I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
tag from Dan Trotta, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, proposed deletion is disallowed on articles that have previously been de-prodded, even by the page's creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{proposed deletion}}
template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Phil Bridger (talk) 19:12, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- - GeoSwan created this page after an argument we had online. I asked him to take down an image of me and it got ugly. I just want to have control over my own page (which I don't want up at all, frankly). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Imissdisco (talk • contribs)

Hey can you give me a hand? Someone keeps reuploading my photo every time I edit it Imissdisco (talk) 20:14, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Dan Trotta, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. M.Bitton (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Please do not remove all content from pages without explanation, as you did with this edit to Dan Trotta. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing. Belwine (talk) 21:17, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
I’m trying to remove/replace the photo and correct the incorrect info Imissdisco (talk) 21:19, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
Hello, Imissdisco. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Dan Trotta, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. M.Bitton (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
I am Dam Trotta. The page is about me, and contains incorrect information amd an erroneous photo Imissdisco (talk) 20:19, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- What is your problem with the photograph? Is it that it is not you or is it just that it is unflattering? Phil Bridger (talk) 20:38, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm happy to replace it with another one, but I'm not sure how. It's from a group photo and was erroneously credited to me
- Hi. Please the WP:COIEDIT guidelines and propose changes on the article's talk page (by using the
{{request edit}}
template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard. M.Bitton (talk) 21:17, 2 March 2021 (UTC)- Why are you ignoring my advice? M.Bitton (talk) 21:19, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
All I want is to remove some incorrect info and swap photos. This is a page about me and I want it to be accurate. I can’t figure out what you’re suggesting. I’m unable to post anything on the talk page. This is infuriating, I don’t even want this info up Imissdisco (talk) 21:21, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Imissdisco, you can post on the talk page. Unreferenced controversial information shouldn't be on the article per WP:BLP, if that is an issue. --Belwine (talk) 21:23, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

- Everything is explained here. M.Bitton (talk) 21:27, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Information to be added or removed: "Trotta taught Business Communication at London, Ontario's Fanshawe College, after he earned a BA in Creative Writing from Concordia University, while working on his own writing in his spare time.[1]
During a 2017 interview with TV Eh? Trotta described offering to volunteer at the National Screen Institute, to gain some experience with the process of writing for television of film, only to have his offer declined.[2][3] He was told they could not employ him as a volunteer, but they could pay him to help with a backlog of scripts that needed to be read, and a synopsis written. Trotta said it was staff at the NSI encouraged him to apply for a position at the Canadian Film Centre. The CFC only accepts a half-dozen or so students per year, and he was lucky enough to be accepted the year Denis McGrath was the instructor.
Trotta wrote a short film, The High Note, in 2012, and followed this up with work on the police drama Blood and Water, in 2016, and joining the writing staff of the long-running series, Murdoch Mysteries, in 2017.[4] Trotta wrote 17 of the series 32 episodes, and is credited as co-creator. He is credited as writer on 9 episodes of Murdoch Mysteries, and as a producer on 40 episodes."
- Explanation of issue: To be removed. Unclear and erroneous in parts. The text conflates and inaccurately repurposes text from articles
- References supporting change: URL's are already on wiki page.
In addition, please remove photo.
- You really are not doing yourself a favour by not following the "how to" section of Template:Request edit. It clearly states "Go to the article's Talk page and click the New section tab, etc." M.Bitton (talk) 22:17, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, since the Dan Trotta page no longer exists, I have closed these edit requests. If you have any questions, please go to the WP:TEAHOUSE or WP:HELPDESK. Please put future request edits on the talk page of the article you want to edit (not here). You can use the Wikipedia:Request Edit Wizard to help make your request. Thanks and happy editing. dealing with a page about oneself
Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help has information that can help you. The page about you is gone now. If you have further content problems, you can seek help at the Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard. If there are problems with another user per se, you can seek help at Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. If all else fails, you can seek help from the WMF via the emails at Wikipedia:Contact OTRS. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 03:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Apologies on behalf of the community
I'm another volunteer who's seen the kerfuffle caused by an editor's rude behaviour towards you and I just thought I'd reach out as I haven't seen anyone do this in quite the same way. The way you have been treated is not acceptable, it's not how we normally do things and (as you may have seen at the administrator's noticeboard) the actions of one of us do not reflect our diverse community as a whole. It is true that our content needs to maintain an editorial independence of the people it is about, firstly to avoid us becoming a website for hagiographies and secondly because the site would simply not exist if we had to get permission for every article we write or withdraw everything someone disliked. And it is also true that people do sometimes pretend to be people they aren't. Neither of these are at all a justification for the intimidation and rudeness you were subject to. I'm sorry you've experienced this.
If you have any questions about anything Wikipedia-related (I understand our behind-the-scenes structure is incredibly confusing to almost all people at first), you can always contact me at User talk:Bilorv.
And just a small note: I've noticed you trying to sign your posts with a symbol that's not quite the correct tilde (~
) character. If you're editing on a computer then there should be a button labelled "Sign your posts on talk pages" in the edit window that you can click to produce the right symbols, though you can also find the symbol on most keyboards. Thanks! — Bilorv (talk) 01:00, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hey thanks very much for this. Very kind of you to reach out. And thank you for the apology, it really is appreciated. Honestly this whole kerfuffle has been embarrassing and super draining, and has also made me feel unbelievably out of touch! I can't believe what a hard time I had navigating all this. I'm a millennial, for god's sake (elder, but still).
I'm definitely not proud of some of my behaviour, so thanks for seeing past that. I just felt so powerless. Not sure I have anything to compare it to.
Anyway thank you for the offer to answer questions, I'm sure I'll definitely have some. Geo has uploaded the wiki page to a site called wikialpha, so now I've got to try and figure out how to get that taken down.
I guess maybe I should just start my own wiki page and get ahead of this? The thought terrifies me.
Thanks for your time, mostly. Some really incredible people here. Cheers, d Imissdisco (talk) 16:45, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
- Don't know what wikialpha is, but they should have a take down process. (The Wikimedia Foundations does too. It is among the emails on the contact OTRS page.) Not an attorney, but an avid photographer. Regardless of whatever copyright or copyleft status images you have posted possess, you have personality rights. (The folks at commons should remember that.) Most responsible websites take down content on request, though on Wikipedia it is the WMF that owns that process. Hope this helps. @Geo Swan:-- if you put that content on Wikialpha, you wanna be ein Mensch and see to its removal? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:12, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for this, and for your help earlier. This is really good to know. I’m amazed at how I’ll equipped I am here. Extremely generous of you, very much appreciated Imissdisco (talk) 17:44, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Welcome!
Hi Imissdisco, welcome to the project. I hope you'll stay. Here's some links I found useful when I started. –xenotalk 20:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

- I second what is said by xeno. Things got off to a rocky start, but there is no reason why they can’t make a turn for the better. All blocks have been reversed here and on Commons. Plenty of us are around if you ever have any questions and do decide to edit again. TheSandDoctor Talk 21:07, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Seconding that community apology, and...
...as a fellow writer, totally relate to putting that in a script. Wikipedia gets some very writable characters ;) Vaticidalprophet (talk) 03:53, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- I second this. If you ever have any questions, please do let us know. We are quite happy to assist. --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:17, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
- I was alerted to User_talk:HJ_Mitchell/Archive_123#Thanks!--yeah, with mirror sites, I really can't help you there. There's all kinds of ways in which Wikipedia material gets copied, mirrored, archived, etc., and we don't have much of a say over it. As for retaliation--there also, the Internet does as the Internet does, and there's plenty of opportunities for people to hurt other people. We have no control over what others do, we just need to try and keep our own servers clean. Decent websites have places where you can report abuse, but much of the Internet just isn't decent, I'm afraid... Drmies (talk) 20:25, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 16:39, 24 February 2022 (UTC)The guy tagged me in posts, and I responded. Can someone get control of that editor, please? It’s bordering on slander. Imissdisco (talk) 16:43, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- The other editor has also had their access to that page revoked. There is a discussion about this at the administrators' noticeboard, please see WP:AN#Action review: Geo Swan and imissdisco. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:13, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Fair enough. I just want to be rid of this. Thanks for stepping in. Sorry for the trouble. Imissdisco (talk) 17:16, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
I’d love it if you could link to Geo’s comments over on the Commons page he created about me. It helps to explain my frustration, and what I’ve had to deal with. I feel it’s relevant:
https://en.wikialpha.org/wiki/Talk:Dan_Trotta Imissdisco (talk) 20:58, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Link to it in the AN discussion is what I meant to say. Since I can’t engage Imissdisco (talk) 20:59, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, just passing through, but as far as I can see, you've only been blocked from his personal talk page, not from anywhere else, so you should be able to engage at the AN thread. That right, Ivanvector? SN54129 21:05, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Hey, I don’t believe I can. Though it could be I just can’t figure it. There’s no “reply” box, which I figure means I don’t have access (I know, I’m so terrible at this). It’s fine, more of an aside. Just strange to have an entire convo happening about me that I can’t participate in. Thanks anyway Imissdisco (talk) 21:21, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- SN54129 is right, you're only blocked from Geo Swan's talk page, you should be able to edit any other page. The reply feature is not implemented on this wiki yet, basically you reply by editing the section on the AN page the same as you're editing this page. If you really are getting an error trying to edit the page, please post here what you're seeing and we'll try to figure it out. Or, just post what you'd like to say here and someone will copy it over. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 22:58, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, I've just found the deletion discussion for the photo you asked to be removed; you're being talked over by admins there who think you should be able to find info yourself although nobody bothered to provide a link to it. Just so you know, every Wikimedia website is a separate project with separate governance structure (except at a very high level by the Wikimedia Foundation), and administrators on one aren't necessarily administrators on others. I'm an administrator on English Wikipedia but not on Wikimedia Commons, and that's more common than admins who have rights on both. There's not much I can do directly to help with the image on Commons, but I'll provide some links below. Wikialpha is not a Wikimedia site at all, it's a mirror, and we unfortunately have no control over its content - if they've copied your picture from here you'll have to contact them to remove it.
- At Commons you were referred to OTRS to confirm your identity and process your request to remove your picture. OTRS refers to a volunteer response team that handles non-public issues, like identity verification and responding to requests from article subjects. OTRS also was renamed since that discussion, it is now simply called the volunteer response team. Don't click on that link unless you want to be frustrated, our volunteers have turned that into a bewildering labyrinth of links to not particularly useful information. I believe your best approach is to email info-en-cwikimedia.org. Don't say anything that sounds like a legal threat or you'll be referred to the legal department, and then nobody will talk to you at all until the legal issue is resolved. Just explain who you are, that you're a non-notable individual (don't worry about what this means, it's wiki-speak) and that your likeness is being used without your consent and you would like it removed. They should help you from there. I can't promise that they'll remove it, I'm no expert in copyright law, but they should at the very least be more helpful than the admins at Commons.
- Sorry for all the runaround and hassle. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 23:19, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Hey, thanks so much for this. It’s pretty embarrassing to be this inept at something. I was a bit frustrated yesterday, and it’s totally possible that could happen again, but I think it’s best I just keep my big mouth shut for now. I really appreciate the time you put into this, and I am sorry for the disruption. I just feel like this person never really copped to what they did, so the idea they might be reinstated set me off. But it’s not my fight. I’m clearly out of my depth.
I’ll hopefully just stick to reading wiki articles from now on. Imissdisco (talk) 15:47, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
