Welcome!

Hello, Cbratbyrudd, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay.
I noticed you've made one or more edits to women's biographies. Should you be interested in helping to redress the balance of articles about women, you might wish to consider joining our Women in Red project. Less than 18% of biographies here are about women - and you could help us increase this!
Here are some pages you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Feel free to make test edits in the sandbox. Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) This automatically inserts your name and the date. If you get stuck, please see our help pages. If you can't find what you are looking for there, feel free to ask at the Teahouse or at the Women in Red project's Talk Page. Alternatively, contact me on my talk page, or place {{Help me}} on this page and someone will drop by to help you. Again, welcome! Nick Moyes (talk) 09:00, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Tressie McMillan Cottom has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Copy of Draft:Tressie McMilla Cottom that hs been declined due to lack of independent references to establish notabiltiy. It is an abuse of the draft system to ignore it and just copy into mainspace when the article is declined. You are free to continue editing the draft to get it into an acceptable state.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 11:02, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, just letting you know I removed a couple of the categories you added to the Katharina Paulus article because they are not categories that go in mainspace articles. I'm referring to the ones about importance level, and needing an infobox. They are maintenance categories, and I left an edit summary saying I would move the infobox one to the talk page, but when I looked at talk page, I'm not sure how to go about doing that. It's not added directly like category in article. It looks like it needs the wikiproject women template, and can be added to the template but I'm really not sure. I shouldn't have said I would move it before actually checking first, but I figured it would be added the same, so I'm sorry I can't fix the problem, but leaving a maintenance category in the article is not the solution. Hi Cbratbyrudd. Thanks for your work on Hanne Nielsen -- I've merged it into Havarti (somewhat hastily -- thought I was going from the back of the queue), as it doesn't look like there's a significant amount of RS biographical info available on her (da:Hanne Nielsen is also brief). If there is only going to be a max of a para or so, I believe that she should continue to be redirected and covered at Havarti. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 21:47, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Nia Wilson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Murder of Nia Wilson. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Nia Wilson. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Ebony Flowers

Please stop reverting this article to add her in parent categories. She is ALREADY IN THESE CATEGORIES. The category Category:African-American women writers is a SUBSET of parent categories Category:Writers, Category:Women writers, and Category:American writers. The same way Category:1955 births is a subset of Category:1950s births, Category:20th-century births and Category:Births. Do you see what I am saying? There is a reason we create specific categories. • If you have a problem with how Wikipedia categorizes then that is truly your issue. Do not edit against policy to make a point. You are not accomplishing anything with your protest categorization and you are certainly not improving Wikipedia. Spend your time doing something constructive like creating new biographies and adding sources to those at risk of being deleted. You're going to get yourself banned very quickly. МандичкаYO 😜 22:48, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Мандичка: – Please note that Category:African-American women writers is declared a non-diffusing subcategory of Category:American writers, meaning that it includes writers that can also be found in the parent category.  --Lambiam 08:54, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Ebony Flowers, you may be blocked from editing. I have explained to you directly why this is not correct. Please learn about how WP:Categories work and stop your disruptive editing.

to Cbratbyrudd, Some ways people deal with edit disputes are: Article talk page, if that doesn't work there is always Dispute Resolution, there is also edit warring noticeboards. JC7V-constructive zone 22:55, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly suggest you drop the stick with the editor you are warring against right now and not edit war them. Use the talk page of the article in question to seek consensus, seek out other editors opinions who belong to WikiProject Women's writers to discuss your purpose changes. Don't personally attack the warring editor (even if you are right). WiR Monthly achievements

Hi there, Cbratbyrudd, and thanks for adding so many new biographies to our Monthly achievements listings. As you may have noticed, I've been through several of them, adding categories and Defaultsort. Defaultsort allows you to set a person's family name as the basis for category sorting, etc. You'll find it in the Wiki markup options at the bottom of pages in edit mode. Maybe you could also add a WiR tag such as {{WIR-00-2018}} to your article talk pages. This will ensure that any pages tagged for deletion will be displayed on the WiR main page. I've added it on Talk:Amanda Daflos. Keep up the good work. You are doing very well.--Ipigott (talk) 10:02, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I also just did some work on your Pat North Ommert article to try to help improve it. I'm having a tough time finding additional sources in Internet searches. I have access to newspapers.com and the newspapers archive sites through Wikipedia so I'll try searching there next. I think she may be notable just due to the Hall of Fame induction, though. Also, you should sign your comments at the end. Use four tildas to do so. You can do it manually, but there's actually a button underneath this editing window that will do it when you click it. Deletion discussion about Brittany Ashley

Hello, Cbratbyrudd,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Brittany Ashley should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brittany Ashley .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Hi JC7V-constructive zone Thanks for this information!

Notable poetry

The fact that a performance of a poem is available at Button Poetry does not in-and-of-itself make that poem notable. The inclusion of that in multiple bios (Imani Cezanne, Desireé Dallagiacomo, Javon Johnson (poet)) feels very promotional for Button Poetry. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:40, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi power~enwiki thanks for your message. I do not have any connection to Button Poetry other than being a MFA in Creative Writing and a self-proclaimed poetry nerd. Everything is cited. I am merely creating poetry articles for notable poets/poetry organizations whose work I have come across in my own studies. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Not A Cult requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Not A Cult shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Toddst1 (talk) 19:09, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Toddst1 thanks for your comment--not trying to edit war at all. The revert requested some more sourcing, I added the sourcing per the request. Please see the editing history. cbratbyrudd1 (cbratbyrudd) 19:09, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lacy M. Johnson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Scribner (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maxine McCormick until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. power~enwiki (π, ν) 23:37, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I note you use the singular they in Skyler Cooper. While some genderqueer persons prefer it, it seems a bit clunky in this article, and seems contrary to how the subject is written about and self identifies: most of this sources use "her", while Cooper notes he has used both "he" and "she" pronouns in the past, but now identifies as "he" and with masculine pronouns. Thus, unless there is compelling reason not to, per MOS:GENDERID masculine pronouns should be used as consistently as possible, avoiding the potential grammatical confusion of "they", "zhe", etc. What do you think? --Animalparty! (talk) 05:47, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi --Animalparty! thank you so much for this note! I was struggling while writing for this exact reason. My first idea was to maybe just avoid the pronoun and specifically use the name? It was unclear to me which pronoun Cooper uses and so I went with "they" due to the variant pronouns in the articles. I would appreciate any feedback. I didn't want to misgender so went for neutral. cbratbyrudd (talk) 05:47, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For expert advice and style guidance, you might solicit opinions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies. Unless there is more recent evidence to the contrary, I think "he/him" would be acceptable, with a simple in-text note explaining alternate or previous usages for clarity and context. One issue might involve deprecated pronouns in direct quotes: in this case a stylistic fix like Smith wrote that "[his] performance was superb" might be used if the original quote used "her". --Animalparty! (talk) 06:44, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just FYI, you can ping users simply by using the {{reply}} or {{ping}} template and the plain unformatted username, e.g. @Cbratbyrudd: or @Animalparty:. Cheers! --Animalparty! (talk) 06:44, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Juanita Tomayo Lott

Hi, I'm Rosguill. Cbratbyrudd, thanks for creating Juanita Tomayo Lott!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I've marked it as reviewed so that the page gets indexed by search engines, but I've also identified some things that could be improved about the article. In particular, the article's lead needs to be rewritten, and it needs more citations to secondary-sources mentioning Lott. You may also want to consider adding a section listing Lott's notable published works.

Thanks for helping improve wikipedia!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, I am working with Wikimedia’s Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

Ways to improve Sophia Hall

Hi, I'm SkyGazer 512. Cbratbyrudd, thanks for creating Sophia Hall!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. For a statement like "she ran for retention in 2016," particularly for a BLP, it's better to have a more reliable source than a wiki that can be edited by anyone. Also, it would be nice if the article could be placed in some categories. Besides that, it's looking really great!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Citations in lists of publications

Hi Cbratbyrudd, thanks for all the work you're doing. I came across your article Rebecca Nagle. One quick suggestion: in the list of publications, it might be better to use e.g. {{cite book}} directly rather than to list the work and add a reference at the end. It makes the links and detail that little bit more accessible and it has the handy side-effect of not making the list of references look so primary. I got the same advice about an article I wrote a while back and I think was an improvement. All the best, › Mortee talk 21:22, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: The Months of African Cinema Continues….

Greetings!

Thank you very much for signing up to participate in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved already! We have been able to get over 200 articles created in over seven (7) languages! The figures soars to up to a thousand, if Wikidata entries are included. Furthermore, there have been about 5 in-person gatherings of Wikipedians in different countries across the world to create articles about African(a) cinema!

We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!

  • Article suggestions can be found here. You can also add to this list.
  • Some notable reliable sources for African cinema can be found here. Again, this list needs expansion.
  • Interested in Wikidata translation? check out the Occupation Drive, which is being led by Wiki Loves Women, in support of the contest and the project!
  • Please remember to list articles you have created or improved in the Article Achievements section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked.

Thank you once again for being part of this global event!

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Deletion discussion about Matias Viegener

Hello, Cbratbyrudd,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Matias Viegener should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Matias Viegener .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

I see you are adding many references to Muriel Leung, but the article needs to show independent, secondary coverage of the type that would demonstrate a pass of WP:AUTHOR or WP:GNG. WP:1E/WP:BIO1E the marriage itself is not notable, the notable event is the change in the column title and practices of the New York Times, and that isn't notable outside of the New York Times, so a low notability event.

This is done as a courtesy; I did not propose the deletion of the aforementioned article. Javert2113 (Siarad.|¤) 03:53, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Something to keep in mind when you create new articles

Thank you for your work on the Koko Da Doll article!

However, the way that you attempted to add it to the Women in Red and LGBT Studies WikiProjects (there is no "LGBT" project, all LGBT-related articles just go under LGBT Studies) did not successfully alert either project. Next time you create an article, you can add it to the LGBT and WiR projects by:

1: Clicking "Edit source" in the top right corner of the article's talk page

2: Placing the text {{WikiProject LGBT Studies}} or {{WikiProject Women in Red}} at the top of the talk page. Do not sign this by adding four tildes in a row. QuietCicada (talk) 00:11, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
