High-speed trains
What is your justification for removing the section of experimental high-speed trains? You write that the article is about high-speed trains, but why would that exclude experimental ones? Why should we be bound by the intend of the original editor, when the scope of the article title is plenty wide enough to accommodate additional categories? NCLI (talk) 23:26, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- NCLI, I created the page "List of High-Speed Trains", with a clear goal : make a listing of high-speed trains currently (or by the past) in COMMERCIAL SERVICE. It's not a page about prototypes or futuristic or I-don't-know-what trains.
- You're free to create a new page about prototypes, or other list of trains. By the way, there is ALREADY a page about speed records.
- And please : the TGV POS for the 2007 record was NOT a prototype, it was a commercial model (shortened to 3 cars), that is currently in service on the LGV Est high-speeed line (I worked at the SNCF at this time, don't try to learn me anything about that). The 2007 absolute speed record has been attributed to the TGV POS, not to a "prototype". --FlyAkwa (talk) 14:08, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- I appreciate you creating the page, but that does not give you the right to decide how it develops. I wrote on the talk page a long time ago asking for comment on adding experimental trains, and someone else suggested the addition of locomotive-hauled way before that. No one ever commented, so I went ahead with both. The TGV POS used for the world record had three powered trailer cars in between the locomotives, an experimental design never used in regular traffic. It wasn't just tuned, it was an entirely different train which happened to incorporate the TGV POS power cars. You can read the Project V150 article for more information. But that is a separate discussion. I have reverted your edit, but let us talk this over further on the talk page, and find the best possible way to relay the most accurate information possible. I think you have tried to revise the page [File:Eastern Asia HSR2011.svg], as the maximum speed of Tohoku Shinkansen had been raised. The smaller map shown on the page was revised, but the larger map linked from the page has not been revised yet. Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to High-speed rail, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. There's no consensus for removing all of that. Even the revised article in Railway Gazette says that China has the fastest high-speed trains in the world so you can't remove that. History of LGVs
I found out that the history section in all LGV lines are severly lack of information. E.g. In LGV Sud-est, "Section Saint-Florentin-Sathonay to Montchanin opened on22nd September 1981. Section Combs-la-Ville to Saint-Florentin opened on 25th September 1983."
I checked google earth and map, the sections are not the full length. So when did the rest of the route opened? Similar problems has been observed in other LGV pages. This is not rigorous enough. Can you fix the problem?--Owennson (talk) 16:03, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Upgraded high-speed line and conventional line
I wonder if upgraded high speed rail lines (like the railways in Germany and China) and high speed train on conventional lines (like TGV Lyria) count as high speed rail?--Owennson (talk) 11:19, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

- Hi Owennson. Thanks for your work on the High-Speed lines page. I put a comment/question in the talk page, about the opening dates : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_high-speed_rail_lines . What do you think about it ? I think we must only use the year, rather than the full date. Or, at least, the ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD).
- About conventional rail, only 200 km/h lines (as drawn in the high-speed lines map) can be considered as "upgraded high-speed lines", such as the Tours-Bordeaux classic line in France.

Re: Max speed on High-Speed Lines in China
As I know, after the 7-23 accident, the speed of all trains in china has been lowered, 350-->300, 250-->200, 200-->160. Chinese Wikipedia has some Chinese editors that always said that it had been raised to 310, some even claim raised to 320. Usually I don't really care since train speed always fluctuates, but I would take 310 if you ask me.
I cannot find some better English source though. I can only find a strangely located Pakistani website, which is also quite confusing. Thanks!--Owennson (talk) 02:50, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Without any reliable source (the Paskistani page is not sufficient), we will keep the "300 Km/h" limit for China, even if there is a (strange) tolerance with speed excess up to 310 km/h (in France, the automatic TVM320 will do an emergency brake if the TGV exceed the maximum speed). --FlyAkwa (talk) 10:30, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks for the heads up on the Foonly page. I haven't looked at it much yet, but it seems to be an improvement.
- Keep in mind there's a difference between "Foonly, Inc" the company, and "Foonly" the computers. E.g. before Foonly, Inc there was the Superfoonly project at Stanford which produced a design for a computer :but which was never built due to lack of funding.
