Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 14:37, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, of course it depends on the type of material, but yes they can Althought you still have the right to believe it or not

The thing is, there's a difference between Al Azhar as a university and as a religious institution

The first one can grant academic degrees like any other university in its fields of study and can endorse the authenticity of something upon scientific leads and proof... While the other is one of the highest level religious institutes in the Islamic world, yet it doesn't give information as absolute facts but as opinion that should be respected out of the experience of its givers nothing more.. but some other groups may argue with that opinion if they have another interpretation or point of view...

In short,, if a research or opinion or what is called in Arabic "Fatwa" came out officially from Al Azhar then it has its Academic approval, while if it is the personal opinion of a high ranking person in Al Azhar or any researcher in it or a group of them, then it is just considered as some sort of "consultancy", and there's not obligation to follow it or acknowledge it unless it meets your own research or beliefs, or that some other country or organization acknowledges it by their turn... . I am now only welcoming users with contribs due to the nature of my choice of template, though I may start using yours so I can double up on edits (contribs and no contribs). Plus I stay away from accounts that have 'been automatically created' so even LESS welcoming from me. I will be doing very little of this from 16/08/09 due to vacation and school returning. So its up to you from next week onwards :D Hope its not too much burden for you ;) aha --Scythre (talk) 19:53, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

I will still be on everyday and will still be welcoming users, just not as many as I'm going into Year 11, which = coursework, GCSE's and more coursework! I also might be joining some after school clubs as well as continuing on with outside of school extrea curricular activities and looking for a job. Hope to see you round, --Scythre (talk) 20:01, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

When you come across spam, wherever it may be, please don't hide it: mark it with {{db-spam}} so it can be dealt with properly. Hiding it makes it harder, especially since in this case its that of a dedicated sockpuppeteer (160+ accounts). See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nakesha7c for further information. --Calton | Talk 13:48, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of unsourced material

Hi. There is generally no need to remove unsourced material in the way you did in Royal Worcester. The recommended practice is to improve the material yourself if it concerns simple edits, or at least place an appropriate inline tag to bring the area for improvement to the notice of other authors. Furthermore, the edits you made appear to have replaced the former text with further unsourced and/or out of date information.--Kudpung (talk) 20:10, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for backing me up with that sockpuppet thing; I hope it gets resolved soon and I don't get blocked. --ScythreTalkContribs 21:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Suicide

I would appreciate it if you would not rollback my legitimate, referenced additions to the suicide article. Do you disagree or have any other concern with the information I added to the article? If so, I believe the appropriate response is an entry in the discussion page, and not a rollback. thank youK.d.stauffer (talk) 08:00, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Your edits are unreferenced .Rest assured I will not rollback or revert your edits I would just like to know the reason for adding unreferenced edits. Your edits are critical in nature .The reference given is this link which I believe is a dead link or a link to a non existent page Have a good day and peace (Thanks for responding) --Notedgrant (talk) 08:06, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
The edits I made to suicide are referenced, and are not critical. I added two additional pieces of information to an existing section, along with three references. I don't understand why you object to them. K.d.stauffer (talk) 08:12, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
I find a single reference added here correct me if I'm wrong but wp:ref requires proper references .If you think your edits are proper we have nothing to argue about You are an old user and know the rules of WP--Notedgrant (talk) 08:19, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
This is getting a bit silly, but you asked me to correct you. My edits have proper references, three of them: one to S. Amazeen, one to the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, and one to NOW. So, we have nothing to argue about. I am therefore wondering why you continue to question my edits without providing any information or references that dispute or contradict the points I added. K.d.stauffer (talk) 08:33, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
I found only a single new source addedhere to a dead page.Thankyou for correcting me.Can you create a user page and a better talk page I can try helping you in it (Blank talk pages and user pages look sorta boring)Thanks for the response.--Notedgrant (talk) 08:39, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

This article should be about Malayalam only, not any mixed or other languages. That's the point. I just removed unnecessary original research material, like the Tamil closest relative sentence. Manipravalam is still in the article at the correct place. Thank you.--Ouseppan (talk) 15:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

I've checked your edits they are unreferenced you've removed a well referenced source According to the book A linguistic study of early Manipravalam By K. Retnamma pg 21 both sans krit and malayalam were used together , Early Manipravalam: a study By Ke Rāmacandr̲an Nāyar, K. Ramachandran Nair pg 83 & 88 .The book The Life of language: papers in linguistics in honor of William Bright, Page 26 By Jane H. Hill, P. J. Fine. What about the Kerala mathematics? This was not Manipravalam, was it? If not, that sentence has to be removed. --Ouseppan (talk) 15:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Edward Keonjian

An article that you have been involved in editing, Edward Keonjian, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edward Keonjian. Thank you.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Notedgrant (talk) 21:01, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Notedgrant! Your enthusiasm to keep the encyclopedia clean is much appreciated. However, it would probably be a good idea editors were to do more background research, or even try to improve articles, before listing them for AfD. I think this article should be kept. Please also check up on the accepted method of commenting in deletion debates; consensus will decide what action is to be taken.--Kudpung (talk) 01:33, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I've done as much as I could do for that article I formatted it (That's all I know about edward) I nominated it for AFD as I think Edward is not Notable enough to have an article of his own ,Thanks for commenting here --Notedgrant (talk) 09:13, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't think any of the editors who have rescued this article know much about him either, but a few quick searches in Google and Amazon were enough to follow some leads and establish notability. It's always a good idea to do this before deciding something is not notable and it can save the trouble of starting an AfD debate. Of course, obvious spam, advertising, and blatant rubbish are serious contenders for AfD. Do also check up on the accepted method of commenting in deletion debates if you have a moment, they follow a rather different procedure from talk pages.--Kudpung (talk) 18:43, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I think it's time to withdraw my AFD request .Can you help me with the link to 'the accepted method of commenting in deletion debates ' PLEASE .Can you close the AFD discussion PLEASE .Thankyou --Notedgrant (talk) 18:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
You'll have to wait now until an Admin who is not involved in the discussion gets round to assessing the consensus and closes the debate. It's on the AfD list so someone will do it fairly soon. How to participate in AfD debates is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to discuss an AfD, but I do recommend reading through the whole article from the top. There are many guideline articles like these for all the aspects of editing articles, new article patrol, and recent changes patrol, etc. It's also mentioned somewhere that it's fairly pointless putting welcome banners on the talk page of every user who hasn't initiated his/her talk page yet; it's usually done by an editor who is the first one to have something to discuss about an article. Welcoming IP users is pointless - they rarely read their talk pages anyway, because IPs are often shared by many different people who, for example, use school networks, public lilbrary networks, company networks, Internet cafés, or WiFi hotspots in shopping malls, trains, and airports etc. Messages on talk pages don't count to your 'edit score' - if that 's important ;) --Kudpung (talk) 19:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
:D Edit score does not count in my case I'm already a roll backer :)) I do not add welcome templates on user pages with no contributions or IP users I try finding new sincere users (I check their contributions before adding a welcome template on their talk page) COZ when I started on WP I had no one to help me out N I was just lost out here (Didn't know all the rules out here)I could not even create a my own user page it took me months to figure out HOW to edit articles out here .I've helped a lot of new users and try to sound welcoming Thanks for the Info and links PS:I'm gonna stalk your talk page (If I can )Good day (or night it's 1am here )--Notedgrant (talk) 19:22, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Removing comments

It most certainly is policy to remove comments that do not relate to the contents of the article. Look at the expansion of {{notaforum}}., to wit:

.—Kww(talk) 15:37, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Notedgrant, I just wanted to mention that while I appreciate your contributions, the long talkpage post removed by Kww was definitely "off-topic" because it did not relate to specific points of article improvement; rather it was a general lecture about Islam. Not only was it very general and unrelated to article improvement, but it failed to take into account that most regular contributors to Muhammad are already knowledgeable about the topic, regardless of their personal religous background. Please rest assured that any specific points you make will receive an appropriate response. Thanks, Doc Tropics 18:05, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
PS - I completely fell for the practical joke on your Userpage and had to laugh out loud. Good one  :) Doc Tropics 18:14, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
That talkpage post did not contribute to the discussion or it does not help in the improvement of the article .I did not know the {{notaforum}} policy of WP I'm fairly new here .I do not wish to waste the time of wikipedians on talk page Mohammed as the consensus is against my view. Thanks for helping me out --Notedgrant (talk) 18:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll add you review my contribution and remove it if it does not meet wp's guidelines --Notedgrant (talk) 07:44, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
OK. You might find some information useful here. I was originally collecting this information to start the Sufism in India article. What I now feel is that we can sufficiently develop the Sufi Saints of South Asia article and then possibly merge it or move it to a more general Sufism in India article. BTW, if you don't mind my asking, in which IIT did you study? (I am an alumni of IIT-Delhi). Regards--Shahab (talk) 07:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
That would be a cool article (the one on your drafts) We can start a new page on the list of Sufi saints.I'm in 12th at present I plan to study in an IIT.It's raining heavily at my place nothing to do out here --Notedgrant (talk) 08:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Just a friendly reminder: Don't be in a hurry to add citations unless you are absoultely sure. Your edit here got me thinking that you were referring to some other Ghazzali since Ghazali lived in the 11th century and Moinuddin Chishti came to India in the 12th so it was not possible for Ghazali to comment upon the Chishti order in India. But then I recalled that the Deliverance from Error is the famous autobiography of Ghazali himself and so your ref must have some truth in it. A little research brought me to this link which shows the claim has been made in altogether different book. So (if you don't mind my saying so) just make sure that references are verified in the future. Cheers--Shahab (talk) 13:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for correcting my mistake I used the same source but copied the books name written on top instead of the heading on the cover page.If you check this link the name on top is "Deliverance from error and mystical union with the Almighty By Ghazzālī, George F. McLean" while the heading on the book is completely different. It's negligence on my part thanks for the correction and info--Notedgrant (talk) 13:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes I figured that's how you made the mistake. Anyway, this accident might be a boon! I was casually reading over the contents of the book (although the ToC is incomplete, I believe the rest of the book is fully available) and we could use some material from the book (citations for social relevance of Sufism, bhakti and sufism etc are particularly difficult to find). Regards--Shahab (talk) 14:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

hi, You have recently quoted an article of mine labeled as "Quadel InfoCenter" and have indicated it as an advertising promotion. I would like to thank you in doing so as despite the fact of being a faithful Wikipedia user, I have for the first time written an article, am a beginner in understanding its terms and conditions. But after going through the pre-article writing points I have to insist that I have tried to make the article as neutral as possible. The article was definitely not an advertising campaign, I am informing a segment of people(who use the concerned) of the computer media software that is being described about. I have developed the software with a few of my colleagues, we are all students, that have been repeatedly requested deepening knowledge about our software. We thought of Wikipedia as a perfect portal to address the respected knowledge and have no intent of promoting it here. Under defence, there are several software programmers (e.g. autogk) who have shared knowledge about their product and the format is very similar to mine. Therefore I ask for your informative help in the specific field of editing a software product related article.

On the unreferenced conspiracy theory about Muhammad

Hi, I saw you reverted my contribution to the article about Muhammad. I would like to ask: what for references should I provide?

E.g. on Alberto Rivera I found the following:

Allegations that the Church created Islam
Rivera also alleged that the Prophet Muhammad was manipulated by the Catholic Church to create Islam and destroy the Jews and other groups of Christians, and that his first wife, Khadija, was actually a Catholic nun in an Arabian monastery who was told by a bishop to marry him and sow the seeds of what was to become Islam[1]. Rivera also alleged that the Vatican staged an apparition at Fatima (named after the Prophet Muhammed's daughter) to cozy up to Muslims.[1] He further claims that it also staged the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II using a Muslim as the marksman "to guilt-induce the Muslim world, bringing them still closer to the Catholic faith!"[1]

The link is http://www.catholic.com/library/sr_chick_tracts_p4.asp

Besides, on YouTube there are some films about it, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QGySwYYjb0

Personally, I don't believe in this conspiracy theory, but I think it should be included among the Western views on Muhammad. There is some circumstantial evidence for it, namely (i) Muhammad could not read or write (ii) much of the Koran restates the Bible (iii) the conclusion is that Muhammad had taken Bible classes from people who knew the Bible very well. Arguably, Muhammad was a reformer of Christianity, pretty much like Martin Luther. Tgeorgescu (talk) 00:12, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Youtube videos cannot be used as references and the authour of the link given is a non notable figure who does not deserve being quoted in the article Notedgrant (talk) 05:24, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Ok, agreed. However, this theory is being heavily spread on conspiracy websites and white supremacy websites. Tgeorgescu (talk) 00:04, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
WP is an encyclopedia not a collection of poorly referenced rumors you can discuss this with others on the articles talk page--Notedgrant (talk) 08:12, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to release it as an actual article when I'm finished with it. The talk page thing is just so I can get started editing it.--Ezri Tigan (talk) 18:21, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Ok as you wish--Notedgrant (talk) 23:24, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
I ran into the same page on a wiki I maintain. Same username too. Whatever SS Free is, it didn't seem to be related to that wiki's subject and was removed. It also doesn't seem notable enough to be on this wiki. The page has already been indexed by Google. And this Ezri character's the founder. Looks to me like he's just out to promote is site. 206.169.253.45 (talk) 12:28, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply

Thank you for the reply; I clicked on "my talk" but can't seem to find my talk page so I'm asking questions here. Apologies but I'm still unclear on how the "talk pages" work. I have a few questions on an article I posted today (my first Wikipedia contribution). First, there are two internal links that are displaying red (no page exists) even though the names present are the exact same as the Wiki articles under the same names. All other internal links work; can you help with this problem? Second, I included two footnotes and would like to add more - the numbers are present in the text but the details aren't displaying at the bottom of the page. And lastly, I attempted to use a golf template (to create a box on the right hand side of the entry); I entered the parameters but the box did not appear after saving. I would like to move a couple of images (will upload in a few days once my auto confirm status kicks in) to this box to further refine the entry but can't successfully save the template. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 20:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

You can find your talk page here I think you will have a new message notifier on the top of your screen :)--Notedgrant (talk) 10:32, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Follow Up

Thank you for the assistance with the page. I have one follow-up question and one additional query regarding images. You were able to address the three issues I experienced during editing of the Hattori entry; can you tell me why two of the internal links were displaying red despite being the exact names of the Wikipedia entries, and why the footnotes were present in the text but the information not present at the bottom of the page? This would help me when making future contributions. I am also having difficulty with the image upload process/licensing issue. I would like to add two photos to the Hattori entry; if you enter Michiko's name in Google Images these are the first two that come up - here are the links: 1) http://image.alba.co.jp/tourpro/00229/235x270/regular/Michiko_Hattori.jpg and 2) http://www.topy.co.jp/english/social/img/img_001_007.jpg I would like the individual photo in the info box on the right of the entry and the two-person photo in the same vicinity, perhaps following the introductory sentence? As far as I know both images have been in the public domain for some time (one photo dates from 1989 and the other is present on multiple sites). Can these images be added to the entry? Is there anything I need to do before they can be placed in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 09:58, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

"Help Me" Function

Thanks, I would like to try the "Help Me" function to contact Administrator but can't figure out how to do this on "My Talk" page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 10:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Please Add

Sure, you can add the template. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 10:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I really don't know what I am doing wrong; your response indicated I should ask my question below the template. At the top of "My Talk" page I see the box with question mark that says "I am looking for help" but I can't find the template. I tried clicking on various links but obviously I don't know what I'm doing or where the template is located. —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 11:38, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Question Regarding Images

Okay, thanks. Here is my question:

I recently contributed my first article to Wikipedia and would like to add two images, but am having difficulty with the upload process/licensing issue. If you do a Google Images search using Michiko's name the first two photos that come up are the ones I want to place in the article - here are the links: 1) http://image.alba.co.jp/tourpro/00229/235x270/regular/Michiko_Hattori.jpg and 2) http://www.topy.co.jp/english/social/img/img_001_007.jpg

I would like the individual photo placed in the info box on the right of the entry and the image with Michiko and Mickelson in the same vicinity, perhaps following the introductory sentence? As far as I know both images have been in the public domain for some time (one photo dates from 1989 and the other is present on multiple sites). Can these images be added to the entry? Is there anything I need to do before they can be placed in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by My Best Shot (talk • contribs) 12:04, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

My_Best_Shot

As you requested in IRC, I have dealt with the help request in User talk:My Best Shot#Help with images. For your future reference, please note that you could put a {{helpme}} on there, and a helper would then have seen it. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

speedy deletion of User:Professor m f smith/Medix declined

I've declined your speedy deletion nomination of this page. The reason is that this user has been working on this page in their user space for less than a day. They are obviously a new user and are trying in good faith to construct an article, and doing it properly by working on it in user space first. Generally, pages in user space should only be speedy deleted if they are attack pages or copyright violations. If you feel strongly that it should be deleted, consider WP:MFD.
