Hi! This is my talk page, feel free to drop me a message. To experienced editors: feel free to stalk my talk page and reply to any threads here.To admins: I prefer that my talk page remain unprotected, even if it's being vandalized. Such edits do not particularly bother me and I prefer to remain accessible to anyone who would like to reach me. However, if the volume of vandalism is so high that no other solution would stop disruption, I don't mind if my talk page is semi-protected for a day or two. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence.
Question from AJRossetto9953 (00:20, 27 November 2024)
Hi there! Do you know why primary sources are not allowed on here? its always confused me, as i always thought primary sources were better then secondary. Thank you! --AJRossetto9953 (talk) 00:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @AJRossetto9953 happy to explain. Primary sources aren't disallowed, but they only provide an in-the-moment perspective. Wikipedia endeavors not to do analysis of things ourselves, as that is original research, but simply listing facts without analysis isn't very useful to our readers. So it's best to have secondary sources we can draw on for analysis, instead of citing primary sources.
- This is different from, say, school projects, which would often want you to do your own analysis of sources to draw your own conclusions! It's an important skill to have; it's just not what we do here. Hope that clears things up :) Elli (talk | contribs) 15:44, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
large block
Not really a concern but you realize blocking 2601:601/32 is a giant swath of comcast customers right? 2601:601:701:21CD:4845:D63B:322B:75AE (talk) 23:46, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. It's just from a few pages, though, and there isn't really an easier/less-restrictive way to prevent this disruption. Elli (talk | contribs) 23:50, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from 21JacjE (16:06, 30 November 2024)
Hi my name is Jack Earp and I am having a problem with writing in general --21JacjE (talk) 16:06, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- @21JacjE hi! Can you elaborate on the problem you're having? Elli (talk | contribs) 00:27, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from AJRossetto9953 (20:47, 30 November 2024)
Do you have any advice for creating a page on a living person? I want to make a page on Gianni Matragrano(video game voice actor), but I have literally no experience with doing this. If you could provide some detail, I would be very grateful. --AJRossetto9953 (talk) 20:47, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
- @AJRossetto9953 hi and sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I would suggest making sure you have multiple reliable sources with significant biographical coverage of Matragrano. As for living people, our biographies of living persons policy is an important read; the tl;dr is that it is especially important to make sure material you include in the article is neutral and well-sourced. Please let me know if you have more specific questions. Elli (talk | contribs) 00:29, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
December music
story · music · places |

November was rich in sadness and happiness for me, expressed in music. Today is the last day for the election of arbitrators. Regarding my question to candidates like you, I found one so far who looked into the matter and didn't stay at the surface, Simonm223. There are two composers on the Main page today, Siegfried Thiele and Aaron Copland. I find the response of my friend Jerome Kohl to a question on Copland's article talk promising. What do you think? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:47, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Today's story comes from a DYK about a concert that fascinated me, and you can listen! For my taste, the hook has too little music - I miss the unusual scoring and a specific dedication - but it comes instead with a name good for viewcount. I'd still like to know what you think about the Copland posts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:56, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
On the Main page today Jean Sibelius on his birthday. Listening to Beethoven's Fifth from the opening of Notre-Dame de Paris. We sang in choirs today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
Listen today to the (new) Perplexities after Escher. - Congratulations to being elected! Could you look at Samuel Barber and tell me if you miss something in his infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:33, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. - I can report happily that the Barber situation was solved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:42, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.

Unfortunately, you're going to get that from time to time. It is the IP address range used by mobile customers of Jio. The couple of people (2 in the past year) saying "It wasn't me!" is going to be far outweighed by the number of random edits like Special:Diff/1106760683 and Special:Diff/1105621375 and Special:Diff/1074495251 abd Special:Diff/1070284648 that are going to start right back up again when the block expires in 2025. It is an unfortunate situation, but the numbers are orders of magnitude against us. We do not have the resources to combat even the small percentage of people who do not understand the basic fact that they are editing Wikipedia with their mobile 'phones, and apparently are regarding the "talk" and "edit" hyperlinks on articles as some kind of chat or search app. Uncle G (talk) 08:04, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 Arbitration Committee
Congratulations on your success in the elections and welcome to the 2025 Arbitration Committee. This is the first part of your induction onto the Arbitration Committee.
Please use the EmailUser function to indicate the email address you'd like to use for ArbCom and functionary business.
Before you can be subscribed to any mailing lists or assigned CheckUser or Oversight permissions, you must sign the Wikimedia Foundation's confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information (L37) and the VRT users confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information (L45). Please confirm that your username is listed on the Access to nonpublic personal data policy/Noticeboard. If isn't, and you haven't signed the agreements, please do this promptly and let me know when you have signed them. Instructions for signing can be found here. Again, you must sign both agreements listed in the instructions. If you have signed but your username is not listed on the noticeboard, please let me know.
Over the coming days, you will receive a small number of emails as part of the induction process. Please carefully read them. If they are registration emails, please follow any instructions in them to finalise registration. You can contact me or any other arbitrator directly if you have difficulty with the induction process.
Thank you for volunteering to serve on the committee. We very much look forward to introducing ourselves to you on the mailing list and to working with you this term.

OCA feature request
Since I don’t want to start a fourth level of forking, I would like to ask you to add a feature to your OneClickArchiver script that asks for confirmation before using it on mobile, or at least adds that as an option. JJPMaster (she/they) 20:51, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JJPMaster sure. Maybe an option in general? Not sure if trying to detect mobile really makes sense, but could definitely add a setting to always ask for confirmation first. Elli (talk | contribs) 16:28, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yep, that sounds good. JJPMaster (she/they) 16:31, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from Benmoulton on History of Southwest Airlines (16:24, 16 December 2024)
Hello! Would the use of the term immediately in "Muse immediately changed the name of the airline to Southwest Airlines, moved its headquarters to Dallas, and raised $1.25 million (of which $750,000 was from Wesley West) to replenish cash reserves depleted by Southwest's legal battles." be considered a breach of tone? It feels to me like a subjective use of immediately...
Thanks! --Benmoulton (talk) 16:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Benmoulton good question. It's not the best wording, it'd be better to be more specific if the source has more details (e.g. "within the first X days"). Elli (talk | contribs) 16:27, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from ROCKS2LIT (09:12, 18 December 2024)
Hello how can I make a Wikipedia artist page? --ROCKS2LIT (talk) 09:12, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- @ROCKS2LIT hi! Help:Your first article has some general advice. However, if you want to make a page about yourself, I would strongly discourage this: writing about subjects where you have a conflict of interest is difficult, as it is almost impossible to write with a truly neutral point of view on such subjects. Elli(e), it has been a year. Thank you for taking 1964 Illinois House of Representatives election through the FA process (a fabulous article on a crazy election). Thank you for reviewing 1934 German head of state referendum, and thank you for running the gauntlet (twice!). I cannot wait to work alongside you on ArbCom, and I know you will be a fantastic arb.
