User talk:Te Vaka Management
I would like to apply for a new name and to be unblocked but I can't figure out how to do this. I totally understand what I have done wrong and would very much like to update the Te Vaka page with facts about the group and the music. I had mistakenly thought that providing "quotes" from Media was acceptable. I will provide no quotes or promotional angles in future. I would just like to get the information up to present time as it is quite out of date at the moment. Te Vaka Management (talk) 02:42, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- To request a change to your user name go here. My greatest caution is to make sure you type your choice of new user name correctly and that you make sure it is appropriate and not already in use. The instructions heading has all you need to do written up there.
- I'd be happy to work with you on appropirately updating the Te Vaka article as i looked over the series of edits that you did and if they can be appropriately sourced many of them could be worked back into the article. delirious & lost (talk) 21:40, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
That would be great! How can we do this. I really don't have the technical knowledge to work this page Te Vaka Management (talk) 02:19, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- I looked over your other contributions. They highly relate to Te Vaka and are pretty much poorly or / and incorrectly sourced. Your user name can mean a fan but since you put the word "Management" into the user name it rather boldly states (maybe incorrectly) a formal affiliation with the band. As such that is a Conflict Of Interest. Those two reasons combined are why you were blocked. Anytime you edit something you have a COI in you have to be EXTREMELY accurate in your use of reliable 3rd party sources and also declare the COI as part of the edit notes. It is easiest to simply NOT edit articles wherein you (may) have a conflict of interest.
- You need to request a new user name. Because you are presently blocked you will need to copy this as it appears on this page (not the code in the edit page) and add it to the bottom of the page ,
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
, (you simply select to edit the page and then scroll to the very bottom and paste it) replacing "Your proposed new username" with something more appropriate such as "Oceanic Hermit" or "ChocolateLover1973" or even your name and then replace "Your reason here" with why you deserve to be unblocked. An administrator will then review it and if approved will put through the requested name change for you. Once that is done editing of the articles ON Wikipedia can be done. While waiting for that to happen you can work on the articles on your computer (OFF wikipedia) to properly reference things. I could work with you via email on the preparing proper articles. deliriousandlost@yahoo.ie I like music. I had never heard of this band before. Please remember that i an NOT an admin or anything but a lowly fellow user who is trying to help. Cheers delirious & lost (talk) 03:16, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

- Te Vaka Management emailed me regarding their WP:COI and i offered to rewrite their contributions in proper wiki format with refs. It could take some time as i am not familiar with Te Vaka at this time. delirious & lost (talk) 07:40, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Wikipedia, I must be missing something - I have spent most of the day trying to figure out Wikipedia and updating Te Vaka information only to have someone change it all back to what it was before I started. Can you please explain this as it is incredbly frusting as I don't have a lot of time and had set aside the day to to this.Te Vaka Management (talk) 10:34, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Te Vaka, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Problems
There are two main problems - first you are writing in a promotional tone, we write in a neutral way. Secondly, you cannot simply cut and paste reviews into articles, this is volition of the copyright held by the original magazines, those sorts of edits are removed on sight for legal reasons. --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay thanks - will update with that information in mind when I get another change Te Vaka Management (talk) 11:24, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding spam links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
- What can I do now?
Unfortunately I can't seem to work out how to change my username - it appears I am maybe blocked from this also. If you do intend to make contributions that are in line with Wikipedia's policies, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
below this message box. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
