Updated DYK query On 30 July, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Adriaan Paulen, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thanks!

Thanks for the star Miller. I was just looking at your profile and I thought I was reading my own. I am too a straight male Christian Mega Dittohead, Reid and Pelosi hating, pro-life, Blues Brothers fan! Mega Dittos my good man! -Lemonsquares (talk) 14:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Years in boat racing

Please add in owning categories to the new boat racing categories that you are creating. These categories keep showing up in orphaned categories and creates work form someone else.... Thanks, Ian Cairns (talk) 15:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Boat racing templates

I appreciate your concern, but I am just following the example that was set for the boat racing events done during 2005-7. That's all. Chris (talk) 15:27, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - but have a look at: Special:UncategorizedCategories. Your categs keep showing up.. All categories should be created with at least one and preferably two owning categories. Otherwise they are orphaned. Please look at WP:CAT in the section "How to create subcategories". Ian Cairns (talk) 15:33, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Also, please look at: Category:Years in boat racing and look for the missing years.... then look back at Special:UncategorizedCategories for those years which exist but are not connected in... Ian Cairns (talk) 15:35, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
I've just double-checked Category:2005 in boat racing, Category:2006 in boat racing, Category:2007 in boat racing, and they all have two owning categories. So, you have not followed their example. Thanks, Ian Cairns (talk) 15:40, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Dots

Hello, it's a common mistake... {{}} is really the same as  •. So it already includes a space (non-breaking one) before the dot. So you need only a space after the template. The point of a template is to make sure that a link and a dot would not be split into two lines. Hope that makes sense, Renata (talk) 17:00, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

MFD nomination

I understand your concern on the Pelosi letter, but given the possibibility that the Fairness doctrine can also be applied to the Internet (and I don't think Wikipedia is immune from this since this will include blogs and that some people think Wikipedia could be one.), I think this is a legitimate concern. The fact that no one has raised a fuss on this until now regarding my subarticles tells me that this is less of a concern and more political based than anything else. Chris (talk) 13:40, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, thank you for sharing your opinion and concerns with me, but I disagree.
The page - the content under discussion - simply is contrary to several policies, as noted by several others, and will likely be deleted. (I would be surprised if it wasn't.)
The timing of the nom, I have no opinion about, since I haven't researched your current interactions with others in order to even guess at such.
The "no one raised a fuss on this until now" could simply be a case of a usespace page not being noticed. Or those who noticed, were unsure, and so hadn't nominated it. There is no deadline, after all.
At the MfD, I offered some suggestions as to some options. Those are still available to you.
I hope this helps clarify. - jc37 21:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Please see Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on September 21 and address the concerns of the DYK hook for Vladas Česiūnas. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 00:48, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Re your message here: The issue was located in this link. The hook was not completely sourced. I had approved it but then struck out the verification after another editor discovered that the hook contained information that was not in the article. The alternate hook was over 200 characters long (it should be 200 characters or less). After I notified you about the DYK hook issue, I went back to the alternate hook and was able to shorten it myself. The article was later approved by another reviewer. Hope this explains things. Cheers, Cunard (talk) 22:51, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

FIL World Luge Championships 2009 and the FIBT World Championships 2009

I would love to help, but I'm afraid I'm a snowbird-- we'll be in Florida from ~ 1/3/2009 through ~ 3/31/2009. You could try User:Duke53, who I think may live in nearby Tupper Lake, and has contributed some photos to the Lake Placid article. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 23:38, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2007 FIS Nordic WSC logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:2007 FIS Nordic WSC logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:41, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Olympic curlers of France, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Olympic curlers of France has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Olympic curlers of France, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 19:12, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Jamie Cruickshank

A tag has been placed on Jamie Cruickshank requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. AndrewHowse (talk) 13:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Uh-oh. The article got overwritten by some junior cricketer from Australia, who didn't meet the criteria. Did the bobsledder meet notability? I'll be happy to get it undeleted if so. Apologies. --AndrewHowse (talk) 22:59, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Google's cache has the bobsledder. I'm going to ask Pedro to undelete that version. --AndrewHowse (talk) 23:19, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
The dab would have helped, although the cricketer is a schoolboy as I recall, so it really doesn't belong here as yet. --AndrewHowse (talk) 23:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
