In future you'd have to move the page to rename it...but don't worry about that here. TheSandDoctor Talk 05:54, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Mytwistednightmare (01:36, 18 November 2024)

How do I create a wiki page? --Mytwistednightmare (talk) 01:36, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mytwistednightmare: My apologies for the delayed response. Please see this guide to creating your first article. If you are unsure how to contribute to Wikipedia, please try this interactive tutorial. You can ask any questions that you might have either on this page or at the Teahouse. The latter will most likely get a speedier answer. TheSandDoctor Talk 05:55, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SPI Thanks

Thanks for this. I thought closing was clerks only as well. Will do so going forward. Star Mississippi 14:10, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Star Mississippi: You're welcome! I admin patrolled for quite a while before becoming a clerk. Admins do have fairly wide latitude and their help is greatly appreciated. The only things really that you can't do are archive, endorse, or CU/clerk decline cases I would say...at least that I can think of off hand. Clerks can't close and archive the same case entries and there aren't many of us, so having an admin close ones they've otherwise completed frees us up to review and archive. TheSandDoctor Talk 18:00, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that's super helpful to know, thank you. Definitely happy to pitch in and take load off clerks as CU/Clerk beyond my tech skill set so not anything I could ever apply for and help with in that front. Have a good evening. Star Mississippi 23:11, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ali.kazimiA (18:36, 2 December 2024)

Hi, the TheSandDoctor, How do you make a whole new paragraph not made from the actual article? --Ali.kazimiA (talk) 18:36, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ali.kazimiA: My apologies for the delayed response. What do you mean exactly? You want to create a new article? You want to create a literal new paragraph in an existing article? Something else? TheSandDoctor Talk 05:56, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from StockMarketUpdates (03:12, 4 December 2024)

Hi there, sir/ma'am. May I know if how long (days) should I wait and How many edits should I do before publishing my own page? --StockMarketUpdates (talk) 03:12, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @StockMarketUpdates: I'm happy to see if I can help. What is the topic of the article that you are wanting to create? TheSandDoctor Talk 07:01, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's about one of the youngest stock market prodigy here in the Philippines who managed to build his own comoany at a very young age StockMarketUpdates (talk) 14:36, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@StockMarketUpdates: Has there been any independent/secondary media coverage of this person outside of press releases? If so, can you share some examples? TheSandDoctor Talk 00:18, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Nautical Study (01:09, 7 December 2024)

Hello! My area of expertise is primarily the merchant marine and nautical history. How do I search for articles in need of expansion for those topics specifically? --Nautical Study (talk) 01:09, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nautical Study! That is a very good question. You'll ultimately have to look around (find a nautical article or articles and click links etc to see what you can find), but perhaps take a look through these categories for articles/ideas to start? Category:Nautical terminology, Category:Nautical fiction, Category:Nautical television series, Category:Nautical historical novelists, Category:Nautical reference works, Category:Nautical comics, Category:Nautical charts, Category:Nautical Development Corp., Category:Nautical slang.
WP:REFB and WP:TWA are both worth a look if you need any help with editing. If you have any questions, please do feel free to ask here or at the Teahouse; you'll probably get faster responses at the Teahouse, but I will eventually get back to any questions and am happy to help. (Please remember that we're all volunteers doing this in our free time and can't always respond quickly.) TheSandDoctor Talk 19:35, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I create my profile with pictures --Dvoicebaba (talk) 17:55, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from George Nyiam (13:01, 9 December 2024)

Hi TheSandDoctor, Trust you're good.

I have some questions.

1. I want to create a wikipedia article, for the article not to be an "Infant Article" can i personally edit other articles to include the person's name? Although the other articles is related.

2. What's the best ways/options to adding wiki images to articles?

Best regards. --George Nyiam (talk) 13:01, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi George Nyiam! Who is this article about? Is it already created? If so, can you link it? Is it Anaïs Cardot? Where were you thinking of inserting it? TheSandDoctor Talk 00:32, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @TheSandDoctor
Not it's not created yet, she won Nigerian Idols about 10 years ago. Nigerian idol as a wikipedia page but they didn't mention or talked about her or other past winners. But Can i edit Nigerian Idol to include her?
What's your general advice?
Secondly, I can't add Anaïs cardot images, my wiki commons account was banned due to me unknonwly breached wiki commoms policies.
Kind regards. George Nyiam (talk) 16:28, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@George Nyiam: Do you have any reliable, independent sources that cover her? The notability guideline applicable here would be WP:NPERSON. I cannot assist with anything to do with Wikimedia Commons as this isn't the right forum and I am not an administrator there. Looking at your talk page there, though, you didn't appeal it properly. If you wish to file the appeal, please read commons:Commons:Blocking policy#Appealing a block carefully and follow its instructions. TheSandDoctor Talk 08:11, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSandDoctor Yes she has a reliable, independent sources that cover her.
I will proceed accordingly. Thanks alot.
Best regards! George Nyiam (talk) 12:45, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Nautical Study (18:31, 9 December 2024)

Hey there, I'm trying to add a flag icon to a link in an infobox for the States Steamship Company. I've found the flag (actually on wikipedia) I intend to use and have confirmed it is in public domain. I don't know how to turn it into an icon for an info box. I was able to use the flag for United Fruit Company by doing: | Ship owner=*United Fruit Company United Fruit Company I'm not completely sure how the flagicon link works. How do I turn an image into a flagicon? --Nautical Study (talk) 18:31, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like parameters entered there have sub-templates like {{Country data United Fruit Company}}. A new one needs to be created for a new option to work by the looks. All of the options are available in this category: Category:Country data templates. They look pretty easy to create; I could help with that but I don't have time at this exact moment. I should soon...will do some more research. --TheSandDoctor Talk 00:50, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MommyChed (02:07, 14 December 2024)

Hello! About the article of Mommy Ched, can you please tell us what specific part in the article are needed to edit? Thank you! --MommyChed (talk) 02:07, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MommyChed: based on the comments left by AfC reviewers on Draft:Mommy Ched, it is moreso the sources that need improvement and overall tone. Please see this guide to creating your first article. Wikipedia articles need to be neutral in tone and demonstrate notability by demonstrating significant coverage of the article topic/subject (in this case, Dr. Mercedes Cuello Lazaro Musngi) in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the article subject. These most commonly take the form of news articles, but can include non-fiction books and peer-reviewed academic papers. What matters the most is that the subject doesn't have any connection with the source (i.e. that it's independent) and that it isn't written by the subject themselves (i.e. that it's secondary).
Looking at some of the sourcing, it is also worth noting that opinion (op-ed) pieces generally aren't that helpful.
In this case, WP:NPERSON or WP:NACADEMIC are the two most likely notability guidelines. So long as you can demonstrate that one of them is met -- and at a bare minimum WP:ANYBIO -- then it will demonstrate notability for inclusion. Since notability is not considered temporary, the sources can be from any time during Musngi's life, so long as they are reporting on or covering Musngi.
What would you consider the 3 best sources for this draft? TheSandDoctor Talk 06:09, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Samboadu (21:56, 24 December 2024)

Hi and thank you for time. How many edits can i do in a day ? Secondly too i normally get this bots thing telling to try in minutes later --Samboadu (talk) 21:56, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samboadu! I am not sure what bot you are referring to, but you can make as many edits as you want in a day. My busiest months early on in my time editing Wikipedia, I made over 3000 in a single month! What message do you get when you're talking about a bot telling you to try a few minutes later? Can you give me an example to see if I can help narrow it down? TheSandDoctor Talk 00:49, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So anytime i edit and I try to to publish the changes, it sometimes tells me that i cant save it and that i should try in few minutes time, warning me of going to fast with edits Samboadu (talk) 01:42, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an anti-abuse measure, you are limited from performing this action too many times in a short space of time, and you have exceeded this limit. Please try again in a few minutes. If you are attempting to run a bot or semi-automated script, please read and understand our bot policy, then request approval. The above message is what i get when i edit more.. this is what i was saying earlier Samboadu (talk) 15:35, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Polarmailbabe (17:10, 29 December 2024)

Greetings, TheSandDoctor. I want to edit a page, citing an article in The New Yorker magazine, November 18, 2024. This is my first attempt at editing. Which editor do you recommend (Visual vs Source), and where should I go for help in making the citation? --Polarmailbabe (talk) 17:10, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Polarmailbabe (17:32, 29 December 2024)

I have another question already, as I have gone to the page and considered again how to edit it. The last line, and most recent update, states: "The instrument remains in use for Sunday services while awaiting further restoration.[1][2] " This is now only HALF true, as the organ stayed in the church till February of 2024. I am reluctant to over-write anything, but it makes more sense now to do so, something like "The instrument REMAINED in use in the church until .....", and follow with a brief synopsis of where it went, and for what purpose (repair and reconstruction). --Polarmailbabe (talk) 17:32, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
