Thank you!
Dear Joyous,
Thank you so much for all of your contributions to Yanni’s Wikipedia page. Your work and the help of others has been invaluable in sharing his story and achievements with the world. You all have done such a great job ensuring everything is up to date and it’s helpful to see all of the albums listed out as well.
We are wondering if it would be possible to enhance his Wikipedia page by adding a note about me, his daughter, in a “children’s” section. Additionally, we are considering creating a separate page for my own work and contributions.
Could you please advise on the best approach for adding this information? We’d like to maintain the integrity of the page and fit within the rules and requirements so I wanted to connect with you first. We are more than happy to provide any details or references needed for both updates, or follow any preferred process you suggest.
Thank you for your time and guidance. We look forward to your response.

Re: Edit
- In short, it wasn't me, some user before me added it and I was calling the new edit into question since this was the first time I heard about her throwing the pot. I didn't see a source on it either and deleted it first, but since there was info further up apparently supporting the new content, which the new body cam footage seemingly showed as well, I reverted my changes again. My latest edit was just moving the source it was tacked on (which didn't mention anything about the pot being thrown, just holding it above her head). You seem to be under the impression I had added it unsourced, but since I didn't, your reversal didn't remove it. Just letting you know. Someone more well versed in the case than me or the other user should probably look into that.

I found a lost wiki user
I discovered that you reverted an edit on Chippy Simmons article by another user, however that user seems confused and left a Talk topic on User talk:Sohom Datta instead of replying to the topic you started on their talk page... They seem to have their birth certificate and were looking for a way to provide proof. What's even more confusing is that I was trying to cross verify this anywhere online, and I only find more conflicting dates. This article is just a few day's off from this user's contribution. I'm a bit bored with reverting vandalism. Do you have any advice on where I could lend a hand? Or if any talk page stalkers can make any suggestions? Maybe need to keep in mind I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I get there in the end! Thank you. Knitsey (talk) 19:28, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Howdy, Knitsey! A couple of odds and ends I like dipping into:
- Project Merge because some articles work better combined. The project pages looks intimidating, but it's not, especially if you have installed Twinkle.
- De-orphaning articles means finding articles with no incoming links (there's a list, you don't actually have to FIND them), and add links to that orphan in at least one other article, when possible.
If either of those sound interesting, I'd be happy to help you get rolling on them. Joyous! Noise! 20:07, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- De-orphaning might be a good place to start. I did look at that some time ago but I wasn't sure about removing the tags side of it. I'm more confident about that now though. I could give that a go if you're willing to look at the first few I do just to make sure I'm doing it correctly? I will have another read through the process. Knitsey (talk) 20:15, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Happy to help. I remove the tag if I add even one incoming link. Joyous! Noise! 20:24, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I've read through the de-orphaning policy.
- Look for a meaningful links, check categories, if I can add one or more links then use the de-orphan summary, remove the orphan tag using the de-orpaned summary.
- Does the de-orphan summary/removing the orphan tag automatically remove it from the list or do I do that manually? Does removing the tag automatically generate a message to the page creator?
- Thank you for helping me! Knitsey (talk) 20:48, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Removing the tag removes the article from the list. No message is generated to the page creator, and there's no need for you to message them: it's just a "regular" edit. Joyous! Noise! 21:03, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Lovely, thank you. If I do a few tomorrow, can I just message you here so you can check my work and that I've done it correctly? I don't envisage problems, so just the first three that I do? I don't want to add too much to your work. Knitsey (talk) 21:09, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

- Well this isn't going great. I did 5 November 1946 Vnukovo aircraft crashes which wasn't a problem. The next one I tried was Bloomage. I didn't need to do anything as links were already added but the orphaned tag was added after someone else added links. I then looked at Chang Wen-chen and again, the orphan tag was added even though someone added links. What am I missing. Knitsey (talk) 16:22, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

I don't think you're "missing" anything. The ones that already have incoming links from other articles...you're tidying those up by removing the tag. Possibly someone added the link to Article A from Article B, but never actually noticed the orphan tag sitting on top of Article A, so it never got removed. Joyous! Noise! 17:03, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for checking for me. I bet you regret me asking now lol. I feel confident about adding links and de-orphaning. If I run into any problems then I can always ask advice from the person adding the link. It's a nice break from anti-vandalism. You're a star, ty, Knitsey (talk) 17:51, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Appeal 2024
Hi @Joyous!: I'm 2RDD. I've been editing Wikipedia for a year now and have made over a thousand edits. I'm passionate about maintaining article quality and combating vandalism. I believe Rollbacker rights would help me make a bigger impact. I'm eager to take on this responsibility and contribute to our community's mission. Thanks for considering my request! 2RDD (talk) 10:32, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, 2RDD. I don't feel comfortable assigning rollback rights for a couple of reasons. 1) I don't see any evidence from your contributions that you engage in much anti-vandal work, outside of a few specific articles that you've created or contributed heavily to. 2) I'm not convinced that you see a difference between "vandalism" and "edits that I don't much like on an article that I care about." Most of your edit reversions have no helpful explanation, and you rarely leave a comment on either the other editor's talk page, or on the talk page of the article itself. I'm sorry to have to decline. Joyous! Noise! 19:32, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Re: September 2024
Hello @Joyous! Thank you for leaving me a welcome message. I would like to clarify that my edit was neither a test nor a misspelling. I changed "Argentinian" to "Argentine", because it's the most commonly employed demonym for people from Argentina and its usage is sometimes recommended over other alternatives (e.g., [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]). I would greatly appreciate it if you would reconsider leaving my edit in place. Once again, thank you. 186.152.162.193 (talk) 04:12, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi Joyous!! I'm messaging you to let you know that I just strengthened this range's block to a site-wide block and set it to expire one month for now due to this edit that I just caught. I'm letting you know about this because you had modified the block for this range that has still been ongoing. I'm not sure as to how extensive, related, or how frequent the past vandalism from this range has been, but the previous block logs made it clear that stronger blocks would be imposed if shenanigans continue. Please know that you're welcome to modify, reduce, remove, strengthen, turn upside-down, - whatever you want to the block modification that I imposed. Just let me know and why; It would be good information in case this range pops up on my radar again. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:46, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the block here. Would you consider extending it? The previous block was for 1 year (see block log, which expired today at 16:12, and the vandalism started up again only a little more than an hour later at 17:33. I know some admins don't like to make longer blocks, but in this case, I don't think we'll ever see a constructive editor from the IP range (and /64 range blocks have pretty much no collateral damage). Would you consider extending the block to another year? Thanks. 73.67.145.30 (talk) 17:52, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Message received. Life is short. I won't butt in again. When someone has time to post a Wikipedia entry on the shaka movie that is documented to your satisfaction you will have the verification you want for the information you deleted. Until then the Wilipedia community can live without accurate information about Fasi's embrace of the shaka hand sign. Possible sockpuppet for vandalism
Hey! I've never really dealt with this before so I'm not sure what to do but the account that you recently blocked for vandalism (user:Ishartted) I think is using this account: user:Vlynar as a sockpuppet. They were both created within minuets of each other and have vandalized the same pages using the same language but not at the same time. [8] I also don't know how to detect if there are more linked accounts. Thanks for any help! -- Lenny Marks (talk) 23:36, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Human sex ratio
Why is there no mention of God on the topic of human sex ratio. God made one man and one women. That is why the ratio is and always will be as close to one man and one women. The principles or philosophies mentioned are an attempt to explain the sex ratio. The belief that the human sex ratio is established, maintained and monitored by god is just that. A belief. That more than one person has and is provided in text as a historical document. I can provide a write up but should be mentioned. Again, there is not a perfect explanation for the human sex ratio which leads to an opinion or belief, which it is the belief of myself and many other religious, or spiritual scholars if you prefer, people that it is God. 47.223.176.227 (talk) 04:05, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- I do understand that you feel strongly about this, but Wikipedia doesn't state religious beliefs as fact. Our policies of verifiability means that information added needs to be cited to a reliable published source. The Bible doesn't qualify there, and your individual interpretation of your religious beliefs falls under the category of original research, which is also something we try to avoid. Joyous! - Thank you for your reply. If were really honest about what were talking about, or writing about, then we would have a different conversation. The bible is the most printed book in the history of the world and has been read by more people in the world than any other book. This is a matter of your belief versus my belief. Which is fine. Neither can change the others. If anything, I would like to believe that you have read a bible or seen a verse from Gods word. If not, its a darn good book that has changed more lives than any other published source. Thank you again 47.223.176.227 (talk) 04:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

I used the Florida Senate website for my edit in Homelessness and wondered if it's copyright-free, I saw your warning and trying my best not to do that mistake again. Regards, ミラへぜ ミラへぜ (talk) 21:09, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- No problem! Thanks for checking. Even if the site is copyright-free, it's best to cite your sources anytime you add content, especially if there's a direct quote involved. That allows other people to read the source material for themselves for verification purposes, and so they can learn more about the topic. If you aren't sure how to add a reference, you can look over this page, or ask at The Teahouse. (The only reason I'm not jumping in with an offer of help with the referencing is that I mess up citation formats every time.) Joyous! Noise! 21:13, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
WMF Research Team

Request for advice on a possible bot
Hi, Joyous! You are listed among the "active administrators", so I was hoping you could steer me in the right direction on the following issue. I frequently edit the articles about towns in Iowa, and I found that almost all of those articles contained summaries of the 2000 and 2010 US Census info for the city, but no summary of the 2020 census results. Almost all of the articles had had the population updated with the 2020 values, but the vast majority had no multi-paragraph summary of the 2020 census, even though they did have multi-paragraph summaries of the 2000 and 2010 results. This is true for other states too. I first noticed this a few years ago when the 2020 results were released, and I assumed that some bot would come through and update all the articles, because it appears that a bot did all of the 2010 census updates. But here we are, approaching the middle of the decade, and no such mass update has occurred. So I updated the Iowa articles myself, and there were 974 of them. I'm not willing to do that manually for the other 49 states. I asked, on the Bots/Noticeboard, if anyone would be willing to work with me to create a bot to do the mass update, but got no takers. Is there a better place to discuss such things? I can write code that will pull the data out of the US Census servers, and format the output so that it is suitable for Wikipedia, but I don't have the guts to actually try to make a bot for Wikipedia myself. Do you have any suggestions about how I should proceed? Thanks for any info!PopePompus (talk) 01:54, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- You updated all 974 of them???? Dang, your keyboard must be smoking! I would suggest visiting the Village Pump, perhaps the technical or proposals section. If someone there can't help you directly, they can probably send you to a better spot. Joyous! Noise! 02:00, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response and pointer. I'll check out Village Pump. Yes, I manually updated all 974. It took several days. PopePompus (talk) 02:09, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

Fossorial vs. Burrowing
Hello Joyous,
I see you reverted my edit to the Marsupial mole article -- do you disagree that 'burrowing' has a more obvious meaning to the average user than 'fossorial'? [i'm very new so, my apologies if this is not the right way to discuss changes] Ngenthatcould (talk) 18:45, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well dang, I'm so sorry. I remember looking at that edit and thinking "oh, good thought." Totally didn't mean to revert it. Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
