Peer Review

I created and wrote the article you recently edited (Mopane worm). I'd like to get the article nominated as a Featured Article, but it needs to undergo a Peer Review by people who are better versed on the topic than I.

Would you be up to the task of peer-reviewing the Mopane Worm article, editing as you see fit (including new information) and leaving comments on the article's Discussion Page? Your help greatly appreciated.

Rinaca ana

Could you please confirm that Rinaca anna posted by Alka Vaidya on Indianmoths is a Saturniid. (yes i know it looks like one, but i'm still asking this silly question).AshLin 11:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I googled. Its Saturniid all right but is it correctly Saturnia (Rinaca) anna or Saturnia anna or Rinaca anna? Regards, AshLin 11:33, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indian moths endeavour

Hi HKMoths,

You have given so much knowledge and made many valuable edits to the new Indian moth lists - you are practically a member of the Indian Moths endeavour. It only remains for you to add your name. May I request you to do so?

Is it Argyreus hyperbius?

Hi. I'm referred by User:Shyamal on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Arthropods page.

Would you help me to confirm that if it is a Argyreus hyperbius or not? It was taken at Tai To Yan. Thanks. --minghong (talk) 12:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction / Asian Lepidoptera Conservation Symposium

Hi Roger, is the ALCS schedule available online somewhere? I think Robert Nash - User:Notafly - who curates the entomology collection at the Ulster museum may find it of interest. You would have seen some of the historic Parnassius specimens from "high" Asia that he has shared on Wikipedia. Thanks and best wishes. Shyamal (talk) 02:37, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No confirmation on ALCS3 (2010, Coimbatore, India) yet. I'm still awaiting the organizer's final decision, though they're pretty much ready to make an announcement, based on the correspondence I've had with them. I'll let you know as soon as I have confirmation from the organizers. cheers, Roger. HKmoths (talk) 08:27, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dates for ALCS3 have been confirmed as 25-29 October 2010. Am awaiting further details from the organisers at Zoo Outreach Organisation, Coimbatore. HKmoths (talk) 07:39, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information. Shyamal (talk) 14:51, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Key themes have been posted to me and will be along the following lines: (1) investigating the use of iconic / endemic flagship Lepidoptera species to promote habitat conservation through community involvement; (2) assessing priority areas / communities for Lepidoptera conservation initiatives at the local level that has global conservation impact; (3) moth and butterfly identification skills & (4) moth & butterfly conservation ecology & management. Further info will be posted on the ALCG website forum (at sealcg.freeforums.org) cheers, Roger. HKmoths (talk) 04:38, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the additional Ids. I am unfortunately not attending that. I did pass it on the information to some others who might. In case you might have some time in Bangalore, please do let me know if you can make time with some of my friends at the entomology department of the University of Agricultural Sciences. Many thanks for the quick reply. I'm based in Coimbatore, and will be tied up with preparations for the symposium for two days prior and will be on a site visit for a couple of days after the symposium. Unfortunately my time in India is already catered for, and as I have work commitments in Hong Kong on the weeks prior and post symposium, I can't take any extra time out to travel elsewhere, much as I'd like to. Will have to take a rain cheque for some other time. cheers, Roger. HKmoths (talk) 14:56, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr

Hello there HKmoths! I am wondering: are you the same person as HKmoths on Flickr? If so, may I be so bold as to ask if you would consider making the images you have uploaded there available under a cc licence? I have been making a lot of south-east Asian, Australian and Pacific moth species and keep finding your images, but cant use them due to the licence. Seeing you support wikipedia, I thought I would just ask if you would consider making them available. Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:41, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ruigeroeland - yes guilty as charged r.e. Flickr! Until such time as the book on Hong Kong Moths I'm working on is published (whenever that will be), all my moth photos will remain fully copyrighted. Once the book is published, then the photos not used in the book will be made available under a creative commons licence and the photos used for the book will remain fully copyrighted. As yet, I can only suggest that the book will be at least another two years in prep, due to the amount of time I have (or rather don't have) to work on the book. Sorry I can't be more positive yet. cheers, Roger. HKmoths (talk) 13:19, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that explains a lot! Good luck with this book and glad to hear you will release all other images after publication. Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:55, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw an ID you made on the facebook moth group. Could you check the id of File:Moth2talakaveri.jpg please ? Lepidoptera Taxonomy

Dear Roger,

Thanks for your good wishes & also for the reference. As requested, I have placed the request on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Lepidoptera. I trust that this new research is not controversial and has been accepted by all authorities? AshLin (talk) 08:21, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks AshLin. The new arrangements for Noctuoidea are being accepted in the Americas and by most Old World based taxonomists very quickly. There will always be some who will not agree on all details, such is the conservative nature of people who don't like change (perhaps they're not willing to learn "new" ways). I must admit that it's an absolute pain in the butt to have to update my database, Flickr, iNat, Facebook, website (an ongoing and slow process) etc....., but that's the price we pay to have a better and more complete understanding of the phylogenetic relationships involved in Lepidoptera classification. I think the Brits will be amongst the slowest to adopt the updated classification. cheers, Roger. HKmoths (talk) 05:04, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP Lepidoptera in the Signpost

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Lepidoptera for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 05:11, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cephonodes sp.

Hi Roger, this image from souther India currently shown in Cephonodes hylas shows a prominant tibial spine at the end of what I think is the foreleg. It is also white. Based on Bell & Scott's key, I would identify this as C. picus but I am a bit confused by a discussion on a Flickr discussion "sphingidologist" (Dr Kitching?) says white leg would suggest white on the underside of thorax and therefore hylas. Would C. picus be right in this case? Is C. kingii known from India/South India? Shyamal (talk) 14:34, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shyamal, sorry to take so long to reply (long story, but have been ill a while) - best to go with Ian Kitching's opinion here... HKmoths (talk) 04:21, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

High level structure

Is this what the consensus says ? Where does Balsinae go? The long one is what Wikispecies currently has...

Any chance that you can draw up the tree? Shyamal (talk) 05:29, 24 November 2013 (UTC) PS: the Wikicode for these trees are generated from a little utility I wrote (works on Windows) http://code.google.com/p/claded/downloads/list Shyamal (talk) 06:03, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Saptha smaragditis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ambon. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:56, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The link for Ambon is not to the disambiguation page, but to that for Ambon Island. I checked this before saving the edit. Thx for the checking, though. Good to see that there is a bit of qc taking place. HKmoths (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
