sorry for the confusion, having read the policy on creating pages, i now have a better understanding as to how to do things. mainly, that references cannot come from the company website. however, i do believe there is merit in creating an octagon page considering the company was just named #1 sports agency in the world, hence notariety. the company also represents many athletes and personalities who already have wikipedia pages, thus would link into the larger wikipedia community. Lastly, if all of the above reasons are unsatisfactory, could you please explain what makes the wikipedia article on IMG, another sports agency, acceptable? This could help us make future pages better fit the spirit and letter of the rules. Thank you, Octagonball (talk) 18:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks
Octagonball - first of all, thank you for taking the time to read the applicable policies and responding in a civilized manner. That can go a LONG way towards getting some help! You have a tough road ahead of you, but it's always possible to create an article that meets our standards, given that you can show notability. Read that policy there (WP:CORP), and let me know here exactly why it meets that policy - cite your reliable third-party sources, etc. After we establish notability, you can start on your article - but realize that people are going to be skeptical, as your username implies a massive conflict of interest, which is not completely disallowed but is usually a huge strike against an article. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.
You may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below or emailing the administrator who blocked you.
Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Usernames that have already been taken are listed here.--Orange Mike | Talk 19:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
thank you again for your help with all this. the following are some links i trolled up in order to help the case for notability. in regards to the conflict of interest, i can definitely understand the point, and i could get a different user name if that would lower people's suspicions, but by the same token, anyone editing the hypothetical octagon wiki, would be presumed to be me. anyway, that is neither here nor there, as first thing is first,
here you can see that Octagon has gained notability within the field of sports representation as they were nominated and awarded best sports agency for 2008 http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/58457
this site proves that other businesses (people other than the sports business journal) actually care about these awards http://www.sportsbusinessconferences.com/sports-business-awards/
these are links to three separate media outlets that reported on the award

this is an article about an octagon employee leaving to go become an athletic director at a college, so people in other communities have noted octagon before

this is an article about octagon and their parent company at the 2004 Olympics, thus global notability http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2004_Sept_1/ai_n6178705
an article about zinadine zidane (the famous headbutter) and octagon http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=541023&cc=5901
article about the largest swimming contract ever negotiated http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=2288849
Hopefully this all helps, and we can work out a solution that is acceptable. I have not problems changing user names or whatever it takes. thank you, Octagonball (talk) 20:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
