User:Mikebar/Sandbox Mikebar, to answer your question, I've been updating the DOS Awards page based on open-source material and a little bit of photoshop based on proposed medal descriptions. Satre21 (talk) 07:08, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mikebar, I'll add public-source links as soon as I come across them. Seems I jumped the gun on a few of these but will make sure there's something to back them up before posting in the future. Satre21 (talk) 07:25, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mikebar, I did not see the new Diplopedia logo on printed materials at Wikimania 2012. Some discussions involving Diplopedia wiki-folk may have displayed the graphic in presentations or signage, but I didn't attend all. Peatoneil (talk) 16:44, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if I could draw on your greater experience with Wikipedia, can you provide guidance/interpret this proposed deletion of Boly bio. As J. Wales mentioned from podium at Wikimania 2012, it would helpful if the nerdier, cold commentary was interpreted in English to be inviting to new contributors. My interpretation of "citations" (references/sources/footnotes/) is the footnotes amply included in this article on R Boly. By "citations" do they want scholarly articles that mention his research, projects and work? Can do, but need clarity. Should I put something like the text below on the talk page for the R Boly article? I am new to Wikipedia culture and would prefer not to err, but the comment in messages/talk seems really abrupt, censoring and unwelcome. Is it produced by bots? Does Wikipedia really, really want non-tec types, women, minorities, others who don't know the secret handshake and lingo to contribute content to Wikipedia, as Mr. Wales stated in the keynote address? Or was I hearing the usual foamy blather. In Wikipedia, please advise: what is the difference between "citations," "references," "footnotes," and "sources"? This article on R Boly includes numerous sources, footnotes, references and citations.Peatoneil (talk) 16:54, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the link to the reference creator tool. That's so useful. Also for your encouraging words. I make small fixes here and there in Wikipedia as I add parts of articles (or some imports) to Diplopedia.

HP Disk Drives

Nice article on the HP 7935 but in the big picture I don't think it was a particularly distinguished drive. The HP 97501 on the other hand was a very historical drive so if you or someone you know is interested in developing the history of HP HDDs u might want consider writing an article on it for the Computer History Museum's Storage SIG. I suggest the SIG instead of Wikipedia since the SIG encourages WP:OR Tom94022 (talk) 21:16, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
