Byzantine–Sasanian War of 602–628

Cplakidas (talk · contribs) and DemonicInfluence (talk · contribs), don't you think the article is enough complete to be proposed again to featured? I'm going to conclude the translation in Portuguese and I'm thinking to propose it this month, but before doing so I really would like to be sure you agree with this, specially considering that since 2011, nobody proposed it again, even after lots of posthumous contributions. What do you say?--Renato de carvalho ferreira (talk) 04:54, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is a very good and very comprehensive article, but I am not sure that it would pass a FAC. I would have to review the article in detail to tell you exactly what outstanding problems it has, but off the top of my head: there is too little coverage of the first years of the conflict, 602-608, and in general I perceive an imbalance between the space devoted to Heraclius' counterattack and the Persian offensives that preceded it, and the aftermath section does a good job on Byzantium, but not on Persia. In short, the article's focus is skewed towards a Byzantine viewpoint, not so much that it becomes partisan, of course, but it is there, and it is clear from the sources: most of the works cited were written by Byzantinists, and there are almost no works written by Iranologists, not even the standard Cambridge History of Iran. Furthermore, the article makes use of some sources which, while generally good, I would prefer not to see in a FAC, e.g. Oman, Norwhich, or Farrokh. These should be replaced by better-quality sources, as far as possible, before any FAC. Constantine 10:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Cplakidas (talk · contribs) (I know you prefer we call you by your first name, but I don't know how to do it using the template user; in pt. wiki I can summon an editor using a complementary name like "Cplakidas|Constantine"), thanks for the reply. I'm going to conclude the translation as soon as possible, maybe today, and so I can start thinking about an expansion of the points you said. Maybe we can find more information about the Persian generals in the Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire (at least about Shahrbaraz and Shain) and also in The Decline and Fall of the Sasanian Empire. Furthermore, I'm also going to check some sources I have (Kaegi, Dodgeon, etc.) and maybe I could solve the "problem". And just one more think. I made the svg form of the Mohammad adil (talk · contribs)'s maps, if you could check them out, I would be glad. Cheers!--Renato de carvalho ferreira (talk) 05:31, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Antes people, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Boz. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Irfan Shahin

Cplakidas (talk · contribs) and HistoryofIran (talk · contribs), hi to both of you. Do you have, or know, anywhere I could download the PDFs of Shahin's work? More precisely the collection Byzantium and the Arabs?--Renato de carvalho ferreira (talk) 02:43, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Renato! Not as far as I know, no. I've been looking for them for quite some time too. Perhaps a request at WP:REX is a good idea, if you are interested in a specific subset of one of his books (for obvious reasons, they won't/can't scan the entire collection). Constantine 14:29, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Constantine, it's quite disturbing when you need some book (specially such kind of relevant books) and you don't have access. That's why, always when it's possible I take books in the university's library and scan it to upload on Library Genesis. Fortunately there are all the volumes of the byzantine prosopographies that I always ask you for and as soon as possible it's gonna have an online version of them. Different from Europe and North America, for instance, here in Brazil it's really difficult or almost impossible to have access to lots of books due geographical distance. And it's quite expensive to buy those books (each volume of the prosopography of Martindale and Jones is almost 400 dollars).--Renato de carvalho ferreira (talk) 14:37, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
